Chatterbox: Inkwell

ART THREAD!!

ART THREAD!!

I know people have said this before, but... the Inkwell is for artists, too.  Do you draw or paint?

I do both, but I'm a bit better at drawing.  I'm not great at either, though.  It's just fun.  (Rather like singing, which I LOVE, but I can't hold a tone, and can't hear that I can't hold a tone, so my singing just annoys everyone.  I only do it in the shower or when I'm alone on the floor, and then only very quietly.  Verrrrry verry very quietly.  But I digress.)

So, what art do you do?

I love art!!  I draw with pencils and pens, have a bit of a problem with anything related to coloring though (painting, markers, etc.).  I've drawn for as long as I can remember, mostly drawing people.  I don't know why I mostly draw people.  I don't like doing still life. I've taken a few art classes over the years and many times the class ends up doing still life, which to me is very boring.

As for singing, I can't sing in tune either, but I think it is something that comes with time and practice, rather than just being born being a good singer or not a good singer.

I like colored pencils, and watercolors are fun with someone to show you techniques. The art teacher for my homeschool classes is amazing, so I've gotten to try out a lot of different things that would have turned out rather badly if I'd just done them on my own. I also enjoyed the pen and ink class I took from her last year.

Re: Singing: I think some people are born good singers, and some people are not as much, but everyone can improve at least a little if they practice. For instance, I'm in Annie right now. The girl who plays Annie has an AMAZING voice, far better than mine will ever sound, no matter how much I practice. (Now her acting...but let's not go into that.) She has to have been born with at least some voice talent for that type of sound to come out of her mouth. One of my friends, C., could not sing at all a year ago. While she's not terrific now, her older sister (who is terrific) has been working with her and she can actually carry a tune!

Anyway, maybe you can see my point...

I took a drawing class last fall and actually made a decent drawing of a bicycle seat... we were all (fourteen of us) supposed to draw part of a bicycle, and I couldn't stand the idea of the light reflecting off the metal, and the straight lines, and angles... I did the seat.  Bad wimpy girl.  Someone else was trying to do the gears.

Wow.  I'd love to be able to sing.  I don't think anyone in our house has the time or patience to work with me, though, on singing.  (My brother can't sing either, but he doesn't admit it and tries anyway, like singing the voice accompaniment to his piano playing.  Anyway, I couldn't tell you if a note you played was C or A if it was in isolation...)

On Art...

I'm terrible, unless I'm using a grid. But that's hard for me, too, since I can barely draw a straight line, even with a ruler. (I think I have issues...)

On Singing...

I don't really know how to desribe myself singing. People say I'm good, and my mom says I'm bad. I can hit the high note on 'The Star Spangled Banner," so go ahead and determine that...
