Towers RP!

Towers RP!

Do you enjoy writing letters? Do you enjoy RPing? If you answered yes to one or both of those questions, you might enjoy this new RP thread, created through snippets of individual perspectives, written documents, and letters!

Set in a fantasy world where, every year, a new group of chosen teenagers from one town are locked in individual towers, and have to rely on their wits to escape. This year, you are one of the chosen few, and have until the winter solstice to get out. The only communication you are permitted is letters exchanged with the other chosen ones.

Are you in or not? The clock is ticking!

Your character sheet should include:

Two more days until the RP officially begins! You have until the 15th to submit your characters. I'll hopefully be trying to post some backstory/lore on the 14th.

I am very sorry it took me so long to post this.  I had a hard time chosing a character, but I will go with this one.  I unfortunately will be unable to participate in the first week of this RP, but I will participate!  I will think of a good reason why my character was silent for the first week.

I have a few questions, if you wouldn't mind answering them, jinx.

Is there a reason why are teenagers locked in a tower to escape every year in this place?

How are they chosen to be locked in a tower?

How do their letters get sent to the other chosen ones?  I was thinking pigeons, if you don't know how the letters are sent.

I am excited for the start of this!

Name: Raphael

Age: 17

Pronouns: Male, he/him/his

Appearence: Black, wavy, jaggedly cut hair. A shock of hair tends to
cover one of his eyes and he is constantly brushing it away.  Black
eyes.  Olive colored skin.  Tall and thin.  His hands are thin and long
fingered.  Wears black pants and a dark blue short tunic.  A dark sweater with a small stain on the right sleeve is worn over his shirt.  When the weather gets cold he wears a thick cloak.  His shoes are made of
canvas.  Always carrys a small notebook, pencil, and large pocket
knife.

Personality: Brooding and silent.  Stares intensely at people when
meeting them for the first time or when they are talking to him.  Can
seem aloof when you first meet him but he will gradually warm to you.
Can get easily annoyed but it doesn’t last long.  He is deliberate and thinks things through.  A critical thinker,  and he isn't afraid of saying something that may be something other people would avoid for fear of hurting someone's feelings.

Likes: stormy weather, darkness, stars, candle light, dark colors, being alone, making things/doing something with his hands, writing (his handwriting is narrow, spidery, steady, with a deliberateness).

Dislikes: incessant vibrations, people not making eye contact when he is signing to them, being disrupted when making something, a light being turned on when he wants darkness, people always being around him and not letting him be alone, when people rush right into something without consideration.

Other: He is deaf and only speaks sign language.  He talks to people
by writing down what he wants to say in his notebook and having them
write down what they want to say.  He can say a few words, but they sound strange and grating to hearing peoples' ears.  He is willing to teach someone sign language, though he can become annoyed if they do not learn quickly.

Great questions! They should be answered in the lore, but if there's anything I can clarify further, please let me know!

Okay, I finally got around to writing the lore, haha! Here it is :)
Once, there was a town in the middle of a dark, treacherous forest. From the outside, all appeared to be normal within the town--except for one thing.
The townsfolk lived simple, happy lives. But they were living on land stolen from the forest spirits all around them--some kind, and some not.
The spirits realized that nobody in the town knew that their ancestors had taken the land upon which the town lay from its rightful owners, and devised a plan. Every midsummer, the spirits would come out of the forest, into the town. And every midsummer, the spirits would choose a few teens from the town, take them to towers in a part of the forest the spirits kept hidden away from outsiders, and lock them in. The teens had until the winter solstice to escape.
The spirits took a sick kind of pleasure from the pain the townsfolk experienced every year. They believed it to just be getting even with the people for stealing their land. The people living in the town seemed to disagree, however. And so, the spirits agreed to let the teens communicate with each other via well-trained birds, in hopes of pacifying the townsfolk.
The spirits didn’t particularly want to have to kill the teens who didn’t escape, you see. And so they vowed to take mercy on them and turn those who did not make it back to the town into spirits as well. They didn’t tell the townsfolk this, though.
And so now, every midsummer, a celebration is thrown in hopes of appeasing the forest spirits. And through a mysterious ritual, a handful of teens between 12 and 18 are chosen. They have a day to stockpile the items they will need, and to say their goodbyes.
And every year, at sundown on the day after the summer solstice, they are all taken away, and it is all the town can do to hope at least some of them will come home alive.

Quick question- jinx, are you going to describe the rooms or give clues or something, or do we make up a way to get out?

I can give clues if you want, but I was really thinking you could choose how your character will get out, or if they do at all. I imagine this timeline will move pretty fast, considering it's supposed to take place over the course of half a year, and also the characters mostly really exist independently of each other.

Hello, friends~

I'm Fuyuaki, and it's quite nice to meet you even under these circumstances.  I have made copies of this, and I've asked my bird (who I've named Tori- I know, very original-) to deliver one to each of you.

Have you found anything that might aid in our escape?  My cell is made of stone, and there are spiderwebs in every corner.  (I'm quietly trying not to panic.)  There's no door that I can see, though there is a window.  We're impossibly high up.

There are a few random things in my room, but none seem to be at all important.  I believe I am being spied on at times, too- three times now I've turned around and caught what I think is a spirit just before it disappears.

Good luck to all of you.  I believe in us.

Love, Ame Fuyuaki

Greetings. My name is Shining Star, call me Star.

I am dismayed at the current turn of events, but it's good to meet you too, Ame. Who else is here?

What's in your room? I have a straw bed, a lantern, matches, and a foot-long coil of rope. I should have brought a change of clothes, but there just wasn't time! For one who loves elegance, this is a most embarrassing situation.

I have explored the stairs. There is some food, of course, since it wouldn't do for us to starve. I think of books I've read and wish I'd grown my hair. I could braid it to climb down.

Do you know if, once one of us escapes, we're allowed to aid the others? I doubt it, but one could hope.

I too have made copies and sent them out with my birds. I hope at least some of us will return home. Either way, we're forever bound together by our shared experiances.

Goodbye, though I'll write soon.

Hello everyone.

My name is Ryn Black, and it is lovely to get to meet you all. I only wish we could have done so in circumstances other than this.

My tower appears to be made of rough stone, and I wonder if it would be possible to climb down the outer walls. I do not believe I have the arm strength to do so myself, but it may be possible for someone smaller and stronger than me.

What did you all choose to bring with you? I brought extra ink and parchment, warmer clothes, a knife, candles, and matches. I hope I will have enough supplies to keep myself alive, and to continue correspoinding with you all.

I believe there is a spirit--a mist spirit, possibly--surrounding my tower, as I cannot see the ground except when there is bright sunlight shining on the tower.

I have named my bird Rowan, and I trust they will be able to carry these messages to everyone. It is strange to think about the other people who occupied this tower, and the ones who must have died in here.

I hope we will be reunited in safety soon, and that we will all be together. Stay safe, everyone.

Hello.

Thus far I've had no luck escaping my tower.  I haven't really tried, either, but I'm trying to plan for it and have come up with nothing.  I brought a pocketknife.  There's next to nothing in my room- a candle, which is no use without a lighter; a thick notebook filled with the scrawlings of someone I've never heard of; and a calculator.

Ha.  Perhaps the spirits have a sense of humor.  I'm going to need that calculator.

Good luck,

Tsuki

Hello again my friends~

Nice to meet you, Star, Ryn, Tsuki.  I've brought along my notebook, which I keep close; an assortment of colored pencils; changes of clothes and matches.

Like Tsuki, my room has a candle.  It was lucky I brought along the matches, for also like Tsuki, none were provided.  There are a few pairs of clothing, most much too small for me and two twice my size.  There's scissors.  Not quite sure what I would be able to do with that.  They're not even the sharp kind.

Perhaps the spirit's don't have a secret way to escape.  Perhaps they give us random things and say, "let's see what they can do with this."

The spirit that has been watching me has left me alone lately.  I have not felt it's presence.

I can see the moon from my single window.  It gives me hope.

Do your best,

Ame Fuyuaki

Dear Tsuki,

I will wrap some of my matches in a strip of cloth and mail it to you with my bird. I hope they help light your candle.
