Lorde

Ok, because I'm so darn slow, I've only jumped on the Lorde bandwagon now, after a hundred and one posts about her have gone unnoticed under my nose on the CB. I'm listening to her song "Buzzcut Season" over and over again; it's the best tune I've heard in a long time. I wasn't such a huge fan of "Royals" when I heard it on the radio, but when I was surfing Youtube, I found this radio show performance of "Buzzcut Season" and immediately felt like I had been missing out on something for...like...ever?

One thing that's cool about her is her literary influences (how many singers can say they turn to short story writers for songwriting inspiration??), and how she seems so dedicated to her music--not just selling herself as an wild, shocking image like Miley Cyrus or Lady Gaga. She does have her own unique style, though.

What are your favorite songs of hers?

P.S. Please please please don't think I'm antedeluvian because I just get into things much later than everyone else. Embarassed

It's Ok, you're not antedeluvian; I admit that I sometimes get into things much later than everyone else, too.

Mmmm, I'm not a huge Lorde fan. I'm not real crazy about Royals either; it sometimes gets on my nerves, and knowing this, my little sister will drive me crazy by singing it 24/7! =S   Sooo, yeah. I've never heard of  "Buzzcut Season," but I intend to listen to it on YouTube later. Does it contain any swear words? Cause I'm not allowed to listen to music containing swear words... I never knew about her literary influences. That makes me like her a little more...

You're probably wondering why I don't like her. Well, I'm just not that crazy about her voice. And she has this look (I know, I don't have to watch her vidieos). It's almost creepy. So, the bottom line is, I don't really like Lorde. But one or two of her songs that I hear on the radio don't bug me. I just hate it when my sister keeps singing Royals.

I have only listened to a few of her songs, and my fave (so far) is Tennis court. I like how it's really fast moving.

Yay! Another Lorde fan! She is sort of strange but I think it's awesome that she stays true to herself and doesn't seem to care what others think. By the way, Everinne, I didn't know she used short stories as lyric inspirations. That's cool! Do you know which short stories?

I had the same experience when I first heard "Royals". I didn't like it but then I listened to it again and I got obsessed. :D But actually, I find her less known (I think that is grammatically incorrect...?) songs ("Buzzcut Season", for example) are way better than "Royals", even though "Royals" is still a great song!

My favorite songs by Lorde at the moment are "Buzzcut Season" and "No Better". I like the beats in her songs. They remind me of how it feels driving down the road late at night (especially "400 Lux").

Have any of you listened to her new song? It's a collaboration with another group. I think the song is called "Easy" but I'm not sure. I personally didn't like it that much... :-/

@ Elizabeth:

She cited the writers Raymond Carver, Wells Tower, Tobias Wolff, and Claire Vaye Watkins as being lyrical inspirations, then said she was also inspired by the poetry of Sylvia Plath and Walt Whitman.

I did find her singing moves slightly strange at first, but when you have such a good beat like that to sing to, why wouldn't you dance along?

Buzzcut Season is one of the best songs ever! It's a shame that didn't become a single like Royals did. :(

I'm not really that big a fan because I've only ever heard the ones on the radio (plus the cover she did for Catching Fire because I love that one) but she was at my school two days ago.

Yep, she was doing a show in Chicago the next night and was friends with one of the seniors. She took pictures of our school and posted them on instagram.

My dad really LOVES oldies songs (like, '80s) and monster ballads. It's really annoying. He even has multiple cd's of them in his car to torture us with! Anywaaaaays, sometimes he surprises my little sister and I with liking some of the "regular songs", if you will. Whenever he does, they are the weirdest choices. Like who'd ever predict that he'd like "Stay"? Well, the most recent one is "Team" by Lorde. The funny thing is that he thinks Royals is stupid. ...?

Yeah. Well, that's my dad!
