I gaze out my window at the streets.  Mother keeps on babbling about her new chauffer to her 'high-society friends'.  *snort*  I bet she isn't telling them about her crush on him.  Dang society.  I wish I could just abandon it forever and explore the world.  New York City is bland after living in it for a while.  I've been wanting to go to India since my brother told me about it.  Lucky Charlie.  He gets to be a boy.

Mother keeps on babbling.  I steal away, telling her I have to relieve myself.  Really, I slip out the kitchen door, and out onto the streets to meet Carl.  I tep around a pile of muck, then look at the storefronts.  Hayle's General Store.  This is it.
