Musicals!

What are some of your favorite musicals? I have a few, and I definitely recommend them. These musicals are very popular, so I won't be surprised if you have heard of them or watched them before. I LOVE The Sound of Music (the original one, not the one with Carrie Underwood) and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Both are based on actual stories! I performed in both as a school production. I also really like the Wizard of Oz! I'm not sure if Disney movies are musicals, but I love Frozen. I hope they will make a Broadway about it!

I just love The Sound of Music! We saw the one with Carrie Underwood, but I'm thinking that while it's pretty well done for a live show (I love how they made the set!) it could never compete with the original. Not in a million years. *SPOILER ALERT* The actors, while they were good, were unfamiliar to me, and it seemed strange to call that girl Marta, for example, because she doesn't look like the Marta I know. And they didn't seem to have any feeling in their voice, everything was so bland! But I liked how they added a new song, to make it seem like they weren't trying to remake the movie, but make a new movie. And how the Baroness was kind, and left because they weren't meant to be together.  Some of the lines were better, most of them were not. But overall, it was good enough - but the original was ever so much better! *SPOILER ENDED*

I also like The Music Man and White Christmas. They were so, so good!!!

The Carrie Underwood Sound of Music was the original show. The movie with Julie Andrews is not the Broadway version. I should know. I was Gretl:)

The original version was the one with Julie Andrews. I know that the one with JA was not the Broadway version, but it's the one that my family loves. When I said "the original," I meant the one with JA.

What do you mean that you were Gretl?

I love the original Sound of Music! It's one of my favorite movies of all time!

I can't believe they did a remake. I'm sure it's not bad, but I'm purist about things. :)

Seussical
Fiddler on the Roof

I LOVE Fiddler on the Roof. The music is so beautiful and there are so many good lines spoken, too.

My school did Fiddler on the Roof, but I was in third grade and I wasn't in choir. I did watch it, though, because some of my friends were in it. I didn't really understand it, but could you tell me what it's about?

The story is set in Russia in the early 1900s. Tevye is a poor Jewish dairyman with 4 or 5 daughters. Much of it is funny/comedy, but it's also poignant and sad: about how hard life is for him and other Jews, and Jewish traditions. He talks out loud to God like he would to a friend. Some of his daughters break with tradition, which is painful for Tevye. One daughter leaves home to follow her lover to Siberia: "Papa, God alone knows when we will see each other again." Tevye replies, "Then we'll leave it in His hands."

The admin did a good job explaining it. It's very sad in some parts, but a lot of it is really funny. And the dancing, and the songs, and oiuEHFzluhgtpz. It's too perfect for words. *wanders off singing L'Chaim because that's the best song*
