Start now:

It was dark when the child awoke.

There was simply nothing to be seen. Nothing to be felt. Only the cool, smooth nothingness that lay beneath them. They stood. Still nothing.

Gingerly, they stepped forward. No change.

Another step. Nothing but the same.

Ever-so-carefully, the child shifted all their weight to one foot, and pushed. The lack of friction allowed them to skate forward -- into the dark. Into the nothing. But now there was wind.

The child continued to skate on, into the dark. But soon there was light.

A warm, golden glow. A faint wisp that threatened to shatter at the faintest touch, at even a light breath. One that existed, but seemed to tickle the mind into asking if it really existed in the first place.

How was it so soft and fragile, after all? Where did it come from, and how did it get here? What would happen to it?

The child neared the floating light -- reached out in amazement. It wasn't just a trick of the mind, was it?

It reflected of the smooth cool floor perfectly.

What happens next?

The child almost touched the light, the whisps pulling further away, beckoning the child to follow. Gingerly placing their steps along the trail, the child followed.

The board was left behind and quickly forgotten as the light encapsulated the child's mind.

The trail became steeper and difficult for a child yet still they pushed on determined to catch the light.

Then, as soon as the light appeared, it vanished, leaving the child alone in the dark. Not entirely alone though, for a figure moved in the shadows.

What/who is the figure?
