Um, there was an avalanche, we're in a mining city in the Merkan Empire... you know, it's really only half a page.  And I think there are only a few characters.  Mine's called Seoria Hague and she's an Enforcer for the Empire.  There's an injured girl, Chloe, her distraught mother, a medic.  We're kinda just making things up as we go.  Jump in anytime.

Good job guys! Sorry I have not been on in a while!!!! Here I go....

I remember being lifted into a moving tunnel. There were beeping lights and noises and a huge emergency button. If my body had been working right, I would have pushed it.

Although I was half dazed, I still had the sense that something was wrong with me. It was almost like I felt like I had been someone. Not just anyone, but someone with a purpose. Somewhere inside of me, I was still that someone. I was just trapped. I couldn't get out. Instead, I was just in "Auto-Mode". But un-like all the airplanes, The "Chloe" button was stuck. And it might never work again.

I heared a beeping in the background. It started to get louder and louder, until it finally shut-off. Unfortunetly, so did the Cat-Scan.

Dr. Lewis gathered with some other Docters. Their voices were very soft, but I managed to hear the words

"Concussion" and

"Really bad" then

"surgery."

Finally a red-haired nurse came around and propped me up. I must have blacked-out again because I can't remember what happened next.

I felt the same hand on me that I did the first time. Just the same, it reached around and touched something to the side of my neck. As my eyes opened they were surprised to see a familier face this time.

A lady with tears in her eyes and soft brunnet hair stroked my cheek.

SORRY I HAVE TO STOP.

I was on first shift to check on the girl. I was really freaked out. I hated being on first shift. That meant that I would be the first to know her condition, the first to know if she was okay. I opened the door and braced myself, but the girl appeared to be fine, but scared. I smiled. "You may not remember, but you were skiing on Streak Mountain when an avalanche was triggered by The Pride bandits. You needed surgery, but the most important thing is that you're okay, Chloe." The girl looked around the room. "Who's Chloe?" Oh no. I thought. I wrote Amnesia on my clipboard.

Ok! I'm back! Sorry about that!!!!

I heard her voice mummering comforting words. She was telling me she loved me. She knew I would be OK.

And then it all clicked. Like those moments in math where you realize you been putting down the answer to the question before the one your answering. Like when in Language Arts you realized that there was a test today and you hadn't studied. Like when you finally get all the fingerings right for band but then the teacher tell you their moving on to a new song.

This lady was my mother.

Before I could even reflect on my thought, though, a Doctor came around and shot something into me. Then it all went black.

I suppressed a sigh of impatience.  The search atop the Ridge had been fruitless.  Worse than fruitless, actually.  Private Oslo seemed to have developed something between hero's worship and an attraction for me.  He seemed to be suffering under the delusion that I had promised him dinner and since my commander had been in earshot when he told me to take the rest of the night off, the Private knew I had no plans.

"I'll come round your cabin in two hours then, Miss Hague!" he said with a grin and took off on his Snowsplitter.  I toyed with the idea of whipping out my crossbow and shooting him right there--I could snag myself another recruit--but Lujek stepped in front of me, smirking.

"Ah ah ah!" he said wagging a finger.  "No killing.  He's just a recruit, Orry, he hasn't figured out how much you hate him yet.  Who knows though?  Maybe you will have fun with him."

I gritted my teeth and glared at him.  "Enjoying this?  This is revenge for crashing your sports car isn't it?  You spiteful, little--"

"Careful, Enforcer," Lujek warned, though he was still grinning.  "I am your superior.  And when was the last time you went on a real date?"

"This is not a date," I said through my teeth.  "And if I kill him before the night is through, it will be entirely your fault."

Lujek laughed.  "Well, before I let you go to get spruced up, tell me what you found."

"A whole lot of nothing," I told him, shoving my fists into my furs.  Punching one's superior is generally a frowned upon action.  "The site where they laid the explosives had nothing but burn marks.  Vertical, so they probably drilled through the ice to set them.  No one down here heard a blast?"

Lujek shook his head.  "The closest one to the top of the peak was that girl that the medics whisked off.  I'm off to see if I can talk to her now.  Just think, you'll be getting a four-star meal at the lodge's restaurant while I'm stuck with hospital food."  He clapped me on the back and strode off.

"Yeah, and maybe you'll choke on it too," I said grumpily.  If I could keep this mood up through dinner, maybe Oslo would decide I'm a jerk and leave early.  Fat chance, girl, I thought to myself with a sigh.  I turned and started trudging through the snow to get to my cabin.

Well, not many people seem to be writing... I'll give this thread a boost up to the top and see if that helps.

I collapsed face-first onto my bed.  Dinner had been a nightmare.  Private Oslo had forced me to pull rank to keep him from walking me home and it had clearly offended him.  Not that I was worried about hurting the little turd's feelings, but it might make him resentful and hesitant when taking my orders.  I let out a sigh as the door opened and Lujek walked in.

"So?  How'd it go?"

"I think he hates me now."

Lujek bellowed with laughter and walked over to my bed.  "Well done, Hague," he said ruffling my hair and eliciting a growl from me.  "But as much as I know you'd like to lay here and cry about it, I have some news.  I talked to the injured girl today and it turns out she's got amnesia."

"Amnesia?"  I raised my head and looked at him skeptically.  "Really?"

"Yes.  Either that or she's doing a bang-up job of faking it.  Either way, I got nothing from her.  She's a dead end.  But one of the skiers remembered seeing a trio of black-clad snowboarders set off up the mountain earlier today with large bags.  The three of them are now conveniently missing."

That got my attention and I sat up.  "Did this skier remember what they looked like?"

"Just one," answered Lujek with a wide smile.  "A woman with ruby-red hair and a star tattoo beside her eye."

I gasped, feeling my heart start racing excitedly.  "Stella?  Really?"  I bolted out of bed and into the tiny closet, grabbing my furs from their hooks.  "Is she still here?" I asked Lujek through the door.  I missed as I tried to shove my leg into a pair of pants and fell with a resounding crash.

"Orry?  You okay?"  Lujek sounded like there was a smile on his face.

"Yes, of course," I snapped, picking a high-heel from my hair.  "I'm fine.  Answer the question."

"She's still on the mountain.  No one's gone up or come down since the avalanche."

I flung open the door, now fully dressed for subzero winter hiking.  "And we're going up there to find her, right?"

Lujek looked me in the eye and smiled.  "Oh yes.  We are."
