Round Two of

Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Round Two of

Round Two of Art/Writing Contest!

Okay, for the contestants that made it through, here's round two!

Ack, sorry. I didn't mean to rhyme.

Okay, so the rules are all on the Round One thread.... So here's the directions for round two.

~~

The theme is...nature! Whether it's a legend about an ancient tree in the forest, or a story about a girl saving a baby bird. 800 words or less.

So, for the writer/artist instructions: the writer will write a story, and then the artist will illustrate a scene from it. And I'll eliminate one team this round.

Deadline is May 14th.... Go!

Yeah, could you take another picture? Just so I can see it better. It looks cool, though.

Looks great, Claaws! I like how the swirls make it more fantasy-looking.

By the way, since no one guessed: The unicorn symbolizes imagination and the light represents creativity. I wrote this story in protest of the school system, because I think it kills creativity. There are statistics, too: Kindergarteners scored an average of 98% on a creativity test, while fifth graders scored around 50% (I think). Or was it 40%? Anyways, the trees and other natural elements represent the fact that cramming a bunch of kids into a building and forcing them to memorize things (notice how I didn't say learn) is not the natural way our brain works, and that natural is best. The unicorn sees her visions in something clear, like a pond or a clear sky. I wrote that to symbolize how we need to clear up misconceptions, tell people that the school system isn't working.

I love symbolism, if you couldn't tell.

Oh! And I forgot! The eyes opening and closing represent how inspiration is born when we're young, but it's gone by the time we finish school.

Okay, sorry it took me so long!

For this round:

In first place is St. and Katydid. Amazing job, both of you! I especially loved the way you wrote the story, St., and the mountains in your picture, Katydid.

Second place is Mei and Claaws. I really liked the symbolism in your story, Mei. And the unicorn in your drawing, Claaws!

Third place is Inktail. Good work, Inktail! You managed to make it even without September. That story was so beautiful.

...And eliminated is Booksy and Esquire, mostly because they didn't ever post their pieces.

The 3rd round will be the last round. One team will win. I'll make a thread for it soon.
