Short stories are

Short stories are always a pain for me; what is first a short story soon turns into a novel. But I'm going to try to write a short story. Here goes:

Her blue and white converse hit the pavement with a satisfying thump. She heard that people that can jump really far could go to the Olympics. But she didn't get her hopes up. That's what her mother had told her. "Never get your hopes up dear, because one day, when you're milimetres close to your goal, it will get smashed to the ground and you will spend days and days moping around." Haley knew that her mother was talking about her husband. On the day of her wedding, Haley's almost-father (but biological one) had shown up with someone else, saying that this was his real one true love and he wanted to cancel the wedding. Well, Haley's mother was a real sour-puss so she never thought love would come her way. But when the handsome Billy met her, she turned into a soppy marshmallow. Haley's mother was really mean to almost everyone ever since, especially to potential suiters for her. So Haley didn't know what a dad felt like. But since she didn't, she didn't want one. And when Haley's mother went out with someone a couple of times, Haley knew to not get her hopes up.

Because when you live under Sophia Ashton Rupert's roof, getting hopes up, is just as bad as getting murdered.

There! My first short story! Thought of on spur of the moment in ten minutes. By the way, this was inspired (ish) by the book The Wedding Planner's Daughter. Oh, and if you want to try writing a short story, give yourself a limit, then jot down random things. What I think helps, is if there isn't that much (or any) dialogue. But this is my first short story, so I beg to differ. Tongue out *Alexa says Hi*
