Owl City.

:)

I seem to recall there being quite a few fans on the CB, but some of them may have left. In any case, who are the OC fans (or Adam-Young-in-general [Sky Sailing, Port Blue, Windsor Airlift] fans, I'm not picky) and what did you think of Ultraviolet?

For any of you who didn't know, Adam Young released Ultraviolet EP on June 26 and it featured four songs:

1. Beautiful Times (feat. Lindsey Stirling)

2.  Up All Night

3. This Isn't The End

4. Wolf Bite

I've been looking forward to this release ever since it was announced, and even more since he said it was going to contain dreamier songs like old Owl City. ("Old" Owl City being defined as Ocean Eyes-era and "new" being defined as Midsummer Station.) I was slightly disappointed by the quality of the songs.

Beautiful Times was already released as a single, and that was probably the second best one in the album. The lyrics are old-OC style, but the song structure and beat fall into the generic pop-song category and that kind of lost points.

Up All Night has a fairly good verse, and it sounds okay in general, but what killed it for me was a.) the intro, which is a total EDM sellout, and b.) the chorus:

"Held down like an angel with no wings/I want to fly again/I just can't get you off my mind/and now I'm gonna be up all night."

Which is pretty much the same as all the choruses from Midsummer Station that everyone was disappointed in.

This Isn't  The End is probably the best one on the album, with a really serious message. The music reminds me of If My Heart Was A House and it's pretty much a great song.

Annnnd then Wolf Bite.

Instead of saying anything about it, I'll write out some lyrics.

"It's another wolf bite/howling in the moonlight/I want to get my life right/will you show me the way tonight/*ridiculous dance synth lead*/will you be there/ton-i-i-i-i-ght, whoa-oh-oh."

So yeah. Not the best OC material ever.

Anywaaaay, (assuming there are other fans on here) what did you guys think of Ultraviolet?

*raises hand* I really like Adam Young's music, all of it (Sky Sailing, Port Blue, Owl City and Windsor Airlift). I've only heard Beautiful Times and Wolf Bite from his new EP and I liked both of them. Beautiful Times got me really excited becuase it also features Lindsay Stirling and she's one of my favorites as well.

And now I shall go listen to the rest of those.

NOBODY KNOWS WINDSOR AIRLIFT.

Even though it's not techincally Adam Young now, cause I think he left. But their original albums (Qiu! and Moonfish Parachutist, I think?).

Also, have you heard Carinthia? It's not Adam Young but the style is very similar because the guy was the music director for Owl City and it's all CONNECTED.

*high fives Owl City fan* I've been waiting for a new album by Owl City for months on end gosh! The last Owl City I heard was When Can I See You Again, Good Time, or the one with Yula in the Croods. And yeah, Midsummer Station was disappointing. I mean, way way way to electronic. There are a selective few I like from it, but most of it too electronic for my liking.

Anyway, the whole EP sounds good to me. I haven't listened to all of Wolf Bite, but it sounds ok. This Isn't The End sends out a great message, Up All Night makes me think of me trying to get to sleep sometimes when I have things on my mind, and Beautiful Things sounds nice. Keep making songs, Owl City :D
