CALLING ALL ACTORS

CALLING ALL ACTORS AND ACTRESSES!

Ok, so I noticed that there are a lot of actresses/actors that read Cricket magazine and so I wanted to start a thread where we can ask advice, give advice, make cheesey references to musicals, and chat about our roles! If you're feeling like bragging about your roles . . .

Hey! Great idea! The studio I'm in is doing Mary Poppins (like the Broadway version not the movie). It's really fun. Except that we are doing Step in Time in tap shoes and the choreography is pretty hard and I haven't tapped sinse I was like 8... and supercalifragilisticexpialidocious is a totally different story...

Oh my gosh! The arts & science center that I act with is going to do Mary Poppins, too! I'm going to audition for Jane, but I don't think I'll get her... What part are you?

Cool! When do you audition? I am Robertson Ay, the Banks' footman servant boy who does everything wrong.

The auditions are in November. I haven't watched the Broadway version yet, but your character sounds awesome!

@Joss,

have you auditioned yet? When do you find out if you've gotten the part?

I'm in the ensemble for Little Shop of Horrors, and the guy that plays the Dentist is AMAZING!!! It's like he was born for the role!

I love acting!!!!!!! It's so fun! I've done a few plays, but I don't think I'll be able to do one this year- my school has different "talents", you see, and I'm not in drama talent (I'm in Creative Writing). Although I'm looking forward to watching it!

A list:

The first play I've ever been in was this cute little mini-play about Mother Goose poems. We performed for the Pre-Kers. It seemed that Mother Goose was some sort of therapist, and all these characters sent her letters. I was a cow. (After the show, the drama teacher asked them to tell us what their favorite part was, and a bunch of kids said the cow! I was so happy!)

I did a play called Fairy Tale Courtroom, also in fourth grade, where basically a bunch of goofy people tried the Big Bad Wolf and the Witch. I tried out for a D.A. (the person who protests against the tried) but I got the Witch instead, along with two other kids, and that was fun. Especially because I had two people to get my back. (Once I missed my cue... luckily they were there!)

That summer we did Hamlet in my theater camp, and that was fun, even though we only did one scene each. I played Queen Gertrude and a nameless pirate.

In fifth grade I was on stage crew for The Tempest. I wanted to be Ariel, but I couldn't figure out how to audition.

Luckily, I got my chance in sumer camp when we did The Tempest! That's probably my favorite Shakespeare play. I got to play Ariel, which was great fun, and I didn't miss any cues. :P

I LOVE acting. My middle school play is Law and Order Fairy Tale Unit. It's absolutely hilarious, and it has a lot of nods to fairy tales that aren't part of the main plot, which are really fun to find. I play District Attorney Stiltskin, and because gender is really flexible for most of the parts, I'm playing a girl. Which is kind of nice, because I've played a lot of boys. We don't have many boys in our drama program.

My school is very small, so if you audition for drama, you are guaranteed a part, if only an ensemble part. I've been doing it since I was first allowed to join. My favorite parts were Chip in Beauty and the Beast when I was in fifth grade and Virginia in Yes Virginia, There is a Santa Claus in seventh.

@Regina That's so cool that you're in Mary Poppins! I saw it at a high school with a really good drama program recently. I love Anything Can Happen, though I have to say, the Playing the Game scene was weirdly creepy.

@Joss Good luck trying out for Jane! A friend of mine wanted to try out for Jane at a nearby theater but she was too tall.

Ffleddur says xmxt. Exit? Exit stage left?

There, I managed to turn that into a theater reference. :-)

@Sydney C, thanks! I go to a private school, but sadly, it doesn't have drama Cry
