Chill CB Rp

Chill CB Rp

So, with all that's been happening, I think we all need a break. An oaisis of sorts. So here's a simple RP with no real plot, just us, our AEs, and our CAPTCHAs hanging out in Chatterbox City. No drama. No angst. Just fluff.

Maybe we'll all have a picnic together. Or some AEs might go on dates. Maybe we go to the Beach. Who knows? Whatever you'd like. If you want to invite people into your CB house, go ahead. Anything that's appropriate is a-okay.

Fill out the form before you join, but then you can start whenever!!

\|"Do you have any hobbies or notable interests?"| Arum asks me. I pause to consider.\

\"Well, I'm always up for a good debate," I say. "I've been in several debates, and it's... really satisfying. You get to air your opinions and know that everyone's listening, plus you can actually demonstrate how your point of view is correct. Except when you lose the debate, of course," I add wryly. "I also have this fascination with learning about ancient Rome, especially the individual emperors. Um, what else... well, I guess you could say exploring is another of my hobbies. And I've actually done some archery too! I got into it a couple years ago. I guess we have that in common." I wink at her. "Have you ever done mounted archery? Stormi's crazy about it. I've never done it because I'm not so crazy about horses, but maybe I should give it a try. Do you like horses? Or do you have any other favorite animals?"\

Poinsettia

I follow pangolin's gaze as she glances at Arum and Kaspar. The two AEs seem to be having a great conversation, and suddenly I find myself suspecting what might be going on between them, but I don't say anything.

"So, what've you guys been up to lately?" pangolin asks.

"Working on a novel," I say.

"As usual..." Stormi puts in.

"As usual," I agree, laughing. "I finally finished it! I spent like months working on it, holed up in my room... Oh, and I've been getting new clothes for the summer. I needed new jeans and scarves, and shoes for some reason. I did have a pair of ankle boots, but they disappeared. I have no idea why, how, or wherefore. How about you guys?"

Friendo:

Barnacle challenges me to a race to the food Writing brought. I don't say anything; I just grin and take off for where it's set up. On the way I nearly run into Skree, who shouts rude things after me, but I don't care.

|"|Oh, debate! That's really cool,|" I say. "|I suppose that's one of my interests too, but I've never done any formal debate. I'm more used to, oh, arguing which type of music is better with Pangolin's other AEs. And Ancient Rome! I've always found ancient civilizations fascinating -- I've always wanted to visit some ruins or something. You're right -- we really do have a lot in common.|" I smile. "|Oh, I've never tried mounted archery, but it's always sounded really cool. Maybe we could try to learn it together sometime?|"

|Kaspar asks if I have a favorite animal. "|Hmm, I've always been partial to birds. All types of birds, really. I've always envied their freedom to just fly away....|" I drift off, lost in thought, and then snap back to the present, my face heating up. I force a laugh to cover up my embarrassment and wave a hand dismissively. "|Anyway, what about you? Do you have a favorite animal?|"

Pangolin

Poinsettia talks about how she recently finished her novel, and how she's been getting clothes for the summer.

"Oh, that's wonderful!" I say. "Congratulations on finishing your novel! And getting new clothes is always very fun."

She asks me what I've been up to, and I respond, "Oh, nothing particularly interesting. I've been working on numerous writing projects -- my novel, some stuff for the CB, a short story for my mom's birthday, and some school-related stuff. And I still have a few weeks left of school, so that means final projects and exams and all that fun stuff. You're homeschooled, correct?" I ask Poinsettia. "What's that like?"

Barnacle

Friendo takes off running, with me right behind him. We reach the food Writing brought at exactly the same time. I flick my hair out of my face and then turn to Friendo, grinning. "I think it's safe to say that that was a tie?"

\Arum suggests trying mounted archery together sometime, and I nod eagerly. "That'd be great!" I agree. She tells me next that she likes birds, and trails off - I can tell she's lost in thought. She looks different suddenly, her expression subtly changing, and I realize with a jolt that she's the most attractive person I've ever met - and one of the most interesting, in terms of conversations and ideas and the like. Suddenly I know I was wrong when I told Stormi the other day, in one of our arguments, that I couldn't imagine what having a crush was like.\

"|Anyway, what about you? Do you have a favorite animal?|" Arum asks.

\"I - um, what?" I ask, snapping back to reality, and then realize how awkward I must have sounded. Quickly I revert to my former casual tone, feeling thankful that I'm able to act calm even when I'm actually... not calm.  "Okay, I actually have several. I have several favorites in most categories, in fact, like favorite songs or favorite colors. I can't ever choose just one! Anyway, with animals, I kind of like foxes  - oh, and also eagles and falcons, because they're so proud and strong." I pause a moment, remembering the last falcon I saw, flying over the forest I was exploring - and then blink, because there's a falcon right in front of my line of vision, floating through the azure sky. It's as if my memory came to life. "Look!" I gasp. "There's one right now... I wonder where it's going." I feel a sudden wistful urge to go exploring as far and as long as the falcon can. "If you could travel anywhere," I ask Arum, "where would you go?"

Poinsettia

"You're homeschooled, right?" pangolin asks. "What's that like?"

"Well-" I pause, trying to think how best to give a good picture of it. "It's much calmer than ordinary school, that's for sure. No hectic social interaction - no homework deadlines - I can concentrate on what I'm trying to learn, and I get to advance at my own pace, which really helps me learn better. My mom teaches me most of the subjects, like history and chemistry, using textbooks we buy, textbooks she had when she was in school, and websites and videos online. She also tends to link what we're studying to the actual world - like my sister and I had a whole mini-course a few months ago on artificial intelligence, which was fascinating. That's one of my favorite parts of homeschooling. Math does get a little tricky at this stage, but my dad is very knowledgeable about it, and he's really good at explaining even the most complex parts of it, so he's been helping me a lot. So I'd say homeschooling's wonderful on the educational side. On the other hand, it does get a little boring having only one teacher and no classmates, because I'm pretty sociable and I like navigating social dynamics (I did go to an actual school for 1st and 2nd grade and I loved it!) And there are one or two subjects that I can't really take if I'm homeschooling, like drama, which I would definitely be taking if I were in a real school. My friend's school put on a Frozen musical and when I heard about it, I was immediately consumed by the longing to be in a Frozen musical as Elsa..." Suddenly I realize how long I've been talking. "Well, now you have the complete and utter full picture of what it's like to homeschool," I joke, reaching for another sandwich. "How about you? I think you go to an actual school - what's that like?"

IT SHOULD NOT HAVE TAKEN ME THIS LONG TO REPLY I’M SO SORRY!!

|Arum|

|"\Look! There's one right now...I wonder where it's going.\" Kaspar points out a falcon flying way over our heads, little more than a silhouette in the brilliant blue sky. It's beautiful, really. "\If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?\" he asks.

|"Oh gosh," I say, laughing slightly. "It's impossible to choose just one place. I mean — the world is so big, and there’s so much to see. I just...want to travel everywhere. I want to see everything — not just see, but truly experience. I want to explore it all, really." I smile and shake my head slightly. "Anyway...what about you?"

|I don't know why I'm saying all this. I've never even spoken this much about myself with Pangolin or any of their other AEs. But Kaspar is just so easy to talk to, and I feel like he would understand what I'm trying to say.|

Pangolin

Poinsettia talks about what homeschooling is like. It sounds really cool! She then asks, “How about you? I think you go to an actual school — what's that like?”

“Oh, jeez,” I say, laughing slightly. “I’m probably not the best person to describe what it’s like — I go to a tiny charter school, so there’s not a lot of students or resources. I think there’s about eighty kids in my grade, which is actually pretty small compared to a lot of other schools. And my school doesn’t do drama, or have a ton of extracurriculars, or do many events, so that’s kind of annoying. Also, I tend to move through the material much more quickly than other students, so I’m constantly bored, and I don’t really connect with the other kids.” I shrug. “Overall, though, it isn’t bad. It’s loud and often very chaotic, but that’s entertaining. And we’re a small school, so we get to go on field trips occasionally, which is always fun. Standardized tests are annoying and terrible and I hate them, but I don’t find them too difficult.” I take a bite of my fruit salad and ask, “So I know you like writing — do you have a favorite genre to write? And do you have a preference between poetry or prose?”

\Arum talks about how she wants to experience the world, not just see it. I understand right away. "I agree. It's like you can't truly understand someplace until you've really lived there, at least for a little. And it's true, there are so many places to go. The world is so much bigger than we realize, I think. As for me, I'd kind of like to go to Spain. My ancestors were from there, and... it just has such a vibrant culture, plus the architecture is amazing. The Alhambra Palace, for instance. It was built by the Arabs who ruled Spain, and it is - stunning. But I would be totally happy traveling around the world forever and seeing everything I could. I mean, if there were no climate change," I add. "It feels like climate change is just getting worse and worse and no one does anything about it! Or is that just me?"\

Poinsettia

"A favorite genre..." I consider that while I munch on one of the chocolate chip cookies that somehow found its way into the picnic basket. "Probably realistic fiction at this point. I mean, it could change, but that's what I'm writing most of right now. It's easier to create well-developed characters in realistic fiction, at least for me, because it's like the characters are the focus of the story, whereas in fantasy or adventure it's the plot that's most important. Plus, there are a lot of real-world experiences I've never had, but which I get to experience through writing, so I enjoy that. Also I'm just getting more ideas for realistic fiction right now... But I do really like fantasy too, because worldbuilding. And super-exciting plots where the rules of real life don't matter. It's like everything is so much more vivid in fantasy; a lot of my favorite characters and settings are from my fantasy novels. As for poetry and prose, I think it kind of depends on the circumstances. I usually like prose better, because it's freer; you don't have to worry about lines and structure and rhymes and all that stuff, and you can go off on tangents and explore and explain everything all you want to. Plus, you get to make use of full descriptions of settings or characters or the weather or whatever. But sometimes I just want to capture an emotion or a setting, and then poems are best. I think being on the CB has really helped me expand my poetical style; I used to do mostly rhyming poetry, but I've ventured into blank verse and it's super fun! I had no idea before I came on the CB how poetical blank verse could be (I hadn't read any very good blank verse before). You and the other CBers are really good at it," I add shyly. "Anyway, what about you? What genres do you like to write? And do you prefer poetry or prose?"

aah thanks for understanding about the lateness!! I'm also glad we can continue talking :)

|Arum|

|Kaspar talks about visiting Spain and seeing the architecture -- specifically, the Alhambra Palace. I vaguely recall it from a picture Mirage once showed me, and he's right; it's absolutely gorgeous. Then he talks about climate change.

|"Oh, it's not just you!" I exclaim. Climate change has always been something I'm very passionate about, and I'm glad that Kaspar is also involved in this issue. "I mean, of course there are some people and some organizations that are trying to make a difference, but overall, there's so much more that the government and corportations should be doing, but aren't. I do what I can; Pangolin, the rest of her AEs, and I are all vegetarian, in hopes of minimizing the impacts of animal agriculture, but I just wish I could be doing more. What are your thoughts?"|

Pangolin

I take another bite of the fruit salad and reply, "Oh, I definitely agree that when writing realistic fiction, it's much easier to create three-dimensional characters. I also really like writing realistic fiction, because the world's already there, but you can use interesting imagery or descriptions to change some mundane setting into something almost poetic -- and it's easier to add tiny details that make the story more realistic. But yeah, fantasy's really great for worldbuilding and unique characters, and I get what you said about fantasy being more vivid. I like writing contemporary/urban fantasy, because it's kind of a nice blend between realistic fiction and fantasy. And I've always liked writing historical fiction, but that requires a lot of research, so I rarely write it. I agree with a lot of what you said about poetry and prose; I feel like prose is definitely freer, but poetry is great for capturing a specific emotion or something. I've been writing a lot of poetry lately; I haven't had a lot of time to sit down and write, but sometimes poetry'll just pop into my head, or I can scribble some lines down onto my notebook or something, so it's just easier. The CB has definitely shaped my poetry style as well -- I would never have even tried to write poetry if not for the wonderful poems other CBers were posting. And thank you! I always love your poetry, too; like the poem you just posted on the Poetry Contest thread -- the imagery is on point and vivid, and you were able to convey such a strong emotion and idea with just a handful of lines." As I pick a blackberry out of the fruit salad and absent-mindedly begin to dissect it, I ask, "So, do you have any plans for the summer?"

Hey ~Amarillis~! Do you want to continue Shyla and Firefly's ship? I think it was your turn to respond. :) I'm not pressuring you or anything - I just know you really like this RP and that it's kind of dying, so this could help revive it. Plus, I think their ship is really cute :)

How did i not see this--

Okay, first. I'm really sorry. I actually kind of forgot that it was my turn and then i had basically assumed I was waiting for you to respond when in reality it was the opposite. I also sometimes get overwhelmed by Shyla because she's so energetic and she's basically the part of me that really only happens a little.

So on top of the fact that I didn't realize it was my turn, I also...well, kind of was tired. You know? But still, not an excuse. So seriously I'm so sorry.

ill post today or tmw just not rn :)
