Hi. I'm not

Chatterbox: Inkwell

Hi. I'm not

Hi. I'm not necessarily new here; I was here for a few days almost three years ago, but I haven't been in Inkwell since. No, Crysanth is not my real name. It isn't what you would call a psuedonym, either. It's just what I prefer to be known as.

I'm not an overall very interesting person. I'm a highschooler, I have two dogs and a cat, brown hair, and I don't believe in much of anything except for proper grammar. I don't believe in flaming others to make yourself feel better.

Stuff I like includes fanfiction, manga of many varieties, cats, spaghetti, T-shirts, Shakespearean poetry (except for 'Taming of the Shrew'. That one should probably be banned.), Nordic Mythology, and drawing. Also the work of Orson Scott Card.

Stuff I dislike includes gum, pizza, planting potatoes, female characters of the Strong and Independent variety[1], sandalwood incense, flipflops, and homework. Nothing new there.

I enjoy writing, reading, editing of all types. And while, yes, I can dish out criticism with a smile, trust that I mean it in the nicest of ways.  Really. When I write, I write mostly fiction, but I try to avoid alternate dimensions and hidden worlds where I can. Especially when said hidden world is full of stuff like princesses and knights and evil, sorcerous kings.

Other than that, I'm pretty versatile! So... nice to meet you and I'm looking forward to writing with you all (again).

Absum!

Hi! I'm Olive. I just came here around late January-early February, when I got my subscription to Cricket. I have not read Taming of the Shrew but now I think I want to. (reminds me that I have a poetry recitation next week that I have not at all practiced) I have not heard of Orson Scott Card, but I just looked him up and realized that I have heard of the Ender's Game.

I live in Canada and have never been outside of NA (yes, disgraceful, I know, it's because of my brother) so if you hear me say in a post that it's late or early, and it's not for you, that may be because we are in different time zones. As of now, it's 10:07 PM which is really late for me considering I have school tomorrow. (it's 10:08 now) I had to do homework, and found some time to post here. That's all for now. Goodnight! :-P

Hey, Olive!

The Taming of the Shrew is a very, shall we say, touchy book. It centers around a dislikable woman of the independent variety. The title of the book refers to the 'Shrew' as the woman, thus implying that women should be polite and subservient; tame. This is just my take on the book; you're free to interpret it however you like.

Thanks to everybuggy who welcomed me (back)!

I love Taming of the Shrew, actually. True, some of the more, ahem, abusive scenes don't translate well at all, nor does the speech at the end about how women should do their husbands bidding. Nevertheless it's my favourite Shakespearean comedy (closely followed by Much Ado About Nothing, which earns bonus points for the double entendre in the title).

Regardless, I do disagree about the whole break-her-spirit thing that a lot of people view Petruchio's motivations as. I first read it ages ago and to me it came off as more of a head on clash between two extremely domineering personalities (their battle of wits and the double entendres that start flying within minutes of their meeting each other come readily to mind here). I also tend to interpret it as Petruchio almost... lampooning society (gender roles, specifically) throughout the play and that the "taming" nonsense is him trying to get Kate to play along without actually coming straight out and telling her (thus ruining the joke).

A very good adaption that seems to run reasonably in line with my own interpretation was done in, uh, 2005 I think, by the BBC for the Shakespeare Retold series. You might look it up some time, it was very good. And it had Rufus Sewell, that's a good enough reason to watch a movie right (he has such... uh... interesting eyes. And hair. And voice.)?

Oh, yeah, welcome (back) to the CB. *fails at being welcoming*

Hello! I'm Dawnpaw.  That's not my real name either, but I posted as it on a Cat Warriors RP and it stuck.  I love writing, too, but I like strong female characters, as I am a girl and like to write about characters of the same gender.  I love writing fiction, and do seem to like medieval times currently.  (I blame an awesome book that I'm reading, The Time Travelers.)  I also like fanfiction, and most is confined in the Pokemon and/or Cat Warriors variety.

Cats are my favorite animals! (probably because of Cat Warriors)

Ohhh!  I also would call myself a critic, but I try not to mention my criticism at other people's work.  However, sometimes I wish for a bit more constructive criticism.

Hi! I'm Rachel. I started posting on Chatterbox in either July or August 2010. I love writing in all genres, mainly because I haven't decided which one I like writing best, and which one I write the best, whether or not it's my favorite. My main problems in writing are inspiration- I never can think of topics to write about- and patience- I have hundreds of stories that I start but never finish. I get angry at myself because I don't like the ideas I come up with. At my school, I was part of the school newspaper last year, and once it starts up again this year, I hope to do the same thing. Welcome back, Crysanth!

First of all I would like to say that I like your psudedonym, it has a nice ring to it. And second I would like to welcome you to the world of Chatterbox! Oh and I guess I should introduce myself. My name is Hannah (distinguished from the rest of the Hannah Chatterboxers by the three ***).

And although I didn't like every aspect of the "Taming of the Shrew" it is now one of my favorite Shakespeare plays. The reason being that I saw a play of it and actually got to sit on the stage. Yes, it was a very interesting experience. But the acting was top notch.

(Oh, and I have to ask. What is the meaning of Absum? I am guessing it is "goodbye" in some language or another.)

So Long!

Hey, Crysanth! =) I used to be on here a lot, and I just kind of stopped, but now I'm back. It seems like Chatterbox is still awesome, don't you think so?

Don't say you're not interesting! I'm sure you are. I'll be in high school next year, and I have a cat. I'm interested in a bunch of stuff, but proper grammar is nice, and I don't like flaming either. It's rotten.

Fanfiction is amazing! (I write them sometimes, mainly Allstar Weekend, because they're cool.) I don't really like manga, but have nothing against it, cats-Shakespearean poetry are cool! I've never actually read The Taming of the Shrew. My favorite Shakespearean play is probably Romeo and Juliet. The idea of two people loving each other so much they can't live without the other is just so... wow. It's so powerful, knowing that love can overcome anything, feuding families, arranged marriages, even death. You can tell the two love each other more than anything else, it's just so powerful to me, you know? I like Greek mythology, but I'm not terribly good at drawing. I'm better at writing/singing/guitar (though I haven't learned much yet). I haven't heard of Orson Scott Card, I'll have to look him up.

I actually love gum and pizza, although I do know people who hate them, so, to his his own! =) Planting potatoes does not sound fun at all. I actually like female characters of that variety, considering I'm like so many of them. To me women being all quiet and obedient to their husbands is just... not right, in some ways. I mean, being quiet is fine, but having to be obedient to the one who is supposed to love you, yet still let you be your own person? Not cool. I've never actually smelled sandalwood incense, but generally I like incense. Flip-flops aren't all that great, really. Homework is horrible (except I'm still homeschooled, so it's all homework, bleh).

I like those three things too! I will trust you. ;) I write mostly fiction too, but I actually like writing about alternate universes. The idea of princesses and princes and dragons being real just transports me to the place I like most, you know?

I look forward to writing with you too! =)

Hi!  I'm Charlotte (on the older threads I'm known as BuksRul).  Glad you are here!  You don't like gum!?  Aaaaaauuuuughhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I think I'm going to faint!!! ~faints~ ~reawakens~ I'm back, although I agree with you on the Flip-flops, and a little on the grammar (Ilove parenthesis!).  I'm not much of a fanfiction person :-P.  Yay!  You have dogs!  I have six Labrador Retrievers!  Yay!  I don't like planting potatoes, but I loooove eating them in any way except that store-bought bagged hash brown glop, french fries and tater tots.  I hate homework too (except for creative writing), so in other words I hate school, because I'm a homeschooler.  I think everbody here like writing and reading.

Things not to discuss (some of them are common sense, others are less obvious): The obvious ones: Religion, politics etc.  The not so obvious ones: Jonas Brothers, Eragon isn't really a good topic either (both of those caused some feelings to be hurt.).

Do you know what NaNoWriMo is?  National Novel Writing Month.  You set a word goal and try tro write a novel in a month.  It's happening this month.  There is the Adult program where you have to do 50,000 words and YWP where you can set your own word goal.  I just had to bring NaNo up; I am obsessed with it.

I will stop rambling now.  Glad you're here!

Hi! I'm Ima! I agree about fanfiction, cats, Shakespearean poetry (I haven't read The Taming of the Shrew, but I read an excerpt and know what you mean), Norse mythology, drawing, writing, and reading.

Oh, and just out of curiousity, why is there a [1] by the phrase 'Strong nd Independant variety?' It wasn't a Tough Guide to Fantasyland reference, was it?
