Finally posting.

Draco~
I took a deep breath.
Then I took another breath, just in case.
Doubtful that it would work, I took a third breath.
It didn't.
"Try to keep up yourself, daughter of a unicorn," I hissed. She rolled her eyes. After a while, we reached a dark cavern. A humongous waterfall crashed from the ceiling, and sparkling water droplets flew in all directions. I raised my hand and already saw them clinging like dewdrops to my fingers.
"Oh, nobles like sparkly things," I heard Nova say loudly. "That's why Siara or Sierra or whatever it is likes those droplets so much, they look like diamonds."
We heard an all-too-familiar giggle. "So, Nova and Draco are still at it." I looked up to see Essrial floating above the waterfall. I almost threw my sword, but remembered last time.
"Throw it, Draco, I just love some good fun," she urged.
"No way." I slipped it into its sheath.
"Aw." She sounded disappointed. "Oh well. The good news is, you're here, and you have an extra sacrifice as well, so I'll get lots of power after all. The bad news is, Endeyrory didn't get to watch his friends die. The other bit of good news is that he'll get to do it in a moment."
Ketira stepped forward. "Lady, don't even think of it. These are my sacrifices now."
Sacrifices? Well, I shouldn't be surprised. Ketira would have a selfish reason.
"Nuh-uh! I found them first!" Essrial replied in a pouty voice.
"Actually, lady, that one over there is my brother," Ketira said smugly. "And I got acquainted with the others through him."
Essrial groaned. "So that's how they got past the caves -- you're another dragon speaker! I should have seen that coming..." She drifted downward and leaned closer to Ketira. "I know you -- you're Troner's little pet, aren't you?"
"Vice versa," Ketira corrected. "He's my little pet."
"That makes no difference and is not helpful at all. Now,girl, you may have known him longer, but I had the idea to use them as sacrifices FIRST, so I get to use them, AND I can use magic, so there!" An anxious yet slightly amused murmur ran through the crowd. Essrial was acting like a tired three-year-old.
"I can use it too," came a quiet voice from the far corner of the cavern. And I guessed right who it was for once, because this was how it was supposed to go. Deren was standing in the corner.
"I have known them longer than Essrial, and I have known Draco just as long as Ketira knew Endey. I can use magic. This pits me against Essrial, whom I challenge once more, for the right over these sacrifices. All of them.". His gaze lingered on me, and I was surprised  and slightly perturbed - instead of anything before, it was pure hatred.
Well, at least he won't try to kill me now. That was  as Essrial would put it, the good news.
And the bad news? Three people were debating over which one of them should kill us.

Nova-

"God you guys know some weird people." I groaned. "So in conclusion, a psyco magic lady, Endey's off-her-rocker sister, and Draco's maniac ex are all debating over who gets to use us as sacrifices?" Draco and Endey both almost leaped at me.

"Well it's true!" I snapped. "And I don't know about you magic-loving morons, but I don't plan on being anyone's sacrifice!" I loaded my bow and was about to shoot Ketira, when Endey yelled, "STOP!" I didn't lower the bow, but I didn't fire.

"Drake! Endey you have serious family issues!" I spat.

"Doesn't everyone?" Essrial asked. I shrugged. Guess so. I glanced around, lowering my bow. I had a crazy stupid idea, but it was better than anything those morons could think up, so I decided to go with it.

"You three? Evil vilains, yeah you." Deren, Essrial, and Ketira turned to me.

"How about a trade?" I asked. They all looked a little curious.

"These guys go free, and you get to split whatever magic I've got?" I asked.

"Nova! Don't be stupid!" Elyanna hissed.

"There is no way. The magic of all of them, or just part of yours?" Ketira asked. I shrugged.

"True enough, but, think about it. Think about all the past times when people tried to get their magic, or defeat them or whatever the drake they wanted to do. They always won. So, you can let them go and take me easily, or be defeated and we all go free. Really I don't think you have another option if you want at least some magic," I said slyly.

"Nova, we're not letting you do that!" Adela said. I rolled my eyes.

"Shut up." I turned back to the three evil people in the room.

"So, how about it?" The three of them seemed to be considering.

"We will defeat them." Essrial said.

"Lady, how many times have people said that, and been wrong, versus how many times they've said it and been right?" I asked. She started to consider. "Jeeze, you guys are dumber than the dragon gods." I rolled my eyes.

"Hey!" Draco snapped.

"Sacrificing myself for you here! You can at least not insult me!" I snapped back. She didn't respond.

"Fine," Deren said. Slowly the others agreed.

"Let them go first," I said evenly.

"Nova!" Someone yelled, but I wasn't listening. There was a flash of light and they were gone.

"Where are they?" I asked.

"Outside the caves."

"Good, so let's get this over with," I muttered. The three of them reached out their hands, and suddenly I felt like I was being drained. There was a lot of pain, a bright flash of light and then nothing.

Of course, in this world no one can die without going to some kind of afterlife. So when I woke up and was facing the dragon gods I was shocked, not surprised, and annoyed.

"Nova Atticus, you have been resurrected in the afterlife so that you can help the others on their quest." Great. Even when I'm dead they still need me--typical.

"So, lemme get this straight. I'm dead, and I still need to help them?" I asked.

"Yeah, pretty much," one of them said.

"Great."

So yeah, she's dead, and she's occasionally helping them with the dragon gods.

TOP!

Um.....okay. I feel so guilty right now.

I'll post later today.

I can't believe that I nagged, then pushed, then was rude to people and reminded them of the Oath of Eternal Writing....then I forgot about the oath of eternal writing myself.

(I mean, it included topping. How was I too busy to write three letters, a punctuation mark, and then four more for the CAPTCHA.)

((and so did you guys but how does that relate to the topic at hand...?))

Thank you Sam. And thank you Anonymous Topper. We can bring this thread back to life. Hopefully.

And now I see that Draco went from a Sue to a boring, flat character, to .....a boring flat character. Again. And I don't know what to do or why Endey likes her.

But I'll post later today.

I'm going to be depressing now. Just a heads up.

Endeyrory Pracea

Nova had just sacrificed herself for us. And now she was dead. D. E. A. D. Dead. Not living. And she lay outside.

"Oh gods," Draco said, her hand over her mouth, and I had to agree with her. Oh gods. We ran back through the rooms, through the room where there wasn't fire, past the stone boulder, through the cave with the stone dragons, which didn't attack us, all the way out of the cave.

"That was boring," Essrial said. She smiled like a demented three year old. "I'm going to float away now," she said, and did just that. Nova lay on the ground. Oh gods. She really was dead. Dead saving us.

"You're all sick," Elyana said. I still couldn't move. Nova was dead. Just like that. And she had screamed.

"Flintwall," my psychopathic younger sister said, "is going to be extremely interesting." Ketira snapped her fingers and held a flame in her palm.

Deren just stared at all of us, a smug grin on his face. "I hate you," Draco said venmously.

"Hate doesn't help, sweetie," Ketira said.

"Why haven't you left?" I asked my sister.

She stared at me, and I saw fire reflected in her eyes. "I keep my bargains," she said. "Even with my brother the coward. But I don't believe he keeps his bargains." She gestured towards Deren.

He smiled. "Nova is dead. She kept her end of the bargain, but now she doesn't care if I keep mine or not."

I had no idea how to use my magic, if I had any at all. Deren knew how to use his. Plus, he was already dead. I didn't even know if he could die again. Guess who was at a definite disadvantage here? I drew my sword."Endeyrory," Ketira said sharply.

"Ketira," I said.

"You kindly persuaded Nova Atticus from attempting to kill me. She probably wouldn't have, but the gesture was appreciated. Now I'm telling you not charge at Deren like an idiot knight and get yourself killed."

Deren smiled. "Oh, by all means, charge me. I will enjoy killing you."

Behind him, I can see open ground. Open ground, far, far below. We are standing near the edge of a cliff.

I turned to Draco. "Would you like to join me in trying to kill your ex?" I asked politely.

Wonderful, wonderful Draco glared at me. "He is not my ex."

"I know. Would like his left side or his right side?"

"Left."

I looked at Ketira, who stared at me, impassive.

Draco and I charged towards Deren, like idiot knights.

Perhaps knights are not as stupid as they seem. Perhaps they just know that they are almost hopelessly outmatched, and the only way they can conquer their fear is to charge and face their enemy head on.

I think that's why I'm in love with the most beautiful girl in the world. She is so brave. She, Kerra, and Elyana faced me even though they had very little weapons training. Me, a dragon slayer, a person who slaughtered the creatures they loved and cared for. And Draco's not an idiot, like a knight. She doesn't accept the world around her. She tries to change it, for the better. She ran away from home at the age of twelve. Draco is so incredibly brave.

I slashed at Deren's right side, expecting him to send a wave of fire straight at my head. Which he does. This fight is going to be hard. I have to be quick, to avoid the blows from his magic. Because that's his real weapon.

Draco and I worked on both sides, but he still managds to fend off all attacks. With some fancy ball of light, he singed my left arm. We pushed closer and closer to the edge of the cliff. Deren managed to get us far away enough for a moment so he could draw his own sword, which promptly started glowing. Drake.

I went in close, reaching in for a stab wound. Deren, to my suprise, let me. My sword hit ice, like armor and got stuck. I tried to yank it out, a beginner's mistake. Draco darted in and sliced open his arm, but it was too late. Deren stabbed him with that stupid glowing sword of his. A heart wound, and I fell to the ground, right at the edge of the cliff. Another few seconds, and I would fall over.

Deren's ice armor melted and fell to the ground with a splash, my sword following. Draco was there, and stabbed him with enough force that he fell over. But not before grabbing her ankle. She fell at the same time I toppled.

We found each other's hands on the way down.

____________________________________

Death was different. There was just too much of... nothing. The dragon gods appeared briefly, but vanished.

I still held Draco's hand.

We saw the things that would happen. Deren was dead, for good this time. Ketira went back to Flintwall, publicly dumped Troner, and traveled. She traveled very far, for years. Finally she arrived in a city with... machines. She used her magic to manipulate fire. It was called Republic Citadel, or something like that. Eventually she left that world, and became a mercenary.

That was my little sister.

Our group went to Flintwall eventually, after many years. They fought in a very public battle over the city against Essrial, and won. Then they installed a new government, this one by the people. A democracy. They had many, many adventures after that. And before that.

Hadrian Rilleyo became the "Prime Minister". Whatever that was.

He named one of his kids Endey. Well, who have thought that? We only killed his father, and I only stabbed him, so it just goes to show that the world moves in unexpected ways.

And as we turned away from what might happen, because nothing is set in stone, we still held hands.

We turned from what had been and walked into a brave new world.

Because together, we are strong enough to be brave.
