Advice for the Stupid Writer?(:

-Headdesk Moments, Commitment Issues and Sheer Laziness

Hey guys!

I come on this very site rarely these days, I know I kept saying I'd stay on and all but that's been proving really difficult.  Anyway I'm back because this is the only place I know of where I can post (bits of) my writing and get some kind of helpful feedback.  Do you guys know any others?  I know the Script Frenzy and NaNo sites, but frankly they scare the daylights outta me, seeing as when I manage to write more that a page or so it's a good day.

So guys, could you gve me some tips on how to stay on track?  I tend to have a beginning of a good idea, so i write it down, but i either get bored or think its lousy or simply forget about continuing it.  The moment I get writers block I usually abandon ship.  Alsoo, school's really been sapping my time these days, (highschool!  URGHH!) and if i'm ever going to write anything decent I'm going to need to be loads more prolific.

Please help!  I know some of you can pump out a novel each month, which the very idea of makes me break out in a cold sweat (I'm not good with pressure haha,); I admire you guys so much!  Any kind of advice, on anything really, would help me.  And I need it, especially since I've decided my dream job is to become a photojournalist (for National Georgaphic or something as outrageous).  I know it's pretty ridiculous, but one can dream, can't one?

So yeaa.  Thanks!

Okay, this is what I do about staying on track (I got it from Cassandra Clare, and she got it from somebody else.)

BICHOK

Butt In Chair. Hands On Keyboard.

What can I say? It works.

Someone said this, and I think it's true: There's no such thing as writer's block. You always have something to write, just sometimes you don't realize it, or you think it's stupid. Nothing is too stupid to write down, because you can always edit it later. I've been trying to remember it myself. :)

Anyway, write want you want to write, for fun. I think if you like something enough you automatically get good at it. There doesn't have to be any pressure, unless it's a school assignment.

You can also (if you want) just have one continuous story, where the character does everything that comes into your head. Remember that you have infinite creative license, so elephants can suddenly fall from the sky if you feel like it.

I heard an interesting tip: Invite your character into the room for a conversation with you. Say hello. Get an idea of them. Sometimes, when you're writing, inspiration just comes- sometimes you warm up by daydreaming, or doing any one of many, many writing exercises.

You can voice record if your hands are tired, or too slow. The first draft can have perfectly awful spelling and grammar.

And even the final draft, if you're writing in first person.

If you plan out the story first, that can help- but don't stick to the plan if you think of something better.

And you can try to "write a picture"- look at a scene and say, what does this remind me of? The wackier the better, as long as it rings true in one way or another. Or sounds good. Or you just like it that way. You could end up with a poem.

Basically, I'd say, just write, don't worry, leave places blank if you need to (Mr. name), and if you have fun it's a success. Making everything perfect is likely to make you so nervous you will quit.

Pumping out a novel a month is overrated. I wrote one novella, and it wasn't as good and I'm not as proud of it as some of my short stories and poems.

That's all I can think of! Hope it's helpful! :)

Oh, you asked about other writing websites. I don't know any in particular, but what I do is show my work to my mom or grandma or someone. You may already be doing this. I don't know why I prefer it. I think it's because I like reading out loud. :3
