Chatterbox: Inkwell

This week in

This week in school we are learning about avoiding cliches in our writing and adding our own unique touch.  Although I may have steered off a little from the subject, I want everybuggy to critique my work I did on a 14-sentence paragraph I did for a 'happy place.'  My happy place is my bedroom.

When I enter my bedroom I can 'hear' my stuffed animals calling me, hoping I will play with them.  The little dogs and bears, the tigers and the seahorses look at me with unemotional eyes, and yet there is emotion.  I lie down on my bed with the springy mattress and warm, friendly, familiar blankets.  I rest my head on the cool, fluffy pillows and they seem to know I appreciate them.  When I look out the large window with the pale wooden frame and see the dogs in the backyard and smile.  Smile at Gypsum, the youngest, never tiring, and smile at Hunter, our boy, sleeping in an uncomfortable looking posistion.  At Amber, the oldest, cleaning Gem's ears as Gem grunts with pleasure, and Diamond whining in worry for everything but herself. As I turn away I brush past the old, wooden shelf with things unused cluttered on it that I'm still attatched to.  And look into my closet with clothes thrown on the floor.  All over the walls pictures hang.  Some pictures of animals, some of drawings or paintings I made.  Next to my bed is my alarm clock and old lamp with a lion and and an elephant glued to it that stand on top of two milk crates turned on their sides.  In the crates are ribbons I've won and the books I'm reading.  As I walk out with my hand on the switch I turn my head to look back.  My room's not much, but to me it's a sanctuary and a place to sleep, and I love it.

What do you think?

I like the part about the dogs. Without telling us what they looked like, we gain a much more useful picture in our heads than black and white, or brown with reddish splotches. Virtual high five.

Budge along to the front row, now, thread. And you may want to clarify the part where you can hear the stuffed animals calling to you. And the emotionless, with emotion part. I get it, because I have stuffed animals, but to someone else it might be confusing.
