Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Poetry Contest

Poetry Contest

Well, we haven't had one of these in a while, have we? Time for a new one, I say! Welcome, resident poets!

The rules are pretty simple. I am the first judge. I will give you a theme, and you must write a poem relating to the theme. Be creative with your interpretations! I will then judge the entries by a set date, and the winner will then be the next judge, and set the next theme. And so on, and so forth.

The first theme will be... *dramatic drumroll*

Stars! Whether you chose to write about the kind of stars you wish on, or the kind that take the stage, I will be eagerly awaiting your sparkly, shiny, beautiful poems. Have them in by... Saturday, March 18. Two weeks. Sound fair?

I hope to see your poems soon!

Ahh thank you so much!! I wrote it last night on a whim, so I'm really glad that you liked it! Everyone else's were so amazingly creative, wow.

The next theme will be myth and judging will be two weeks from now, on the 30th. (hopefully no one's done that theme before recently; if anyone has please lmk so I can change it! last time I judged I picked a theme that had been picked before (by me!) so I'm not great at keeping track of this stuff lol)

Myth~

Sometimes I think we were a myth,

You and I,

A fable written in the days of old for the purpose of telling around a campfire and

Naming the stars, giant balls of gas in empty space,

Burning alone in the sullen night sky.

Sometimes I think we were a myth,

Remembered only as a twisted version of our perception of reality.

Sometimes I think we were a myth.

Nothing more.

Nothing less.

The great heroes of Greece and Rome lived only to die without a hope for first breath.

Sometimes I think we were a myth,

Words on paper,

So easily erased and

So easily lost, one tiny rip, one mishearing,

Could ruin it all.

Sometimes I think we were all just playing one giant game of telephone

And at one point our luck was sure to run out, what used to be love becoming

A thing uglier,

Mangled by our own voices.

Sometimes I think we were a myth,

A fairy tale,

A thing to live and hope and dream for without the gravity of reality

But never a part of reality.

A- ok welp Science time! Sorry that was a horrible ending... :/

-Myths

I love to delve into the worlds

Of legends long ago

To places where stories are many

Places I long to know.

I love to fly on Pegasus’s back

Soaring over the clouds in the blue

Spinning by Mt. Olympus

Seeing colors of every hue

Dodging chariots of messenger god

Sharing the sky with Aphrodite’s doves

And swerving the thunderbolts of Zeus

This is a myth I love.

It’s fun to swim beneath the ocean

Down in the deep

Soaring through the water with mermaids

Where pearl memories I keep

I like to stay in a dark, deep cave

Dragon’s sleep in there

Full of jewels and fire

In that scaly lair

Under the trees

With nymphs and gnomes

I love to explore

This forest home

Up in the mountains with griffins and phoenix

I like to collect feathers of fire and gold

Soaring above the rocks

Stories of old

Far away in Egypt’s pyramids

Or at China’s wall

Or in the Amazon’s forest

And at India’s Taj Mahal

Myths circle in my head

The past and stories become one

Turning into legend lessons

Full of learning, magic, and fun~

What Makes a Myth?:

What makes a myth?

It’s a story told throughout the ages

Of faith and history

Some parts may be lost to time

But never fully forgotten

Who decides to write these myths?

That echo throughout the ages

But we’re wiser

Us here, us now

Know that they’re just stories

Just beliefs

A hope

A dream

But still we cling onto them

What about our own tales?
Our family

Our friends

Do our stories fade out over time

Just because we have no poets, no artists

To tell our myths, our tales?

Because I’ve known

For ages now

That the hero, his monster to slay

The gods and goddesses above

And princess fair and just

Were just a dream

Of human perfection

Used to tell the tale of our world

Their stories don’t hold that same weight as before

But the people here today

Are real

Are here

All around you

They have words to say, tales to tell

Lessons to learn and give

So why let them fade away

Our stories have so much to tell

So if we just gave those around us

A chance to take the pen

Maybe things will get better

With time

Maybe if we give the reins to each other

Our stories won’t vanish once more

The Myth of Books

Unicorns, dragons,

Fantasy galore

Maybe a flying wagon, and of course

A bag of lore

It's hard to find what's true

And what is not quite so

But wait! Here's something new:

There's way more than you know

I don't know if it's an alicorn

Probably not treausure

But into this world was born

A new kind of pleasure

It's been here for forever

Not many people see it

But if you're extra clever

And promise you will never quit

You might just find that perfect book

And you're never turning back

A pirate with a hook

The Neverseen's attack

A garden with a secret key

A demi-god who didn't know

And if you can foresee

What it would be like if you go

I promise you it's worth your while

To open a book and grow

Okay maybe that was a little cheesy.  But it was so fun to write! and I'm pretty proud of it :}

A pirate with a hook

The Neverseen's attack

A garden with a secret key

A demi-god who didn't know

The best! you did AMAZIN <33

The Myth of Pandora

It was a small clay jar

Engraved with intricate

Designs, an alluring aura

To peek in, to open it

Oh, but didn’t Zeus say

Never to open this gift?

Yet isn’t it also all too

Tempting to resist?

After all, “What good is a

Magnificent box wrapped in

Golden thread if you can

Never open it?” So then

Curiously, you lifted the lid

Of the jar, and to see…

“Oh!” Sorrow, disease, death,

Violence, madness, greed…

Hasteningly, you rush to

Close the container, but

To no avail, they are out

No matter how tightly shut

But then, you hear a voice

Calling from inside the jar

Surely it can’t be worse than

What has been out so far?

You slowly lift the lid

And out flutters Hope

“For not all will be lost

There is a way to cope…”

(Note: Sometimes, Hope

Is translated as

Deceptive expectation)

Your poem is beautifully written! I love how you took the myth of pandora and made it 2nd person POV, it makes it sound more tragic yet bittersweet.
