ART POSTING

(Subject not going through....Third time's the charm...??)

Art stuff thread starting...NOW!  If you draw stuff, you can post it here! I draw in a sort of anime/manga/toon style, but if you don't, don't let that stop you from posting your stuff!  I would love to see other people's art so post away!  They can be OCs, fan art, or just random stuff.  You can use any media, including digital, like I do!  Just to let you chatterboxers know, I started this thread so we can share our tricks of the trade with each other.  Feel free to: ask questions about how to draw certain things, post techniques, share art, and mostly HAVE FUN!  If you draw your OCs, feel free to share information about them such as their names and that sort of thing.  Same goes for fan art since not all of us know where these characters are from.  You don't have to be polished with your art.  I myself am just a beginner at anime/manga/toon.  I'm not good at hands so if any of my hands looks particularly cruddy, you know why.  I also struggle sometimes with feet so same goes for that.  If any of you know how to draw a particularly good hand or foot, feel free to share your trick for it.

Going to post a picture of my OC, Tuxedo, if this post goes through okay.

So, Spellbound got a How to Draw-type book for her birthday, along with a sketchbook and some really nice pencils, aaaaaand I used that all and ended up with the best drawing I've ever made! (If you could ignore the smudges & painful remains of the lips I redid that would be very much appreciated)

Wowwwww Luna, you’ve improved so much! I love that, actually. The eyes are very nice, and the hair is so pretty and flowy! If you’re looking for constructive criticism, I think you could maybe bring the eyes a little lower down on the face, and make the chin a bit longer/bigger? You could also think about the neck’s thickness in proportion to the head... oh, and maybe shade under the chin? I’m just nitpicking now, your art is actually quite lovely. Nice job!

Aww, thank you! Yeah, I've been bothered by some of those things (the lips/chin/neck seem of to me for some reason), but I'm a little too nervous to touch it again in case I end up destroying it somehow. XP I might try to touch up a bit later though.

@Spellbound Wow, you really like how I draw braids? Ok, if you'd like me to teach you, here's a tutorial!

Step One: Create guidelines. In this case, it would be two diagonal lines like the ones shown in the example.

Braid tutorial step 2: Add lopsided heart shapes like the ones in the example. They'll get bigger near the top of the braid, and smaller near the bottom.

Step three: add diagonal lines down the center of the braid sections.

Step 4: add the "ponytail" at the bottom of the braid. Make sure to break it up into sections, maybe add some stray pieces sticking out. You don't have to copy the way I did it though. Also, if your character has very curly hair, there will definitely be some stray curls escaping the braid, so now would be a good time to add those in.

Step 5: Ink and color! This step is optional, of course, but if you do decide to do it, you could consider thickening the lines where the braid sections intersect. If that makes sense. You can probably see what I mean by looking at the example. Oh, and it's worth the effort to add lines for the individual strands of hair, like I did! You don't have to do it, of course, but it does make the finished braid look pretty cool.

uhmmmm...wow, I'm new to this thread. (5,212 posts!?)

I like drawing manga and other stuff so I guess I'll just post...

This was a spinoff from a drawing in one of my Chris Hart books (I tried to draw a ponytail which failed horribly but turned into a nice enough braid.)

Another sketch, mostly random (a little inspired by Rohan motifs from LotR)

Just popping in to compliment people--

@DoodleGirl, that's really good! I find that sitting poses are pretty hard to draw, so nice job on that. And I play ukulele too! What's your favorite song?

@Icy That's really cool! I like the shading, and the hair is really amazing! I love the little patterns in the hair. Is it digital? What program do you use?

@La'Crosse That's awesome! You have very pretty handwriting.

@Luna-Starr I know I mentioned how much I liked that, but I'll say it again-- it looks so great! Also, if you wanted to work on changing the things that bothered you about it, but you don't want to mess it up, you could trace it. If you don't have tracing paper, you can place it over a window (or an iPad!) so that you can see through it.

@Evergreen Wow, that's great! The braid is especially nice. I used to draw a lot of anime, and I have a couple of Chris Hart books. Which one were you using as a reference? That second drawing is really awesome, too. I love Lord of the Rings! I just watched the second movie last night, as a matter of fact. Horses are hard to draw, and you did a really good job!

I might post some art later-- my friend and I were drawing together over FaceTime this morning. But right now I just want to compliment all of you guys, y'all are great artists! Keep up the good work!

Danke!

It is digital; I have a drawing tablet, but since I haven't installed any of its setup on this computer, I do most of my digital art from my phone. The app is Ibis Paint X--it's a free app but also works fantastically. I'd reccommend it to anyone that has a stylus and some free time.
