New RP In

New RP

In the tradition of ZNZ (and probably many others), I'm starting a new RP thread, open to all!  Create a character for yourself and put yourself in the story!  I'm a fan of magic and medieval times, so that's where this story is set.  My only request is that we don't add modern things like cell phones or laser beams... or spaceships.  Right!  Off we go!

//Thresh//

"Dreg, I'm telling you, this is a bad idea!" Thresh hissed at his twin.  Dreg of course paid him no mind.

"You remember your line, right?" asked Dreg, his eyes glinting with anticipation.  That was the only visible difference between the two--their eyes.  Both had long blond hair kept perpetually back in a ponytail, tanned skin, crooked grins that tended to make the opposite sex giggle, and perfectly straight, white teeth to go with.  Dreg had blue eyes the color of the summer sky.  Thresh, on the other hand, had red.  Girls would fawn over Dreg until the cows came home, but one glance at Thresh and they would stare at him as if he were a new species of stinging insect.  He'd learned to live with it--by sixteen he really hadn't been given a choice--but he'd be a liar if he said it didn't bother him.  Dreg was the only one who looked at him like a normal person.

Which is why he usually went along with whatever his brother said, even if it was clearly a bad idea.  Like right now.

"Yeah, but really... you're seriously going to go through with--"

"Thresh, please!"  Dreg fixed him with a calm, blue stare.  "This is going to work.  I promise.  And we'll be able to feed the girls for a month!"

Thresh pictured their three little sisters back at their house--hut, really; pictured how skinny they were and how resigned even little Terra had become to their tragic state of poverty.  No five year-old deserved to starve to death.  That made up Thresh's mind.

"Okay," he said, squaring his shoulders, "let's do this.  Please make sure my head stays on my shoulders if something goes wrong."

Dreg grinned his crooked grin.  "Nothing will go wrong, brother," he promised.  "In three hours we will be feasting on roast pheasant!"

Tempest, that was awesome!

Ok, traditional RP, and I hereby declare my character is Noreen.  I hope that's ok with everyone, nobody else seems to have taken her.

//Noreen//

Noreen stalked over the cobblestones in fury.  Laid off!  I'll lay them off.  See how they like it living with a house of starving nincompoops.  She was so furious that she rammed right into a couple, not seeing anyone in her blind anger.

"Excuse me!"  said the lady in a highly miffed voice.  She was quite well to do, seeing as she was wearing a volumnous purple satin gown with yellow lace trimming.   Her elaborate headdress shook with the impact and a peacock feather nearly fell off.  Noreen recognized the outfit as being one her employers had sold a week ago.  Her former employers.

The stately gentlemen was so annoyed that he vented his frusteration in a cuff at Noreen's ear.  Noreen tried to duck, but his large, beefy hand hit her ear squarely.  Her ear stinging, she ran off without a backward look.

Noreen was close to tears.  This would never do.  She stopped in a side alley to catch her breath, but was interrupted by the blaring of horns.  With a great noise of drumming and tapping, a drummer came into the dark alley.

"Make way for Nobility!" he shouted.

Melayna is Dreg and Thresh's sister as well as Terra and Noreen. NO clue who Clo is.

I stood in my room of stone. Staring out the window, I felt like hurling myself to my doom. Still, I couldn't. Not if I was going to go through with this.

   Silently, I picked up the rock and levitated it to the window. I clunked it against the wall a few times before letting it drop. Then I screamed. I made it sound like it was coming from outside. That should do it, I thought. I sensed the people rushing out of the house. Was my father there? Yes. Good. He was distracted. His mistake, and my gain.

   I opened the door. It was locked, but that didn't matter. I jumped down to the first floor from the stone stairway, and rushed out with the crowd.

 "Where is she? Kaiza! Kaiza!" I heard my mother yell. Smiling, I slipped into the shadows. It would take them hours to figure out I wasn't there. I rounded the corner of the castle, ran past the guards, and out of the gardens. I was free.

    I was no longer Princess Kaiza. I was a magician. And I would change my name to Serzi.

Thanks, Amy!  I liked yours too!  (I'm glad we finally know who Noreen is now!)  And, Mango, interesting character choice... I liked that too!

Msinu was casually walking down the street when she saw something.  Well, not saw, but knew was there.  She had developed a sort of sense that told her when someone was hiding.

There.

Someone was standing near the edge of the buildings, near the castle.  Msinu's sharp eyes detected motion near the edge of a building.

Now, who would be hiding?  Someone GUILTY?

Thought Msinu with a smirk.  She silently crept up the street, past shops and houses.

The person who was hiding hadn't noticed her.  Not yet, anyways.  Well, now Msinu could see her.  It was a girl with clothes worthy of a princess.  Little did Msinu know how princess this person was.

Okay... since no one else has written...

//Thresh//

"You have to go find her!" Melayna told me, grabbing my shirt urgently.  "What if something bad has happened..."

I grabbed her arms firmly and made her look me in the eye.  A good tactic when I wanted somebody's full attention.  The red irises were always a good distraction.  "She's fine," I assured her.  "I'll find her.  Go take a bath.  And tell Dreg he can have the next one.  Noreen can wait if she's this late."  I gave Mel my best crooked smile and a peck on the cheek, and swept out of the house.

Outside, the market was just winding down as the sun was setting.  Merchants were packing up their stalls and vendors were hauling carts laden with goods out of the square.  By sheer bad luck, it seemed, I stepped outside just as a Noble was parading his way through the square.  Hearing the horns, I sank instinctively to one knee and bowed my head.  The punishment for Disrespect was uncommonly harsh, and after the tossing in the mud I'd had from the castle guards that afternoon, I didn't need anymore trouble.

Which was exactly what I was thinking when I saw Noreen skid to a stop in a side alley, panting for breath.

Yes, Clo is a sister of Thresh and Dreg, and I say traditional RP: Clo is mine and she's staying mine.

//Clo (Dreg & Thresh's 13 y. o. sister) here//

I sat down and began assembling false magic wands. I clicked the parts into place one by one. I had always been fascinated by gears, mechanics and such. There were a few things like that, but they all broke in a day or two. I grinned. By the time someone realized that their wand was a fake, though, they'd usually forgotten who they'd even bought it from. Choosing the right customers was key.

We worked in silence, anticipating what would happen next. Then a noise broke the silence as the door to the Fal Semag, Inc. workroom was shattered. I ran to the room's center, with everyone else. I tried to stay calm, as I pulled open a trapdoor. We've been drilled on this. We'll be fine.But then I knew we wouldn't. Somebody glared at the entire scene before I could scramble down into the secret rooms. Caught in the act. Trapped. Panic rose in my throat. What if we were taken prisoner, or killed? What if I had to run from the town? Could I get back to my sibling while being pursued? Or what if I didn't see them for months and they near starved without my help? I had to do something, fast.

//Clo once again//

I had to think fast. One moment I saw the figure, its face not visible. The next I threw some yellow fluid at his or her eyes, pointed at him or her a false magic wand, and scrambled through the trapdoor to lock it behind me.

I cried as I ran down the dank tunnel, I will admit. I had been holding back the tears for nearly a year now, since we'd become orphans. Now they flooded from my eyes, blurring the tunnels and urging on my miserableness. No one understands or accepts me. I thought. Dreg and Thresh and Noreen and little Terra don't. They say I'm not even their sister because of that one year at age three I was separated from them. Why must I still have that memory, of all those young memories I could have kept? I changed so much that year, but still I am myself? Why do my siblings shun me, why do they only keep me in the hut because I will bring in money if I am fed? Nobody cared that I sobbed. Nobody listened. They needed to run, and that was all. I wiped salty tears from my face and ran like the wind. The tunnels turned, split and zigzagged, until I was on a branch of it all on my own.

You're alone, Clo. I told myself. Again. And lost.

I snuck around the edge of the castle. Darn this dress, I thought bitterly as I nearly tripped over a clump of grass. Then I ran, my heart pounding. I had nearly reached the edge of the castle grounds, when-

 "Halt!" a voice said, I readied myself for a guard. I could take any one of them. My eyes started to turn a deep blue, as they always did before I did my magic. But then I took a closer look at the area the voice was coming from. Huh? I thought. It was a teenage-looking girl. Who are you? I said with my mind, hoping to scare her off. Magic is very frightening to those who aren't used to it. I had discovered that bonus long ago. The girl, however, was undaunted. "It doesn't matter who I am. You're coming with me."

Msinu looked at the girl quickly.  She looked familiar, somehow.  Then it struck her.

This is the princess!

Then a voice spoke in her mind.

Who are you?

Whoa.  This girl could mindspeak!  That was not something that the king had talked about to the civilians.  Oh, well.  The princess was in the street, looking very princess-ly.  A girl like her walking around here looking princess-ly was going to get kidnapped.

Not your problem, Msinu. It's not your business.

Thought Msinu.

No.  It is.

Well, princess.  You are going to explain what's going on to me.  Just not here.

She looked at the princess with undaunted purple eyes and answered her mindspoken question.

"It doesn't matter who I am. You're coming with me."

With that, Msinu gripped the princess'es hand and pulled her along the street towards her home, which wasn't very far away.  As she walked along the street, she saw Fal Semag Inc.  Something tugged at her insides.

Msinu thrust the princess into a alley and quickly did a shield spell.  Not to keep the princess in, but to keep muggers out.

She darted inside the building.

//Clo//

I knew I could prove to my siblings what I had been trying to prove for nine years. I only had to navigate the spiderweb of hidden tunnels and reach the hut. Right. Only. That didn't really apply. I remembered the way, a little. Getting through the tunnels to one's house is a skill taught to very young children. I was about to start towards the hut when a roar struck me and a creature lumbered down the tunnel. I stopped. Feathers were the color of vomit, with the same smell. Red eyes gleamed. Claws left jagged cuts in the dark earth. I had a ten-year-old flashback.

I'd been a bit over three years old. The whole family had been in the hut. Then the same monster. The Draug. Had to eat something. We kids ran. Saw Mother and Father disappear into magic fog. The Draug killed swiftly. I fled one way. Dreg, Thresh, Noreen, Melayna and Terra fled the other. I caught one more glimpse of the Draug as I left. I lived on the streets. Took help from any townsperson sympathetic of a four-year-old all alone, though many were too poor for giving charity. I decided revenge on the Draug. I met a girl and boy a little older than myself who became my best friends. But I never had forgotten the Draug.

It was as if I'd been waiting for the Draug, though of course I hadn't. I uttered something, that could have been anything from, "Meeple-sqirm" to, "Prepare for death". I grabbed a dagger I always kept around from my belt and held it up at the Draug. And then it attacked.

Thresh took the first chance he got and darted down the alleyway, grabbing Noreen by the arm and clamping a hand over her mouth before her scream could escape.

"Shhh!  Hush, it's me!" he hissed quietly, putting his face in front of hers, showing her his red eyes.  Her own eyes, a pretty hazel (hope you don't mind me inventing a characteristic of Noreen's, Amy... if you do, just disregard!) that changed colors depending on what she wore, widened in sudden fear like they always did when she looked at me, then dropped away.  He felt her relax and let her go.  "What have you gotten yourself into now?  Do you realize how late you are?"

Noreen glared at a spot above his right shoulder--she never was able to look him in the eyes for long.  "Well, excuse me, most honorable big brother!" she snapped, pushing him away.  "I've just had the worst day of my life and you come in and start yelling at me for it!  Those stupid Nobles just boxed me one and I got.... I got...."

Thresh, who noticed with a pang of guilt that Noreen's left ear was an angry red, raised his eyebrows.  "You got what?"

Okay, my charrie is called Sar. And ... how 'bout she works at Fal Semag?

//Sar//

We were all in the center of the room, as ordered. But when the figure came inside, all of us ran at once. We threw things at it, we brandished our fake wands. And we left the store as fast as we could, running in different directions.

This was the first time anything like this had ever happened at Fal Semag. We had heard about it happening to other people -- Do-It-Yourself Magyke had been closed down just last month, as had Sliog's Magykal Supplys. It had never happened to us, though.

But Fal had warned us about the possibility, and we had drilled for it -- and we all knew that it was a risk to work there.

I turned a corner into a narrow side street and leaned against the wall of a building, panting. That was a close call. I wondered if everyone else was all right. Clo especially. She was the youngest of all of us, a full year younger than I was. I knew she had family that could take care of her, but I also knew she didn't get on well with them. But I thought that, in all the confusion, I had seen her go into the trap door, so that was all right.

Probably.

I straightened up. It looked like the coast was clear. It was time to go to our other building -- the place where Fal had ordered us to go if anything like this ever happened.
