April Poetry

April Poetry

April is the month of poetry, so I think we should have a thread to celebrate poetry.

I'm writing a poem everyday for the month of poetry. I challenge you to join me! You don't have to write one every day. You could write one every week, or just when you feel like it. But I challenge you to take notice of poetry for the month of April.

Post poems here! You don't have to write them, but post your favorite poems here. Share why you love them, and what they mean to you!

This thread is all about sharing poetry in April. It doesn't just have to be for April either, by any means. But lets start here...because, where better to start than the here and now?

Here is the poem I wrote today:

April poetry day 4

Spider

Spider, Spider,

Build your web

One string at a time.

Moving forward

Steadily

Up, up, up, you climb!

Daytime

Butterfly, flying,

Fire, dying,

Flower, growing,

Arctic, snowing,

Love, blindness,

Friendship, kindness,

Floating,

Twisting,

Gloating,

Whistling,

Sunset,

Darkness,

Sleepless,

Starless,

Moonshine,

Coastline,

Silence.

My mind is blank

and so is this page

And I envy those

who can get their thoughts down

without a thought

This is sort of an ironic poem, because I had serious writer's block today. :P

Okay, so this happened a while ago, but the total solar eclipse last summer inspired me:

Eclipse

People are gathered to watch

Through funny glasses and cereal boxes

The sun and the moon cross

And the sun is a crescent

Darkness grows before our eyes

I look down at the

Shadows

No longer a perfect reflection of the world,

Trees have crescent leaves

And people are long and skinny

Suddenly I hear crickets

It looks like it's almost night-

And it is, in a way

A few stars come out

Someone starts a countdown

Ten, nine eight

Seven, six

Five, four

Three

Two

One

And we whip off our glasses

And gasp

And gape

Because where the sun should be,

There is only darkness

A huge, awe inspiring black spot

Two minutes of pure, raw...

Beauty? Darkness?

It is beyond words, beyond pictures

Something connects inside me,

And I am moved

Suddenly, a glint peeks around the edge

I stare at the "Diamond Ring" for a minute, then

Reluctanly replace my glasses

But although the sun slowly comes back

I will never forget that moment,

That alein darkness, that wonder of nature

That awe-inspiring moment

That eclipse

Wow, this poem is very inspiring! That's awesome that you got to see the total eclipse. Where I live, we only saw part of it. But at least we saw it! My cousins weren't able to see it because of clouds. Anyway, nice poem!

Thank you so much Silverwaxwing!! That means so much to me!! :)

Window Dance

Light falls down through the glass,

Dancing rays on linoleum,

Branches brush the light,

Back and forth,

Back and forth,

Dancing kitchen shadows,

Made by dancing trees,

Sunlight

Seeping through in intricate patterns,

Impressive patterns,

Never recreatable,

Or are they?

I wrote this last Shabbat (Shabbat is the Jewish Sabbath)

Glass Candlesticks

I light

The beautiful glass

Candlesticks

Flames flickering bright

They dance to a song

That only they can hear

Friday night chatter

As we sit around the table

Is made jollier with this dance

Lower

And lower

They drip

As we grow tired

And as we sleep,

They burn no more

They are sleeping too

But the next morning

The beautiful glass

Candlesticks

Throw tiny rainbows

Around the room

Wakening again with the sun's light

They are dancing still

Wow, Shy Peacock! I really love the smooth rhythm in this poem as I read good. Good job on this amazing poem!

The first two lines are from a Latin text about Margaret of Beverley. I wrote this in history. :P

Lone Wolf

Perhaps one day among the pasture

a wild wolf attempted murder

and through the breeze

and wildflowers

he prowled and preened

among fallen leaves

left all the sheep

unredeemed

The soft green grass

was crimson stained

a wild wolf

unrestrained

sang to the sky

a lonely song

for he didn’t know

where he belonged
