X-Factor Songs .

Hey guys , I made a thread on DtE
about auditioning for the popular show X-Factor (
http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/downtoearth/node/122774 ) , and
I need some song suggestions .

I've done a bit of research , and people say the producers tend to gravitate towards the pop songs .

I've
never had vocal / musical lessons , so I really don't know what my
voice "type' is . I know that for a girl , my voice is rather deep ( not
like Cher , or a boy or nothing , but not very high . I thiink I'm a
tenor , but I could be completely wrong ) .

Also , my famiy is
devout Christian , and I was wondering what yall thought about singing a
Christian song . Like "Dead Come to Life" by Jonathan Thulin or a Britt
Nicole song .

Otherwise , I was thinking maybe "Greneade" by Bruno Mars , "Without You" by Chris Brown , "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus ... I don't know , My top one is "Without You" , it's an easy song , but I can easily "spice" it up a bit . It's also a beautiful song .

Thanks for your suggestions as well !

Tenor is typically a guy vocal part.  I can hit tenor notes, though, and I know others who can, so if your voice is low there is a possibility you can sing tenor parts.  You'd probably be categorized as an alto, though, if you ever tried out for a choir.

For my suggestions, I would just pick a song you're comfortable with and feel good singing.  Don't pick a very high song if you can't go that high.  I think The Climb is good, but be careful with that one because she belts a lot and it's very easy to let those notes get away from you.

Good luck, hon.:)

Yeah , like I said , I am completely wrong !

Thaaanks though !

And yeah , she does . It's preeetty easy for me . But , Without You is like  my favorite song , and it's not like gender-specific . It jus says "baby" . So , lol yeah .

Cool! I would not choose The Climb, since it does go pretty high during the chorus, and I did that for an audition for a school musical, and I didn't get too big of a singing part, because I guess I didn't control my notes or something, but i'm sure it was just the song, so be careful.

You could also do "Royals" by Lorde. Mel has a very deep singing voice, so you should be good with it, since it is low, and if it's too low, raise it up an octive.

Good luck!

I think it's a great idea for you to sing a Christian song!!! You were mentioning Britt Nicole, so maybe her song, Set the World on Fire? I heard it, and it's a terrific! I'm not sure how easy this would be for you, but you could try! Good luck on your audition!

@ Vida: It just hit me, try searching the music from Grace Unplugged. The music is fantastic, and beautiful! One of my favorites is Never Let Go. Maybe you could see if any of those would work.

So, first, I think it's awesome that you're auditioning for X-Factor and I wish you lots of luck! Also, like Melody said, you should sing a song that you're really comfortable with and that you like a lot. When I auditioned for the Jazz band at our school it took me a very long time to find a song because I have a deep voice but I finally decided on a deeper version of Birdy's People Help the People. That may not be what you're looking for, though.

I think if you have a deep voice you probably shouldn't sing Bruno Mars since his voice is pretty high and he also belts, which makes it even higher and you'll strain your voice. Like others have said, The Climb also gets very high during the chorus. I do really think that's a great song, though, since it's about not giving up.

Someone Like You is a great song but I've noticed that on singing shows the judges can be very critical if you take on a big singer like Adele.

I'm going to think about more song recommendations for you. Do you have a really strong, belty voice or more of a soft deep one? Wings by Little Mix is a really fun song! Mama Do by Pixie Lott is also nice. Or Valerie by Amy Winehouse?

Adele's good, just a little ambitious.  If you do that song, PRACTICE.

You're right . She is . She has a range I don't .. But tips on the internet say to choose a song that's a bit unknown , so I need to do some searching around .

Also , my church family are tryna push me towards a Christian song . What do yall think about that ? I want too , but again I don't wanna get the athiest producer who won't put me through becaue I'm a Christian or a "religous type" .  I'mkind of conflicted .

@ Vida: I totally know what you're going through. I'll tell you as one Christian to another, this kind of thing is REALLY hard. I've struggled with that in my writing. I send it into places, but it has Christian references, so it's often not selected or accepted, though of course they don't say so.

But I've got to say, I really really really think you should. There aren't a whole lot of Christian examples out there, especially in things like this. It's important for us to always be an example and a light for others. We can't let our being Christians be a hinderance, but rather a tool to spread His Word. While there aren't many Christians on things like X-Factor, there are occasionally. And you always admire the people who are, who defeat the odds, and get up there to show the world; "Despite what you say, I'm a Christian, and proud of it!" If it defeats your chances, at least you'll be able to hold your head up and say "I did what was right, and I tried. I did it for you God, and I can face you one day, and know I glorified you." It may or may not make an impression, but if you do get in, maybe someone will see you, and you'll be able to touch their lives in some small way no one thought you would. It's happened before. Vida, from reading what you say, I can see a LOT of potential in you! Definitely make as much of it you can.

I still strongly recommend you see Grace Unplugged! It focuses on this a lot, and Grace wanting to be a singer even though it conflicts with her faith. She realizes what's right, though it's hard. It's a really inspirational, and I think you could really relate to it.

You're in my prayers, and I hope you do well! Good luck!

Also Vida, it isn't for the producer to rule you out because of what you chose to sing. This isn't about so much what you sing as how. If he rejects you because it's a Christian song, that's his fault, and not any fault of yours. It isn't for him to boycott Christianity and you on a show that is all about how you sing. It's his own personal beliefs that would keep you from being on there, not an official rule. It would be wrong of him to do that! It would be no different than him denying me because I'm blonde or some other ridiculous reason!!!

Try, Vida, try. It's him against you. And you have the Lord on your side. So if the Lord is on your side, then who should you fear?

I support you Vida, all the way!

@Vida- The most important thing when auditioning is that you choose a song that you know well and love and that makes you feel good. Whether that's a Christian song or a Pop song, it doesn't matter. Do what you feel comfortable with and don't worry too much about what the producer thinks. An audition is there to show people who YOU are and if they don't like you the way they are, that's their problem. Good Luck!!
