Weird Songs

SOmetimes it seems the weirdest songs get really good ratings. Some are just awful, others are okay. What songs really bug you? What ones are just plain weird?

Really, Everything is AWESOME and Its Raining Tacos drive me nuts, though I'm a crazy weirdo makes me laugh:)

EVERYTHING IS AWESOME, EVERYTHING IS COOL WHEN YOU'RE PART OF A TEAM, EVERYTHING IS AWESOME... WHEN YOU'RE LIVING YOUR DREAM *cough*

Yeah that movie is basically America.

Anyway, songs that bug me?

Pretty much anything that's terrible and pop-like (everything is awesome is FUNNY, that's the only reason I like it).

I'm not even going to get into Justin Bieber and One Direction, for fear of starting a war.

I like bands like R.E.M. and Smash Mouth and James and Men at Work and Let's Active and The Police and Talking Heads.

Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltstin is awesome, too. They make awesome songs but they're also kinda weird...

@ SomeonePlusFour: Agreed.

I can't really stand most "pop" music either. And romance songs. Sorry, but, no, too many just seem to be a girl or guy mooning over someone they think is out of their league, or doesn't notice them. Get over it.

So Taylor Swift, Justine Beiber, 1D, all outlawed in my house.

I also find music by "uprising stars" is generic and pretty much "same song second verse". If I listen to something, it's got to have actual meaning to it, and a good beat.

I personally really like; Shane Harper, Newsboys, Aj Michalka (particularly her Grace Unplugged soundtrack, namely Misunderstood), Aselin Debison, and a lot of movie soundtracks, like Brave.

I've never heard of any of those (except Brave, but I never watched the movie). Sometimes I just judge bands by their names, though, and Aj Michalka sounds awesome!

If I had a band, I would call it "The Bluejay Revolution" or TBJR for short. I've actually written a few songs but I don't think they're very good.

Oh, where do I begin?

- Gangnam Style

- What Does the Fox Say?

- I don't want to start anything, but everything by Justin Beiber ever.

- The same goes for One Direction.

- Hello Kitty by Avril Lavigne.

- The Harlem Shake.

I liked Gangnam Style and What Does The Fox Say? but they were very short lived and, in my opinion, not too memorable. The Harlem Shake is ok, and I listened to it a few times while randomly dancing with my friend but I didn't know about it for awhile. And oh gosh Justin Bieber... *sigh* He's not in the right direction right now. And now One Direction... ugh no. They're dying in popularity though, bit by bit, and will be replaced by yet another dumb boy band that "girls fall for". Like Big Time Rush got replaced by One Direction and all.

I like Gangnam Style, but I bet if he was speaking English instead of Korean I wouldn't like it as much.

I hate anything by anyone that I don't know and is not gospel music. I love Jamie Grace, Kari Jobe, Newsboys, Smalltown poets, etc. but hate others.

SPECIFIC TITLES:

-You don't Know you're beautiful

-Call Me Maybe

-Thrift Shop

- Get Lucky

Everything is Awesome makes sense in the context of The Lego Movie, but yeah, the fact that everyone is singing it everywhere is, yeah, kind of annoying. The sixth graders at my school, for instance.

I think One Direction are vaguely harmless. It's just another forgettable pop-boy-band that'll be forgotten within a couple of years, but for now as long as it's fans just, like, carry signs at concerts and don't step into the territory of creepy stalkry real-person-fic writers, I fine the band and the fandom pretty easy to ignore.

Justin Bieber is overall a mess. Enough said.

Country music: all of the lyrics sound like they were written in the 1800's, what with the romance and gender roles and talk of cowboys and stuff. The exception is Kacey Musgraves, whom I like mostly because her songs increase my confidence and stuff. Again, though, I don't mind it.

Fad songs that everyone hates but you hear everywhere regardless (What Does the Fox Say, Gangam Style, etc.) These are honestly more memes than songs. They die, so I make fun of them while they're still going on and then a couple weeks later they're forgotten.

The one song that I absolutely positively hate with a burning passion and will want the existence of erased is one that I probably won't be able to talk about on the Chatterbox. Let's just say that it's stupid and sexist and not even a good song and came out last year. I think all of you know the infamous piece of disgrace to the concept of 'music' that I'm talking about.

My music taste is a mess. I've got people stolen from my best friends (Darwin Deez), people I've found myself and will protect at all costs (Lauren Aquilina), I've got people from Youtube (Hank Green).

But seriously, look up Lauren Aquilina, because her voice is beautiful

As for country music, I like The Mavericks (but they're barely country, more like rock) and Lydia Loveless. Haven't heard much else, although Highway 20 Ride by The Zac Brown Band is pretty good.

Can you tell us the band who did the terrible song that came out last year? Maybe I'll recognize it then (or is it inappropriate?).

My music taste is so messed up I can't even tell you.

Oh, I think I know who it is. Is it a person, not a band, whose name starts with an "R"?

And in addition: I also dislike most Christian rock, not because it's religious, but because most of the time it's just really lazily written.

Agreed. I'd listen to hymns/Ominous Latin Chanting over today's Christian rock.

I tend to avoid popular music, but I must say I have been listening to Imagine Dragons and Of Monsters and Men and some Coldplay and enjoying.  Then I also listen to a lot of musicals and Irish folk and modern Irish and then there's TMBG and The Mountain Goats and Hank Green and Tom Lehrer and on occasion Chameleon Circuit.

I also like folk music a lot in general, but it bugs me when people mix it up with country.  It's entirely different!  Folk music is, well, complicated, and country is whining with a guitar.

Gangnam Style makes me stressed.
