Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

This may seem

This may seem a weird kind of thread, but since Pudding's Place is slowly dying, I'm going to do my best to revive it.

Question: What do you think of Errol Flynn?

From everything I've heard, I've always supposed he's the most awesome, panache-ful actor that ever graced the silver screen--and that Tom Hiddleston was Errol Flynn reincarnated--so I thought I'd see The Adventures of Robin Hood with him in it, to see for myself, since I like Robin Hood anyway.

I was slightly disappointed. For one thing, he wasn't quite as handsome as I expected (sorry, superficial me). For another, he didn't really seem that talented an actor. He's charismatic, but not any more so than any of the actors back in the thirties/forties. My general conclusion is that those who try to emulate him actually do it better than he did, if that makes sense. Like how Orlando Bloom, playing Legolas and Will Turner, seemed to create that kind of persona a little better. And I somehow think that pigeonholing Hiddleston by comparing him to Flynn is to gloss over his more sophisticated acting chops. Even Flynn Rider in Tangled, who was evidently based on Errol Flynn (heck, even the names are similar), seemed to have more panache!

What is your opinion on this?

I'm not a good judge of acting skill, but I watch a lot of old movies, and I thought Errol Flynn was good in Captain Blood.  As far as I know, I haven't seen Tom Hiddleston in anything.

Yes, Captain Blood was a bit better than Robin Hood.

@ Bounty:

Tom Hiddleston was in War Horse, Thor, Thor: The Dark World and The Avengers. He's also in a number of adult films which I, obviously, have not seen. He is, by far, my all-time favorite actor.
