A roleplay, because

Chatterbox: Inkwell

A roleplay, because

A roleplay, because I enjoy them greatly.

Anyways...

There are elementals. They all have power over their elements. All of the elementals have apprentices(or are looking for one) that they train to take over for them when they die.

Plot: Some elementals want to take control over all of the others, thus they are wrecking havoc everywhere.

Name: Yumilia

side: Good

Element:Water(The reason that I didn't list elements is that you can make your own.)

Apprentice: None, but is looking for one.

Appearance: She looks young, even though she has been alive for a long time. She has multiple forms, but her most commonly used one is a human with silvery hair, blue eyes, and a blue kimono bordered with purple.

((It's bad, but it is the first roleplay I have ever made...))

I am, rather guiltily, going to steal Chaos, my narrator from last year's NaNo, even though canonically she's a Principle rather than an Elemental.

Name: Chaos.

Side: Chaotic Neutral, as the name would suggest. She's out for herself and basically does whatever the heck she wants, and is motivated largely out of a desire to annoy Fate.

Element: Well, chaos. Essentially she disrupts order and does her best to break the laws of nature whenever possible.

Appearance: When she isn't invisible, she's short, skin-and-bones, very pale with wild black hair. She has a long, thin, pointy nose, spindly fingers, black eyes. She wears a purple scarf tied around her lower face, and a purple trench coat over jeans and a tank top. Her hair crackles with purple energy whenever she's doing something particularly major.

Apprentice: Spritely, a rather tall, gangly youth with floppy orange hair and big ears. Chaos picked him up in Chicago during her year-long exile. Yes, they are from the same NaNo as Bartholomew and Mathias James Winters/Dark Eyes on the now dead superhero roleplay. Shut up. I loved my characters that year.

Personality: She's insane. Off her rocker. Dotty as you please. Utterly, completely mad, and she has seven voices living in her head (they're really formless entities she picked up in the Storms, but they manifest themselves as voices) who can occasionally make themselves heard audibly to other people. Random things happen around her when she's physically in the mortal realms, because she leaks chaos constantly.

Because I'll probably end up using him anyway, there's also Fate.

Side: Hmm, Lawful Neutral probably, though *possibly* leaning towards Lawful Evil when it comes to Chaos. Anyway, he likes power and wants more.

Element: Predestination, and to a lesser extent order. He can make things happen, but only in the future. He can't actually effect the present at all, unless he effected it in the past.

Appearance: He's the tall, square-jawed type, with auburn curly hair and bright blue eyes. He dresses entirely in navy blue and in a somewhat outdated (circa 1900's), overly formal fashion. and carries a giant pearl around with him wherever he goes.

Apprentice: None, as he hasn't found anyone he finds suitable yet.

Personality: Prone to getting very, very angry and deadly when he doesn't get his way (which happens quite a lot around Chaos), but other than that he's fair and just though rather stern. He's kind of OCD and a tad bit manic-depressive at times. He's an extremely charismatic speaker and somewhat overwhelming when he wants to be.

It was a cold, dark morning. A soft breeze ruffled the trees. From behind one of the trees came a human. Well, at least she looked like a human. She wasn't really a human. Not even close. She was muttering to herself.

"An apprentice, that's what I need. Badly. Why me?! I'm water, for goodness sake, I need an apprentice. With the state of things, I need someone who can control water if I die. Without water elementals...hm?"

The "human" glanced around. She could have sworn that she had just heard something. A cold breeze rushed past her. The "human" was not cold, as she was so used to cold. Cold water...Most water came that way. Cold. She was the elemental of water, Yumilia.

Yumilia decided the sound was just a breeze.

But she was wrong.

So very, very wrong.

Ohmas (like the Egyptian) Age:14 element: earth Side:neautral(but will become evil)

Ohmas is apprenticed to one of the most sinister men who have ever lived. He was found orphaned as an infant, and has served his master more as a slave than an appretnice in exchange for information about his past. Ohmas is oblivious to his own strength and isn't very bright, so he hasn't yet figured out that his master plans to use him as a crucial pawn in his plot to help take over the world.

Post more later, my sister is nagging me to get off.

"Awful dark, innit?"

"Shut up, Owin."

"Well it is!"

"We're inside her head, Owin, it's always dark."

"I meant /outside/."

"Shut up, Owin."

"But-"

"Quiet," Chaos hissed. "All of you."

"But-"

"That means you to, Owin."

The Voices fell silent for the moment. Chaos, taking advantage of the unusual silence, leaned forward and examined the grimy wall in front of her. She could barely make out the edge of the bricks in the faint light.

"Pity Ernie isn't here," she muttered darkly. "He still has that flamethrower, yes?"

"Like he'd lend it to you. He thinks you're going to bring about the Apocalypse, remember?"

"I nearly did," Chaos replied with a grin. "Remember?" She sighed. "Pity Fate had to go meddling. Or meddleding, as the case may be." Another sigh, and she added for emphasis, "Git."

"Indeed."

"Works much too hard, too."

"Workaholic."

"Sad, very sad."

"Uptight, stressed. Surprised he isn't going grey."

"They don't /go/ grey, you idiot, they're immortal-"

"They can die!"

"Only under special circumstances."

Chaos sighed again. "Fifty-six seconds. Pitiful. I'll dump you lot in the Storms to dissolve if you don't stay quiet for five minutes at least."

There was a long silence.

"You wouldn't."

"I would," Chaos replied grimly. "Don't think I won't."

She returned her attention to the wall as the Voices pondered this. Of course she was bluffing; despite all her constant pleas for silence her mind seemed... Well, lonely, without the Voices pursuing their endless arguments. Anyway, she knew exactly what being absorbed by the Storms felt like and she wouldn't subject anyone to that. Not like /some/ people...

Chaos scowled at the thought. Git.

Another few seconds and she found the three narrow grooves that marked the exit she was searching for. She flicked her long fingers against the lines and they glowed briefly purple. The portal opened with a slightly unpleasant wringing sensation and then she was through into the mortal realms.

She appeared accompanied by the slightly acrid smell of melting atoms and grinned. Piles of scrap metal and slightly soggy cardboard towered over her head. A shaggy white-and-orange dog with ridiculous ears and a lopsided grin. He stood up and shambled over towards her, growing upwards about halfway there into a tall youth with overlong orange hair and a mass of freckles.

"Spritely," Chaos said with a slight nod in his direction.

"Boss," Spritely replied with a grin. "Welcome to Chicago, again. What'll it be this time? Giant squid in the lake? Snow indoors? Bolts from the blue? You could turn the lake purple again, that was fun. Or another flood."

"That wasn't me," Chaos said sternly. "That was the sky mourning after the sun died of meningitis." She glanced up at the sky. "Replaced with another Average, I see."

"Pity," one of the Voices cut in. "I was hoping they'd get a Red Giant."

"Can't have everything."

"Shut up, Owin."

"Quiet! Anyway, Spritely, we're not staying. Something's up in the west coast. Probably Fate madeing another move for power."

Spritely pulled a face. "What, again? That's the third time this year!"

Chaos merely rolled her eyes. "Come on, there's a storm brewing over the Rockies. We have time for a game of Hit Random People With Lighting In Interesting But Nonfatal Ways before we get to Washington."

"Right," Spritely said, perking up noticeably. "I'll get the board."

Spritely couldn't fly on his own, having been permanently banished to the mortal realm for several years now, so he had built a hover board out of scraps of metal and a few mechanical gadgets he'd stolen from NASA. It looked like a brick with a few needles shoved into one end, but flew like a dream.

Chaos grinned and leapt seven hundred feet into the air.

I'll join!

   Name: Trelina

Element: Air/ Darkness (air in the day, darkness at night)

Apprentice: is an apprentice herself, to her evil father. Is wondering whether her father's ways are right.

Side: Evil, but tilting towards good.

Appearance: long dark hair and pointy ears. Gets sharp teeth when angry. Wears a black robe and a necklace that contains much of her power.

Trelina concentrated. Her necklace glowed, and the air rushed into a tornado that surrounded her and lifted her into the air. "Yes. More!" her father urged. The tornado whipped about, faster and stronger than ever. It ripped up trees and shrubs, knocked over fences. The very castle where she lived seemed to sway. Slowly, the whirlwind ceased. "Excellent," Trelina's father whispered greedily. "Soon we will have control over this land." Trelina stepped forward. "Why, Father?" she questioned. "Why must we destroy living things in order to rule?" Her father narrowed his eyes. "Do not question me, daughter," he hissed. "Soon you will see the truth..."

Name: Ellainna

Element: Water

Is an apprentice looking for a mentor, but has had no luck so far *hint hint, there Dawnpaw*

Side: Good

Appearance: Has green-blue eyes that turn bright green during, and a while after, she uses her power and turn very blue when she's upset. Has golden-blond hair that hangs about to her waist and is rarely seen in anything but a braid. Looks about 14 or 15. Has light blue tunic-like top with green-blue leggings. Soft brown shoes.

Ellainna has been wandering for about 2 years, looking for a mentor. She has developed enough control over water to do simple things, but desprately needs to be taught more.

The water had been whispering a strange name lately. Yumilia. Was is the name of the next town she would stumble upon? The next inn she would find? A kindly stranger willing to give her food? Not that she needed any. She could live on the whispering water, the mist that rose from it in the grey light of morning, the soft waves that lapped at her feet when she stepped into a stream, waiting for the water to tell her where she was, what to do next. She had to follow water. She felt dry and shriveled without it. Too long away from it, and discomfort became pain, pain became agony, and the agony, she guessed, became death. She dipped her hand into the stream she had been following, waiting for it to disclose where she would go next. "Sit, sit." it whispered. She obediently sat. The stream carried her weight downstream, chatter, telling her all the secrets it had heard, all the latest gossip. Soon, she fell into an easy sleep, the water feeling like a soft, billowing cloud. When she awoke, she found herself sitting on a small sandbank. The water lapped at her resting spot, expectantly, almost like a little dog, happy to please it's master. Ellainnna looked around. She saw a glimmering fire near the edge of the bank. She tiptoed silently through the water, creeping slowly toward the fire. She saw a human with silvery hair and blue eyes. She looked friendly. The water bumped her leg, wanting to tell her something. "Yumilia." it said.  Was this Yumilia? The name the river had spoken for so long? She crept closer. Suddenly. the water decided to reveal her. It splashed as she stepped, not muffling her steps as it usually  did. She glared at it as the human looked around, startled.

"Who's there?" she said. "Who is that?"

"M- m-" Ellainnna licked her dry lips. She hadn't spoken in so long! "My name is Ellainna." she said, startling the woman on the bank again. "Are you Yumilia?"

"Where are you and how do you know my name?!" the stranger demanded. Ellainna tensed. What if the river had been wrong? What if this stranger was dangerous?!

Trelina crept away from the castle. She called the shadows to cloak her, and they obeyed. They always did. Trelina looked to see if anyone was near her hiding place. The coast was clear. She ran into the open, ducking behind a tree here, crawling through the shadows there. Oh, how she wished she could fly. But it was night, and she had a better cloak. She would not travel as fast, but she could go unseen. Slipping past the castle guards- my servants, she recalled- Trelina rushed into the forest. Here was her secret home. By night she would live here, though by day she would train her powers. Why? Trelina thought bitterly. All I do is practice my skills. What am I training for? I wonder if I'll ever know... She ran all the while, finally clambering into the branches of a giant tree. Here, she would watch for daybreak. When it finally came, Trelina started to fly back to the castle. Then, she finally made her decision. She turned and flew with the wind, her old life falling behind her.

Yumilia stared. A human? No, not an ordinary human. The water was cloaking her... And she knew her name!  Now, Yumilia was pretty sure the name 'Yumilia' was not very popular. Ellainna had a special air around her. And Yumilia had been learning about how to get an apprentice for years. This human had an ability with water. The water had brought her here. Yumilia spoke, choosing her words carefully.

"You wouldn't happen to have a talent with water, would you?"

((One thing, Ellainna isn't really a human. She's immortal (and is able to change into water-related (i.e. fish, sea-gull, etc.) animals) but was just "born" a few years ago. She was born by the water, it shaped and made her. That's why she's water-power and can't survive long without being by water. She's also able to make her appearance age and get younger as she wishes, but usually she stays 14 or 15. Oh, and Dawnpaw, sorry if I'm using your character, it's sort of impossible without doing that. . . Feel free to use mine! :P))

"Why?" Ellainna asked warily

"Just wondered. I need an apprentice, so. . ." Yumilia tried to sound casual.

"Yes, I do. Do you?"

"Yes."

"So you'll be my mentor?!" Ellainna knew there was so much more she could do if she had someone to teach her how to.

"Well . . . I guess." Yumilia could hardly believe her luck! "What is your name? What are you able to do with water?"

"My name is Ellainna." Ellainna stared hard at the river and lifted a small stream up into the air and shakily scrawled "Ellainna" in the air. She quivered with the effort, letting out a great sigh when she was done. She made five foot tall waves swamp the other bank and small raindrops fall on a nearby tree. Ellainna stepped back, pleased that she could to so much, and exhausted.

"My dear, you have a lot to learn." Yumilia mearly glanced at the water and wrote "When I am finished with you, you will think this writing trick the smallest thing. You could empty the river. You could pour down rain for five miles in every direction. You clearly need a mentor. I you prepared to work hard for this?"

Ellainna gasped. She took a deep breath. "Yes."

"Good." Yumilia let the water back down. "Then," she said with a smile, "I am happy to be your mentor."

((Dawnpaw, if you don't like anything Yumilia said or did, just change it!"

Trelina was exausted. Three days of flying, and still there was nothing but forest and river beneath her. Trelina wondered when it would end. It was almost night, and she would have to land- the wind would no longer do her bidding. The sun sank lower in the sky, and Trelina desperately spiralled downward. As she was nearing five yards from the ground, the sun disappeared. The wind rushed away, dropping Trelina from the air. She tumbled onto the ground, tearing her robe and skinning her hands and knees. Biting back tears, she crawled over to a tree. She collapsed onto her knees. Here, she would rest until daylight.

It was mid-day when Trelina awoke. There was something wrong. No birds were calling. The rivers were hardly audible. It was as if the forest had slowed to a halt. Then, she heard it. Footsteps. Too weak to run, she backed against the tree, hoping whatever it was wouldn't see her. But it was too late. The guards from the castle were a foot away from the tree before you could say 'Elemental' two times fast. "Now, what have we here?" one chuckled. "Our little runaway? Come on. Your father wants to see you." Trelina jerked away. "I don't want to see him! Leave me alone!" The gurds laughed more. Then they narrowed their eyes. "Look, kid, don't act smart. Your dad wants you to help with those nasty rebels, and he isn't going to take no for an answer. So come on!" Trelina's eyes flashed, and her teeth grew sharp and narrow. But she knew: Her father was going to get her home one way or another. And she really did enjoy attacking the rebel camps. Struggling to her feet, she hissed, "All right. I'll go."

Ooh, this looks fun! Love your charries, TNO!

Name: Ashes. Side: mischevious good. Element: mist. Appearance: a tall, willowy woman in her mid-thirties, long limbs, short blonde hair, and a pair of feathered wings too small to carry her in flight. Oh, and rather large clawed feet. Personality: irrepressibly cheerful. Named her apprentice Tears because he weeps rather a lot.

Name: Tears. Side: leaning towards evil, but I think Ashes can save him... Element: mist. Appearance: about seventeen, short and stocky, missing thumbs on both hands (got them lopped off in a knife fight.) Longish, shaggyish hair in that color only hair comes in and is impossible to describe. Wears a tattered half-cape that's not much more than a tangled mess of strings. Personality: Weeps a lot. He had a bad time of it on the streets of whatever town he came from. He's subject to wanton fits of madness in which he tries to break/kill/smash anything within reach. Often comes out of it realizing that he's killed someone he cared about. When Ashes found him, he was unwilling to become attatched to her, but Ashes is working on him.

"Those stupid marshlights are going to get us killed," Tears muttered, huddling farther down in the reeds. Beside him, Ashes cocked her head, listening. "No, the soldiers took a left at the rotting log. They won't find us, no worries." She grinned at Tears.

One of the marshlights floated by his ear. He swatted at it. "And where, pray tell, is this rotting log? Was I supposed to have noticed it?"

"Nah," Ashes said. "But we are going to have to work on your awareness. Those guards are after us because of you, after all."

Tears bristled at her easy grin. "Hey now, I'm not the one who decided it would be a good idea to palm the sargeant's gate key. That was YOU."

"But you WERE supposed to let me know if the guards by the door turned around... which you didn't," Ashes replied. She ruffled her stunted wings, leaned back, and closed her eyes. "But never mind. We have the key, and the guards won't find us in this swamp. We can always use the mists to hide us."

A shout split the night off to their left. Torches wavered in the thick air. A curse hissing between his teeth, Tears wrapped his mind around a nearby trail of mist and yanked it towards him hard. "Gently, gently," Ashes reminded him, pulling a swath of vapor around herself. "Fast-moving mists always look suspicious."

The shouting voices drew nearer, guards calling to each other in the dark.
