ART POSTING

(Subject not going through....Third time's the charm...??)

Art stuff thread starting...NOW!  If you draw stuff, you can post it here! I draw in a sort of anime/manga/toon style, but if you don't, don't let that stop you from posting your stuff!  I would love to see other people's art so post away!  They can be OCs, fan art, or just random stuff.  You can use any media, including digital, like I do!  Just to let you chatterboxers know, I started this thread so we can share our tricks of the trade with each other.  Feel free to: ask questions about how to draw certain things, post techniques, share art, and mostly HAVE FUN!  If you draw your OCs, feel free to share information about them such as their names and that sort of thing.  Same goes for fan art since not all of us know where these characters are from.  You don't have to be polished with your art.  I myself am just a beginner at anime/manga/toon.  I'm not good at hands so if any of my hands looks particularly cruddy, you know why.  I also struggle sometimes with feet so same goes for that.  If any of you know how to draw a particularly good hand or foot, feel free to share your trick for it.

Going to post a picture of my OC, Tuxedo, if this post goes through okay.

Male WIP, possibly a new OC? Just felt like drawing more realistic. Tips and criticisms are most appreciated! <3

(Also, does anyone know where I can get legit art pencils and a real blending stump? I had to use Q-Tips for this T^T)

Looks super cool! I don't do much art myself but my mom's an artist and one of my best friends irl is too. Recently my mom helped me find a good present to give my friend because I wanted to get her art supplies. We got really nice art pencils at a craft store. I bet most craft stores would have them. You can find blending stumps online!

That looks seriously amazing! The blending is really good, and the shading on the nose is top notch. I'm impressed and you've only finished a tiny bit XD For criticism, I think you could move the ears up a little more, and possibly the eyes too. The head might also get a bit wider than it usually would be at the top and the forehead might be a bit too long, especially if you're adding hair; it might just end up looking a bit unbalanced. i also think that the lips could have more shadows/contrast. those are just a few thoughts :D

I second peri's advice, but also it's perfectly fine to just use household materials. I mean, to be honest, I only ever use kleenex for blending. maybe an acutal blending stump is way better (I've never used one) but i find kleenex works perfectly fine XD and I mostly just use "normal" pencils and an Prismacolor Ebony. Even normal pencils will have different hardnesses/darknesses to some extent. i think actual art pencils would probably make a bigger difference, considering how smooth your blending looks at the moment.

it totally makes sense to want legit art pencils and a legit blending stump, though. if you want something closer to a professional quality pencil, I'd suggest researching "best drawing pencils" and that sort of thing, and you can get them online. part of it's going to be personal opinion though. also, don't forget about the eraser, sharpener, and paper!! those are all equally or more important in my opinion; you can make up for a low quality pencil more easily, especially if you have nice paper, I think. paper in particular will vary depending on what materials you'll use and your personal preferences; if you mostly use pencil then maybe something like a Strathmore 400 series sketch (my current main sketchbook), but it's not great for ink pens since the paper is pretty thin and it doesn't have much tooth (which I like but you might not). mixed media paper tends to be pretty good. if you have a craft/art store near you, maybe you could go there and look in person, so you can feel the paper.

I'm sorry admins, but why didn't my images go through? (If its the writing on the edges of the drawings, that's my signature)

I didn't see any images with your submissions. Try again.

I made this drawing of a bell a couple days ago. I've never really done shading like this before and I'm excited! I would love any tips :D Also, does anyone have any ideas on how to draw not-too-detailed/complicated eyes? I've experimented with a lot of different things and haven't found anything quite right. Thank you!

Ooh, that's nice :) As a few tips, maybe there could be more contrast between the dark tone (the dark tone is the left of the bell) and the light tone (the highlight on the bell). In other words, you could make the dark tone darker and the light tone lighter, and put a middle color in between the two, to transition them. If you want to add more dimension, you could make the place where the bell curves a little darker, to show how the shape changes, but other than that, it looks good! I like the ringing/action lines on the side, and your signature is really pretty. Did you use charcoal, pencil, or something else?

Thank you so much!! That's super helpful and it's SUCH a good idea to make the curved parts darker, I never would have thought of that but it's perfect! As for what I used, just pencil :)
