In the spirit

In the spirit of my "books that made you cry" thread on BAB, here is a thread to discuss music that did the same. Or close. What is everybuggy's favorite sad music? Is it the lyrics or the tune that makes it sad? Can a song be sad from just the tune, really?

Also, do you guys think there is such a thing as scary music? If so, what? (I'll give my own opinion on this later.)

Sad songs: Danny Boy, Shenandoah, Bring Him Home

Sad music: Theme from Schindler's List

I'm sure I have more, but that's all I can think of right now.

These two songs that I heard at camp: How He Loves by John Mark Mcmillan and Cannons by Phil Wickham. They make me cry EVERY TIME I HEAR THEM and I don't know why.

Hm.. I mostly listen to Japanese stuff, but I know of an AMAZING song that sometimes makes me want to cry: Raspberry Heaven by Oranges and Lemons. Such an amazing song. Look it up. The ending to Mononoke Hime (I think it's called Princess Mononoke in English) is also very sad.

Their is such a thing as scary music, without that, scary movies would be half as scary or just plain funny. My friends and I once watched a scary movie with the sound off (with subtitles) and it was so funny we all about died laughing.

I think the reason Raspberry Heaven is so sad, comes from the anime it stars in as the ending theme, Azumanga Daioh. Azumanga Daioh is about 6 high school girls living their way through high school. At the very end, they are graduating and thier lives are moving off in different directions but there is such a great hope that they will see each other again. Raspberry Heaven conveys those feelings perfectly.
