Let It Go

I was just listening to the song "Let It Go" in the Disney movie Frozen on Youtube and just started to cry, overwhelmed with the uplifting message. I know Nina and a few others are huge fans of the movie, so I thought I'd mention it. The song is so inspiring; telling you just to do just what you want (within safe means, of course), without fear of censure by anyone else. Definitely my new favorite Disney song!

Elsa was originally supposed to be the villain but they changed it.  I related more to Anna because I'm awkward :P

I'm really glad they didn't make Elsa the villain. Disney needs more non-evil female characers in major positions of power, as well as more non-evil female characters who don't have romance storylines (major characters, I mean, with speaking parts), so Elsa being both made me really happy. I don't find romantic storylines uninteresting as long as I'm interested in the characters in them, but I'm frustrated with the assumption that all important characters will have them--my dad actually asked me who I thought would be the king of Arendelle! (He even assumed she has to be straight on top of wanting a relationship...) And it gives people who don't want that in their life, like me, the message that our stories aren't worth telling, which is frustrating. And I can't think of any other female characters ruling a country or equivalent in Disney who isn't evil, which is definitely a problem. So Elsa was really necessary, as far as that stuff goes. Way overdue, really.

I identified with Anna's awkwardness, as well as her loneliness, but for the most part, I identified more with Elsa. I mean, for one thing, she didn't have the romance thing--I'm an aromantic asexual, so I don't even know what that feels like. Also, though--Elsa's lonely, too, but Anna responds by reaching out to everyone even when she shouldn't, and I have more of a tendency to close myself off because I'm afraid I'll mess something up and it'll hurt too much, which is why I don't have more friends and is exactly what Elsa does, except she does it intentionally and is afraid she'll hurt other people. (Also, she does it much more than me).

Did anyone hear that this song won the Oscar for Best Original Song this year? I was so impressed!

Yeah! It was up against Happy, another of my faves. I was torn, but knew Let It Go had to win.

Did you know that Martina Stoessel did a Spanish version called "Libre Soy" or, I'm Free?

This was really awesome, 'cause I understand Spanish, though I don't speak it that often. I also have no Spanish blood, but my mom speaks it.

It is slightly different than the other veirsions;

"What's inside of you, don't let it be seen

A good girl you must always be

You don't have to open your heart

Because it's already been opened"

That's the “Don't let them in, don't let them see," etc. part.

: )

PS I took this from Lyrics Translate.
