Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

You're sitting on

You're sitting on your couch, reading a book. Its late evening, there is a fire crackling in the fireplace, and you can hear an owl hooting in the distance from your open window. You lean back into the cusions and sigh contentedly. But suddenly, there is a whooshing sound at your window, you jerk your head around and look. To your utter shock, a great horned owl sits on your windowsill, a letter gripped firmly in it's beak. It looks at you with its two large, black eyes. It then flaps its wings and flies into the room, right over your head, dropping the letter from its beak into your lap. It then turns around and flies right back out of the window. You sit in stunned silence, then quickly coming to your senses, you throw your book onto the floor and pick up the envelope. You open it, pulling out the letter.

Hallow's Eve Hotel Day , arriving-

Starseeker was sitting cross-legged on the front lawn of her house, suitcase in her lap, staring up at the star speckled sky, with her AZ Zoey next to her. The two had been there for about an hour, waiting on the 'transportation' to the hotel the Phantom's letter had promised. It had not been specific, but the pair figured they would send a horse and buggy thing like in the Haunted Mansion, maybe? A dragon? A portal? Starseeker groaned to herself, thinking about how long they might have to wait. It was then that a nearby frog began to croak, then its friend took up the tune, and before long there was a whole chorus of frogs croaking in the night. Starseeker lay down in the grass and closed her eyes. The beautiful stars, the chorus of frogs, the cool air, all was beautiful, and peaceful, and VVVRRROOOMMMCLAKKACLAKKA!! The frogs gave one last terrified croak as the air vibrated, and all of a sudden Starseeker saw two huge bright lights coming towards her over the trees. She scrambled to her feet, grabbed her suitcase, and along with Zoey, dove behind a tree right as the source of the two lights came roaring down and crashed in her front yard. She gasped at what sat in front of her.

"Well...it works I guess." Starseeker said to herself. There sat a yellow cab that looked like it had been through a war. The hood, the roof, and both sides of the cab were dented up, the car was completely rusted in places, and the windows were missing. The words New Jersey Transport were written, or had been written on the side, but had been partially crossed out, and the words 'Hallow's Eve Hotel Shuttle' now were painted over the previous logo. There were two girls around her own age in the backseat, both looking a bit on the nauseous side. Starseeker was a bit taken aback by the occupant of the front seat. There sat a pale, middle aged man. He wore a white button down shirt and vest that looked like it was out of the 1800's, long pants, and a top hat, all of which were the same shade of white.

"Howdy girls! I'm Jimmy, your shuttle driver to the Hallow's Eve Hotel." He opened the door and hopped out of the cab, taking Starseeker's and Zoey's suitcases and throwing them into the trunk. He then opened the back door and the two crammed in next to the two girls. Jimmy slammed the door, hopped back into the front seat, and cranked the ignition. The car's engine gave a squeaky whine, then roared to life. Or really half life by the sound of the engine.

"Now, hold on! It's going to get bumpy!" Starseeker and her three companions grabbed for their seatbelts, then grabbed the head rest, each other, or anything else she could find. The car gunned forwards, digging up dirt and grass.

"Look out for my house!" Starseeker shouted. All three girls screamed in terror as the cab bumped and bounced through the yard, heading directly at the home. But just at the last moment, the front end of the car began to lift up, then the back end. Starseeker started screaming even louder. The cab was actually flying. Literally, off the ground, over the trees, flying. Finally the cab stopped its ascent about three hundred feet above the treetops and straightened its flight. The girls laid back in their seats, their terror calming down.

"That was...wowzers." Panted Starseeker. Jimmy slapped his knee and burst out laughing.

"Those reactions never get old!" He then started to howl with laughter again. Starseeker rolled her eyes.

"I'm Starseeker, and this is Zoey. Who are you two?"

"Hi! I'm Elementgirl."

"And I'm Bookworm. Nice to meet you."

"That was...interesting." Said Zoey.

"And I've been in this thing for over three hours, not including picking up you other three." Grumbled Elementgirl. Bookworm tenderly patted Elementgirl's hand.

"So are you guys looking forward to the stay at the hotel?" Asked Zoey.

"Well I suppose. It got five stars, but that was in some weird Halloween magazine or something."

"I heard though they had an accident last year with some of the guests. Something about them getting locked in a dungeon?"

"Well that's just fantastic." Mumbled Zoey.

"Well, I guess we'll find out soon enough." Said Bookworm.

The ride lasted for about another hour or so. Meanwhile, Bookworm and Zoey played eye spy, (which was a bit hard in almost pitch black darkness) Elementgirl played music through her earbuds, and Starseeker contentedly looked out the window at the passing scenery. For awhile they flew over small, residential areas and small towns, then the residences turned into a house here and there, then fianlly it turned completely into woods. All of a sudden Starseeker felt the taxi slowly start to descend.

"Alright gang, we're approaching the castle now. This part is always the trickiest and most bumpy, so hang on!"

"Ooooh shoot." Said Starseeker under her breath. The four girls once again grabbed whatever was nearby and put it in a death grip. Starseeker glanced out her window again. Off in the distance, she could see the dark outline of the hotel. It was a huge, stone built, legitimate medieval castle, out in the middle of the woodlands. The treeline was cut off in the front of the castle for about five hundred feet, which Starseeker figured was where the cab driver would try to land. It was not going to be an easy landing. Suddenly the car lurched downwards, causing Starseeker's stomach to fllip. The occupants in the backseat all let out a scream as the car descended rapidly towards the treetops. Limbs began to beat the bottom of the car. Then all of a sudden they were over the forest and were flying over the lawn, hurtling towards the castle. Jimmy slammed on the brake and whipped the wheel, causing the car to drop even faster (screaming). The crached into the ground (scream),bounced up (scream), and then slid to a screeching halt. The rear door gave a samll squeak and promptly fell off.

Sorry guys i must depart, an emergency has come up involving...a zombie squirell? Okay, now I've heard everything. I'll finish later!

Day One Continued...

Starseeker and her traveling companions pulled themselves out of the car, which now looked more beat up than ever. Bookworm had to put Zoey's arm around her shoulder to help her out. Jimmy o the other hand, seemed absoloutely elated. He hopped out of the car and stretched.

"Aaah, there's that old beauty!" He exclaimed, holding his arms out towards the castle. "Welcome to the hotel, kids!"

"Uuuuugh."

"Mmmmrrr."

"Ooowww."

"Are you okay, Jimmy? After that crash landing its amazing you're uninjured." Asked Elementgirl.

"Sweetheart, I've had more crash landings than a blind goose! Thats one of the advantages about being someone like me, you don't got to worry about nothin' hurtin' me, cause I'm already dead!" Jimmy burst out laughing again, slapping his knee. "This is where I leave you girls. The front door is just stragiht ahead. Go and bang on hte door, and it will open up. Then go down the first hall on your left, then take two rights, a left, another left, one more left, then turn around and go back aways, then take a right, and that'll take you right to the dining hall. Oh, and also make srue to try the frog fritters. Now THEM some good eatin' right there. Enjoy your stay at the Hallow's Eve Hotel!" With that, Jimmy's form blurred, and with one more booming laugh, he disolved into mist and dissapeared.

Bookworm pointed at the hotel. "Grrblemrph-glbenshwitt-meep." That was all that needed to be said.

******

The dining hall was almost identical to the one you might see at Hogwarts. There were two long tables running the span of the room. At the end there was a large stone podium, and huge ornate windows overlooking the forest behind the castle. Huge chandeliers hung from the ceiling, castign a bright light over the diners, providing plenty of light, and meal orders were taken by ghosts in waiter's outfits, an teh meals were brought out on platters by small green goblin lookign creatures. At first it was weird for Starseeker to see all of these strange creatures walkign freely around, but soon got used to it. She even liked it. Starseeker, Zoey, Elementgirl, and Bookworm, all sat together at one of the tables next to some of the other guests, talking and laughing together. They were almsot done with there meals, whe all of a sudden....

KAPOOOOW!!! There was a huge explosion that came from the stage. Everyone jumped in their seats and looked towards it.  There, standing in the midst of the haze, in all of his grandeur and weirdness, stood The Phantom himself.

"WELCOME MY FRIENDS, TO THE HALLOWS EVE HOTEL!" he called out into the crowd. Everyone erupted into cheers. "Thank you, thank you! Now, I will now give out room assignments." The Phantom reached up his sleeve, pulling out a scroll. He then flicked his wrist, causing the scroll to unroll dramatically. "Let's see, mhm, mhmm,  ah yes, here we are. Room One will be, Leafpool, Pepper Star, Kate-The-Great, Zoey, and Joy. Room two will be, Mudge, Cilantro, Bookworm, Starseeker, and Kitten. Room three will be Jarnen, Sopranotwo, Lilycat, and Cockleburr. Room Four will be Zoey, Elementgirl, Tahki, and Willow. Acitivities will begin first thing tomorrow. GOOD NIGHT FRIENDS!"

With that, The Phantom disappeared with an explosion and the vacation at the hotel officially begun.

@Everyone, if I have forgotten someone, LET ME KNOW. I accidently deleted part of my guestlist. I tried to rewrite it, but I could've gotten it wrong.

Day Two-

Kitten woke up with a start and sniffed the air. Oooo breakfast! She thougth to herself. She quickly got up, put on a pair of dress robes she had brought, and threw on her invisibility cloak. Now invisible, she went around to each of her roomates and start poking them until they woke up. Mudge took a little longer than the others, and eventually Kitten had to go into the bathroom, find a cup, fill it with water, then come back a dump it on Mudge. With that, Mudge woke up ith a squeal.

"Ghosts!" She yelped. Kitten chuckled sadistically, taking off her robe. Mudge growled, throwing her pillow at her.

********

The five friends walked together downstairs to the dining hall and got their breakfast. The were serving fresh cockatrice eggs and bacon (no one asked where the bacon came from), with raisin toast and scream cheese.

"So what do you guys think we'll be doing today?" Asked Starseeker.

"I heard someone say soemthing about a corn maze." Mused Bookworm. "Mudge, what do you think? Mudge?" Mudge wasn't paying attention to the conversaton. She was bent over her plate, staring at her food, very focused.

"Whatha looking at over there, Mudge?"

"Hmm?" Mudge said, looking up. "Oh, nothing." She looked down at her plate again. "Is it just me, or does the bacon look like its twitching a bit?"

Everyone glanced down a thteir plate and shook their heads. "Eh, probably just the light." Mudge mumbled.

"Oh wow! Look out the window!" Someone shouted from the crowd. There was a series of gasps and cheers as everyone looked. There, right out in front of the window, a huge, red, scaly dragon was hovering. It looked insiude at the gueasts, let out a roar, and then flew out of sight. Right on cue, there was another explosion, and The Phantom appeared in a a cloud of purple smoke on the stage in fornt of the window.

"GOOD MORNING FRIENDS!" The Phantom called out. "As you are probably thinking, what is a dragon doing flying around here? Well, the answer to that question is the activity we have planned today. We're going dragon riding!" Everyone cheered and applauded. "Now, when ready, please meet me on the front lawn and we will get started!"

Mudge looked back at her plate one last time ad let out a yelp. Her bacon had inchwormed its way off her plate and was trying to crawl away.

********

A few minutes later, everyone was assembled outside. There were about seventeen dragons, each about twelve feet in length, all lined up on the lawn. One for each guest. There were four different species of dragon for each of the four rooms. One type was  the kind that they'd seen this morning. Red with a tannish chest and stomoch, completely covered in alligator like armor, with four legs and two larrge, batlike wings and small, round horns running from its snout all the way down its back. Smoke drifted up from its nostrils. The next down the line were about the same lenght, but were bright turqoise with black stomachs and long white spikes all over its back. They were a bit on the bulky side and had short, wide wings. Occationally they would open their mouths and cough out what looked like snowflakes. There were also longer, thin dragons with six legs and two sets of wings. These were a dark gold color, and weremore serpentine with longer snouts. The last were two legged, purple and black striped dragons with huge wings. They had two small eyes pointed forwards on its large, round head, close to its snubbed snout. It had two tusks sticking out of side of its face.

"Here, we have four different types of dragons for each of our rooms, and one dragon per person. We will send out each room separetely for airspace purposes. Each room will participate in a different activity and type of flying based on what on what type of dragon you are riding. Room one will be riding the Double-winged Lightninglider." He waved to the purple and black dragons. "Room two will have the Shortsnout Shadowflapper." The elongated gold colored dragon. "Room three will have the Spiked Frostspitter." The blue, snowflake barfing dragon. "And finally room four will have the Nubbyhorned Flamelicker." The red dragon. Each room will be participating in a different activity based on their species of dragon. After we saddle and bridal the dragons, we'll get started and meet back here by sundown. Have fun!"

***********

Kate-The-Great gripped her reins tightly as she flew through the air. She was leaned over her dragon, wind blasting agaisnt her body. Her serpentine dragon whipped and twisted through the air, intent on speed. They were flying over a large river, cliffs surrounding them on each side, cutting right through the woods. Room one had traveled with their dragons (along with a ghost to instruct them on riding) to the valley about five hours ago, and since then had been learning basics on flying. Rein work, riding position, commands, etc. After they had done that, their instructor had taken them to the valley, and after some discussion, the room agreed to a race. The race would be a thirty mile race through the valley, trhough the river's end into a lake, tehn from there, they would race over the woods back to the hotel, take two laps around the tallest turret, then fly back to the start of the race. They had just started the race.

"Come on, we're cathcing up to them!" Shouted Kate to her dragon. She could feel the dragon's muscles flex under her, then the dragon flapped its wing even harder, launching them forwards. They were just ahead of Leafpool and Joy, even with Pepper Star, and Zoey was just ahead. They flew down through they wide valley, ducking and didging obstacles. Kate steered her dragon along, gaining slowly on Zoey. She steered her dragon aorund a randomly pertruding boulder and around a bend in the valley. They were right on Zoey's tail now. Kate made her dragon loose a little altitude, now only twenty feet above the water's surface, her dragon flapping as hard as his wings could. All of a sudden, a shadow passed over Kate. Startled, she looked up and let out a startled yelp. Zoey was glaring down at her and steering her dragon straight down on top of Kate's. Kate quickly pulled back on her reins, making her dragon slow down and letting Zoey fly ahead of her. Zoey laughed and gave the princess wave to Kate. Kate gave a wry grin, slapping her reins. Her dragon surged forwards again, placing itself right behind Zoey's dragon again. Kate tried to pass Zoey a few times, but every time she did, Zoey would block her. But suddenly as the two of them were having their mid air battle for the lead, there was a flash from Kate's left, and Pepper Star's dragon pulled in front of both Kate and Zoey. Kate slapped her bridal in frusteration.

Zoey leaned over her dragon's neck and slapped her reins. All of a sudden they flew out of the valley and over the lake. Kate looked over her shoulder and saw Leafpool and Joy quickly catching up to them. They were now at top speed, flying low over the water, spraying it up all around them. It was almost a mile long stretch of lake, which they covered swiftly. Kate looked ahead and saw the treeline of the woods getting closer, so she and the others, (now all in a tight group now) flew upwards and over the trees. Just then an idea sprang into Kate's head. She once again slapped her reins, again, directing her dragon under the Zoey's. Once again, Zoey looked down, and steered her dragon downwards, and once again Kate slowed her dragon down and let Zoey get in fornt of her, but as Zoey was still losing altitude, Kate jerked the reins to slow down, but then flew upwards at a forty-five degree angle, flying above Zoey, barely missing the top of her head. Kate then flew in front of Zoey and then dropped in front of her. Kate turned her head and waved back at Zoey. Zoey stuck her tongue out.

The next obstacle was the hotel itself. It loomed over the forest, casting a dim shadow over the trees. They approached it swiftly, and all five of the group successfully made it around the castle's turret and started making their way back towards the lake. But suddenly, out of nowhere, there came a huge roar from behind them. Kate looking behind her and almost fell out of her saddle. There was a sixth dragon now in the race, but it was completely unlike ay of the others. It was a almost neon shade of green, its body was three times the size of the others, and it had six muscled arms and a set of huge wings.  its green, pupilless eyes gave off a dim glow s it stared at the group. It opened its mouth again, and let out out another roar.

"FLY DOWN! FLY DOWN!" Joy screamed. Everyone heeded her advice and steered their dragons downwards right in the nick of time. The dragon spat a huge ball of flame into the air right above their heads, just off target.

"SCATTER!" Shouted Kate. Everyone scattered, trying to get away from teh beast. The dragon chased them, spitting fire, almost killing Joy and Pepper Star, who both managed to get away. They kept flying away from the creature in separate directions, which confused it for a moment, until it locked onto one target. Pepper Star. The brute flew off after her. She tried to lose him by flying in a zigzag around the castle's turrets, but the creature kept up with her. He was opening his mouth to blast her, when all of a sudden there was an flash and an explosion. The green dragon roared and jerked sideways, its side smoking. Then the air was filled not only with room one's dragons, but also room four's. One of the Nubby-horns that ws being ridden by them had shot a fireball at the green dragon and narowly saved Pepper Star's life. Room one followed suit, turning their dragons around and into the fray. The green dragon snapped at its assailants and launched fireballs at them, but couln't seem to hit his mark. They flew up and down, weaving in and out of the beasts range. But all of a sudden the beas t lashed out with his tail, crashing it into Elementgirl, sending her and her dragon plummetted into the ground. The green dragon reared its head up, opened its mouth, and was about to deliver teh killing blow, when one of the red, Nubby-horned dragons and its rider flew directly in front of its face.

"Willow, NO!" Elementgirl from the ground, but it was too late. Willow had placed herself in front of Elementgirl, who was laying on the ground next to her injured dragon, watching in horror as Willow put herself in bewtween the green dragon and Elementgirl. Willow's dragon shot one last fireball directly into the green dragon's open mouth. There was a huge explosion and the otehr dragons were blown backwards, though they recovered before their riders fell off. When the smoke cleared, the green dragon had fallen into the forest, smashing through the trees. He lay on his back, unconcious. The two heroes, Willow and her dragon, were nowhere to be seen.

R.I.P. Willow.
