Shared world stories.

Shared world stories.

Shared world stories.

In a sudden attack of brilliance (if I do say so myself) I had an idea: let's write shared world stories. We work together on this thread to create a world. Then we each write a story set there and post it. What think you?

Any ideas for the world?

*squeal of delight* so glad I came back to cricket! steampunk *squeal of utter delight

anyway, to keep track of time on the universal moon clock, they could send out fake gear moons to travel really fast. the planet is small so it won't have a hard job. It is powered by goblins who manufacture gears and they snort steam.

Hello, everyone!  Personally, I think this is a wonderful idea and I like all the ideas presented so far.  Now, how close do we want this new world to be to our own?  Do we want it to be really similar, just not, or do we want it totally different?  Maybe we want it like Discworld (for those of you that know what I'm talking about), where the world is a disc (or flat) and you can fall off the edge of the world, yet the people are similar to us and have similar debates (such as, "How was the world created?  Why am I here?" etc.).  I already am interested in the idea of steampunk and the moon clocks.  This'll be quite amazing!  And, of course, we also want to name this world of ours and name our people. Though I think this should come later, after we get the general properties of the world down.  We know that there is a basic gravity force, of course, because we don't want the results of the wonderful steam technology floating out into space.  Shall we keep similar laws of physics in place in this world, you know Newton's laws and all?  I mean, it's our world and we can do whatever we want.  Because, as I mentioned before, we have these machines, we can't change things up too much, but it would be cool to change things up a bit and make them fun to work with, and not just like Earth.  I think I am going around in circles now, so I might as well stop, but before I do, I want to applaud ZNZ for the wonderful idea, and all other contributors for making this thread a fun place.  I look forward to continuing with world, if you don't mind my jumping in unexpectedly.  Anyway, I also want to make sure this fantastic thread dies not die.  And I apologize for the run-on sentences.

I like the idea of a flat planet, especially as I am mildly obsessed with Discworld. I think we should keep most of the basic laws of physics the same, but maybe add or delete a few? Note: Do we have magic here? If so, we can change some laws to allow for magic, and we should make the regular ones apply to magic. As in -- because of the law of conservation of mass, if you turn someone into a frog, it has to be a very big frog. I love that sort of thing.

Okay, you were saying you need names? I can think up fantasy names in no time if you tell me about the character or place. This sounds really cool. I plan on helping.
