"COME BACK!!!"

Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

"COME BACK!!!"

"COME BACK!!!" You cry tearfully as the dog wrenches his leash out of your hands. "COME BACK!!!" You yell again, soon realizing it's futile to yell any longer. That was your friend's uncle's friend's daughter's dog, and she had entrusted you complete care of him. You'd better start looking for him, then. As you call through the streets, you see a brown streak cross the road and head right for you! It's Marty! Except... what's that in his mouth?! It's the neighbor's cat! No, wait, it's just a cat-shaped note. Grabbing it, you unfurl it to see that it says,

"Do I get awesome mega-armor?" Puck asked eagerly.
"Um, no," the assistant replied sternly. It was armor-fitting time in the living room of the farm house. She measured Puck's waist, shoulders, and height. "You don't need mega armor. The armor we'll be giving you is going to be light but strong."
The farmer measured Spyro on the other side of the couch. "Spyro, do you want optional horn armor?"
"Heck yeah!" He answered with glee.
"How come he gets extras and I don't?" Puck complained.
"Because, he's a dragon, and you're not. That's just the way of things," replied the assistant promptly.
Puck sighed.
Joss went next, and then Shadow Dragon (who definitely got to have horn armor--and tail plates!), and lastly, Mortifero.
"Excellent job, everyone!" The farmer said when they were done. He looked at the grandfather clock and announced the time. "It's nine forty-five, folks. Let's get down to business!"
Gripping their weapons tightly, the CBers made their way to the front porch of the house. "Okey-dokey. A few of you and my assistant are going to go on a mission to the barn to give these to the dragons. A few others whom I will select are going to train animals for half the day, and then swap for weapons training. The last bit will train with their weapons and swap for animal training.
"Poetic Panda, Dragonrider, Shadow Dragon, and Crit--well, actually, maybe not. Rosemary will also go with them. And of course, my assistant will accompany you. Turgon, Mortifero, Joss, Critic A, and Princess Icicle will train animals first. Spyro, I'm going to be busy training the others with weapons; can I trust you to help your friends with their birds? There's a worker down there ready to show you your animals. We need to train them fast! All you who are left: Moonfrost, Puck, Over the Rainbow, Turgon, Rufus, Elsa, and Booksy Owly will train with their weapons with me. Okay, everyone, go go go! We have no time to spare! CAPTCHAs, how about you look out the windows and be our sentries?"
-------------------------
"Hurry!" Poetic Panda urged. Her group was sneaking down the driveway. And they'd seen something scary. A trio of lions, prowling behind the breedery. They couldn't have been seen by the CAPTCHAs from the front of the house.
Poetic Panda ushered her friends and the farmer's assistant to the front of the breedery. It was scary being so close to uncaged lions--especially those who had been trained by a murderer. Bravely, Panda peered around the corner of the large building. She saw a tail disappear behind the other side of the breedery, and motioned that the coast was clear.
It was evident that the training from the previous day had paid off; Panda, Dragonrider, Shadow Dragon, and Rosemary snuck across the field with liquid grace, easily avoiding being seen by the three large cats. Or so they thought.
-----------------------
"Come on, guys, let's get these warthogs saddled up!" Spyro called. A worker had kindly led a group of warthogs into the backyard training area--the fence in the back was revealed to be an animal training rink.
Spyro would have Turgon, Joss, and Mortifero give the warthogs grain while he, Critic A, and Princess Icicle tied old leather saddles around them. "We have to get them used to being controled," he'd explained earlier. "Once they know we're the boss, they'll listen to us. We won't ride them, but we can certainly tie ropes to their saddles so we can handle them easier."
Princess Icicle brought forth a whip on Spyro's command. "Are we going to whip these poor creatures?" she grumped. Looking at the muddy, calloused, rough-and-tumble hogs, Spyro didn't see how anyone could call them 'poor', but he still didn't plan on being cruel to them.
"Of course not! Not in that sense! But these guys are super tough and stubborn, and there's no other way to--you know what, how about you just wait and see what I'm going to do."
Spyro cautiously entered the rink. The rickety fence hadn't seemed like much of a barrier anyway when he was outside of it, but at least it was something. Now he was pretty much at their mercy. But he couldn't show fear. He had to be the boss. "I have an idea," he said. "Icy, go and get me some training dummies."
~ ~ ~
A few minutes later, Spyro had the warthogs begin a strict training routine. He told the others that he could train them by himself, and ordered a worker to retrieve some of the birds, and a few wolves, for his friends to begin with. Turgon seemed to have a pretty good hand with the wolves.
Spyro, over the time he was training animals with his friends, discovered an extremely effective technique to teach animals tricks quickly. His team utilized them all day.
-----------------------
"Thrust! Parry! Dodge! Sneak!"
The farmer shouted orders from the large stage in the middle of the backyard. The CBers had not been allowed to watch Spyro and the others train animals. They had to train, train, train! And already they were getting better. Moonfrost especially--somehow Jack allowed her to weild him with ease. She alrealy noted how he almost weighed nothing in her grasp, even though he appeared very heavy. ("I'm very fit, for a sword," he'd told her. "If you let me near some cheesecake, though, you won't think I'm so great. Just you see. I pack on the pounds just by smelling it.")
Over the Rainbow and the others with air weapons couldn't thrust, parry, or dodge, but they could sneak. All around, CBers shuffled silently through the training ground. When Puck stole a look at Spyro and his warthogs, she saw that they were already sheilding him on command. That's cool,  she thought. And since she wasn't looking where she was going, she tripped over Elsa.
"OW!" Elsa yelled dramatically. Puck glared at her.
"We're supposed to be sneaking!" she hissed.
"Well, we're not supposed to be looking at the animals," Elsa sniffed haughtily.
"Be quiet, you two!" The farmer said. The bickering AEs looked around and saw him listening intently. The animal training group had stopped what they were doing, as had the sneaking group of CBers. Puck and Elsa wondered what in the world they were doing. They didn't wonder long, for a few heartbeats later a voice broke the silence.
"Meeting! Meeting!! Meeting!!!"
The farmer leapt off of the stage and beckoned the CBers to go inside with him. As fast as they could, they raced to the living room where the farmer's assistant, Panda, Rosemary, Dragonrider, and Shadow Dragon were breathing heavily.
"The...murderer...has...posted...guards...everywhere," Panda panted.
"And...they aren't...friendly...either," Shadow Dragon wheezed.
"They...were waiting for us...after we went...after we went into the mine," the farmer's assistant finished, hands on knees. "I...fought them for a second as a...griffin, and...then we all shot up for the house," she explained. "Just thought...it would be...worth having a meeting for."
The farmer looked surprised. "CAPTCHAs, why didn't you warn us?!" He exclaimed.
"Nsee!" Cappy defended himself.
"He means they couldn't see them from the window," Joss translated.
"Hm. We'll need to be very, very careful when venturing outside. The murderer is enroaching--she is claiming more and more land for herself," the farmer said. "And since we didn't quite have a full meeting this morning, let's finish it now."
The CBers sat down at the dining room table and offered some water to their out-of-breath comrades.
"I have thought hard over the day, and I have noticed that a few of you have unique talents," the farmer spoke. "Spyro has an undeniable knack for training animals, and Moonfrost has an extensive knowledge of magical weapons and magic lore. I think that they deserve a promotion. Come up here, you two."
Moonfrost and Spyro sat up and met the farmer at his seat. "Spyro, because of your amazing talent and eagerness towards animals, you will become our official Head of Animals!" Spyro could hardly contain his grin. "Your talent is truly amazing," the farmer continued. "And I believe it deserves special attention. From now on, you can choose Chatterboxers to add to your team. I know you will do a great job."
The table cheered for their unlikely new animal trainer, who beamed as he took his seat. The farmer turned his gaze to Moonfrost. "Moonfrost, you show great knowledge of the magical world around you, and you are surprisingly able with a sword. I think this is a trait worth expanding! Moonfrost, from now on you are the weapons master. You will train the CBers how to defend themselves with their chosen weapon. You'll also be sent on field missions more often than not. Congratulations, to the both of you!"
The applause was even louder this time as the CBers cheered and congratulated their new officials. Hope spread through the table once more, and as the merriness died down the CBers found themselves smiling uncontrollably.
"This is not the end of the promotions!" The farmer announced. "As your talents become more obvious to me, there may be more than one more ceremony."
This sparked an excitement amongst the CBers. They'd work hard! They'd become officials! Or not, but they could still try!!! And since it was already noon, they fininshed the meeting over a lunch of chicken, rice, squash, and lima beans. First, the farmer's assistant relayed the details of the field mission, and how it was a success except for the startling fact that danger lurked everywhere outside the house. Then Spyro reported the status of the animal training unit, or the ATU, as he named it. After that, Moonfrost practiced reporting on how their training went, but she didn't really need to because the only ones who didn't watch the training session were those who had delivered the armor list to the dragons. The farmer rehashed their goals, and declared a new one: "We can not defeat the murderer unless she has less, er, minions. Soon I'll send out a group to capture some of the...dangers...that lurk outside the house. Now! Drink your mirabile and let's get to defense training!"

@Farmer's Assistant/Micearenice- This story is soooooo amazing and I'm really, really, REALLY glad that it has lasted so long and will be finished. I haven't been on the CB very much lately, but I remembered this and HAD to see what had happened since the last time I had read this. Once again this is AMAZING!!! It's super unpredictable and funny, I have laughed so many times while reading this! Thanks for making something so awesome, and keep up the good work!

P.S- did you get the idea for a talking sword named Jack from the Magnus Chase book by Rick Riordan?

P.P.S- A book I'd like to visit is 11 Birthdays (or any of the other books in that series) by Wnedy Mass.
