Instrument: I play the piano!

How long have you played: A little over three years.

What method you use to learn: I have a piano teacher. She's awesome! ;P I go once a week to get new assignments, and I practice over the week.

Pieces/Songs you are learning now: Right now I'm learning two duets, Away in a Manger and Up on the Housetop, to play with my sister, I'm learning Silver Bells (my Christmas solo), and for normal practice, I'm learning Melody in F, and Flying Solo, which you've probably never heard of.

Anything else you wish to say: Nope!

Here is my sheet

Instrument: Violin

How long have you played: 12 years

What method you use to learn: I play Suzuki method but it has morphed a bit now that I am past all of the books.

Pieces/Songs you are learning now: Flight of the Bumblebee

Anything else you wish to say: I also really love old time and Celtic fiddle music!

Instrument: The Pianoforte.

How long have you played: Oh... about 6-8 years. I forget just how old I was when I started.

What method you use to learn: By method, do you mean to ask which book system I use? If so, then--none in particular, just now. I'm flitting from sheet to sheet, from phrase to phrase.

Pieces/Songs you are learning now: I've been playing Arwen's Vigil by the Piano Guys. I don't think one ever stops learning a piece-- music is a living art, after all-- but this one is memorized and performed and devoid of most mistakes, so I suppose I've learned it. Insofar as I have.

Anything else you wish to say: All Chatterbox Musicians. You are keeping one of the most beautiful, truthful, expressive arts known to mankind...alive. Never stop.

Instrument: Piano!

How long have you played: Oh, geez. Five or six years?

What method you use to learn: I go see my teacher once a week and practice for twenty minutes daily.

Pieces/Songs you are learning now: I'm learning an abridged "Dance of the Flowers" for a performance we're going to do at a nursing home.

Anything else you wish to say: I brought up playing another instrument with my parents-- either violin or viola, I'm still deciding. What do you guys think?

@Saint: Between violin and viola, and considering your musical history, I would advise you to do violin. Yes, I am a violin player, so I probably seem biased, but there are legitimate reasons. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against violas. (I really hate those mean viola jokes.) The difference between a violin and a viola, instrument-wise is this: violin has G, D, A, and E strings. Viola has C, G, D, A. So a one-string difference, but that doesn't really matter, that's just some background info...

I think violin would be a smoother transition for you, because violins play in treble clef, which you already know from five or six years of piano. Violas play in a clef known as the viola clef or the alto clef, which as you know, is not typically in piano. At least, I haven't seen a piece in it yet...

If you started with violin, you wouldn't have to learn a new clef, so you'd be able to pick up more quickly, as opposed to violinists who are learning to read music. There's nothing wrong with starting out that way, it's just that since you already have an advantageous skill, it would be wise to use it.

Instrument: Piano

How long have you played: Since first grade, so what, 6-7 years?

What method you use to learn: My piano teacher uses the Alfred's piano books. My process of learning is- 1. Go over notes 2. Play hands separately 3. Put hands together, slowly 4. Practice until I get it.

Pieces/Songs you are learning now: I kind of just play whatever. I just finished my scale book, yay! In my lesson book, I am playing a song called Marmalade Rag, and I'm also working on The First Noel for a possible Christmas recital and Pachalbel Canon. Some other songs I play when bored are- All I Ask of You (from Phantom of The Opera), Edelwiess (from The Sound of Music), All of Me by John Legend, Hungarian Dances, Moonlit Snow (a lesson book song), and the Gilligan's Island theme song.

Anything else you wish to say: I had been playing a 70 year old, permanantly out of tune piano with two-three keys that wouldn't play until about five months ago. Now that we have a new piano, I practice a lot more, and it sounds a lot better!

Instrument: Clarinet (which I'm really awful at and don't practice nearly enough)

How long have you played: Two years.

What method you use to learn: Uh, we have band practice for 45 minutes in the mornings on Thursdays and Fridays. I don't have a method- I just practice whenever I get inspired (which sadly is not enough)

Pieces/Songs you are learning now: Lo, How a Rose 'Er Blooming and The Final Countdown. We finished working on the National Anthem last week.

Anything else you wish to say: I don't really enjoy playing the clarinet. It's okay, I'll do it, but... piano will always be more fun for me.

Another thing- I played the trumpet in fourth grade, then switched over to the clarinet. Brass did not fit me at all!

Instrument: Violin

How long have you played: Since I was 4, so 8 years.

Method: Suzuki (*note: I am only on book three, piece 6, so almost book 4, and I can't do vibrato.)

Pieces: Gavotte in G major, Devil's dream.

Other: I am pretty bad for eight years. It takes me about 2 years per book, except for book 3. I will probably be on the last piece in may, or sooner. Depends on recital times. I feel very frustrated often, and I sometimes ask to quit. The answer is no.

Instrument: French Horn

How long have you played: 3 1/4 years

Method: essential elements

Pieces: (this is for band)  Winter Wonderland, Invincible, Ghost in the Machine, Captain Couregeous, Believe (from the polar express), Potrait of a clown, Jingle Bell Rock (with Rockin around the christmas tree) + more to come.

Other: Most of these are boring. We play long dreary notes, with plenty of rests. Help meeeeee!

Ooh, I remember doing Devil's Dream. Once you get it down, it's fun to see how fast you can go. Watch out for string crossings, and use 4th finger whenever possible/practical. I started out playing way too many open strings, the once I used 4th finger it was easier.

What's the composer for Invincible? There is a very sad song from a game I play by the very same title.
