Raptor. Power. Beauty.

Chatterbox: Inkwell

Raptor. Power. Beauty.

Raptor. Power. Beauty. Strength.

This is a collection of stories, I wrote. I also posted this in the confessions thread, but felt as if it was more writing then a post. Although it is my confession to the world. These are all nonfiction, no matter how "supernatural" it sounds.

True Wildness

I was riding the bus and that’s where I saw it.

A hawk.

Tall, proud, beautiful, with venomous elegance.

One might think this is a normal bird. But it surges with power. From head to tail, it shines with the light of a thousand suns. Only those who are willing will see this.

It is complete.

We think it is of lesser importance to us.

Us, humans are wrong.

It has something that us humans could never obtain.

True wildness.

Untame raw power. It has it.

We humans have gone so far from wilderness, that now we are tame, stuck in our minds. Paying only attention to our devices.

We may not realize it but we think that our species is the most important. Nothing else matters. Nothing should get in our way.

People might think I’m crazy, that I’m stupid and too concerned about my “birds”. People would call me insane if I told them I didn’t like my own species. But, how do you like humans, if all they do is fight, destroy and disagree? How do you like them when all they do is brag about their species, their race, their gender, or their general existence?

I have noticed that I am the only one who seems to see this hawk. If I point it out, yes, the other humans will see it.

But I don’t.

These birds are like my little secret.

Little windows into the light.

Windows to a world that I could have.

Little escapes from reality.

Little sources of power, beauty, intelligence.

You may not believe me, but I get all those attributes from the raptors.

From watching them, from observing them, from basking in their light.

If I observe them enough, I feel my human shape disappearing.

Replaced by one where I feel truly free.

You may think that this is just an obsession. But it is much more than that.

Have you ever read The Peregrine? It sums up my life entirely.

Do you know why I don’t point out the hawk to the other kids on this bus?

Because they don’t care.

These kids, all they care about is their friends and their life.

Oh, did you hear what happened at lunch today?

Did you see this one video?

Look what this person said on my group chat!

Ah, people who can’t tell the difference between an eagle and a falcon.

Ah, people who have no idea such a wondrous creature lies outside the window.

Ah, normal people who do normal things.

And I just sit there saying nothing, doing nothing, just staring awe-stark at the hawk beyond.
