Question...

Do any of you guys get nervous performing in front of people you are very close to, but not in front of a ton of strangers? For instance, I sometimes perform solos at my church, and I'm fairly confident in that, but at home, I don't feel nearly as confident performing solely in front of my parents and sister. Do any of you have this problem? If so, what do you do about it?

Thanks!!

Well... I get nervous doing anything around anybody. But in general, I... Well, I don't know. I've been in both situations. I find it hard to perform for my family with poems, or contest practices, whatever, really. But same for a crowd. I just recommend you do a few things:

1. Stare above their heads. Foreheads are the best. This way, it appears you are making eye contact but you really aren't.

2. Imagine they are wearing masks. Or, even better, envision them as dressed in something amusing, or are completely different people. I hear these all help.

3. Take a deep breath.

Good luck, I hope this helps!
