I should have added "very" to the word "tall."

Chapter 1: Anxiety

I didn't always enjoy the first day, and today's that day I felt nervous, full of anxiety. I was so tall, I could see over everybody's heads. I was always the tallest.

I walked into my first class: Language Arts. I saw none of my friends in my first class, but I saw Lizzy Schwartz and Henry Youno, my worst enemies. People gossip that they're a couple, and I believe it, even though I usually don't believe in them. I only hope this will be a good year.

Chapter 2: The Start (of First Hour)

The teacher, Mrs. Graham, introduced herself and gave us a seating chart and told us that we should try not to get confused. I glanced at Lizzy. She rolled her dirt brown eyes.

I sat next to Quentin and Opal. I didn't know them that much; I think they were in a different elementary school. But this is 8th grade; elementary is in the past.

I started working on a worksheet Mrs. Graham gave us. I was just about done when Henry poked me from behind me. Does he have to sit there?

"Please stop," I whispered a little too loudly.

"No, Nolo." I cannot believe he still calls me that.

"Poke someone else!" He groaned and started poking Derrick. This is going too be a hard year.

Chapter 3: The Assignment

We learned about different types of poems today. It was tiring and boring and tedious, but I didn't care. I just sat in my seat, listening.

"Does anybody know what a lyric poem is?" Everyone nodded like they were synchronized nodders. "Yuki, can you tell everybody what a lyric poem is?"

"It's a poem that expresses personal emotions or feelings."

"Good. I want everyone to write down an example of a lyric poem for tonight's homework." Everyone nodded again.

The bell rang, and it sounded like a saiboat. I got up from my seat, walking out of the classroom silently.

~Ari~

I cough, trying to muffle it so my mom won't notice how painful it is. Have to be sick- on the first day of school! The day when everyone makes their friends and signs up for being the captain and officers of the various clubs . And I SO wanted to be captain of the cheer squad ! I blow my nose as quietly as I can and grab my phone. I dial a girl who lives across the street and goes to the same middle school.

I text,  When do they post the sign-ups for the clubs ?

She answers back almost immediately with, Today

I crumple the tissue. Bad enough I can't be leader, but not even be a member . . . .

I'm going. I'll pop into school while my mom's off picking up a late lunch and sign up then, I decide. I pull on a tanktop, some jeans and tennis shoes, then hurry out and leap on my bike. Coughing and pedaling, I hurry to the school and slip in.

I hurry down the locker-lined halls, searching among the posters for debate team, yearbook designers, and chess club. I start to cough, a thick, hacking cough which leaves me breathless and wincing, but I keep on searching. Finally, I find it. I scrawl my name and turn, about to race back, but suddenly my stomach rebels and I lean down, my stomach contracting as I puke.

Chapter 4: The Exhibit

After school my parents and I went to a museum. Sadly, none of my best friends were in any of my classes. Josh Burbank was, but Nolan wasn't, and I only get to see him at lunch. Not to be mean or anything.

We walked into the gigantic building with the tiniest doors ever. When we were inside, a giant caveman statue stared directly at us. Mom yelped which made us all snicker.

Planes and pterodactyls hovered above us, but I wanted to see the Egyptian exhibit. I found a map and tried to find the exhibit, but it was closed. I stared at it. Everybody knows life isn't a wish-granting factory.
