Musicals of all

Musicals of all shapes and sizes!

I love them SO much!  My favorite modern ones are Wicked and Thoroughly Modern Millie.  My favorite classical ones are PROBABLY Sound of Music, Annie Get Your Gun, Peter Pan, and... Anything Goes.

What are yours?  And if you have any thoughts, trivia, etc., on musicals (even negative ones) let's OPEN THE DISCUSSION!!!  Because I really like talking about musicals. YAY!

OKAY.

Sound of Music was probably one of the first ones I ever saw. I recently saw the live recording of Newsies and am OBSESSED. Found a bootleg of Tuck Everlasting and I love that too. I want to see Wicked, but I haven't gotten the chance to yet (recording in 2019?!) and I also want to see Hamilton. Oh, I got to see The Lion King when it came to my state as well. That was really cool! :D

Oh. My. Gosh.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

I love musicals. So much. So, so much.

I love all the ones on your list. I could go on about all of them, especially the ones starring (Queen) Sutton Foster (meaning Millie and Anything Goes). My personal favorites are big, over-the-top shows like Les Mis and Phantom Of The Opera. Also (in no order) Hamilton, Sound Of Music, Into The Woods, Newsies, The Addams Family The Musical (yes, I KNOW that that last one is weird) and Fiddler On The Roof.

Are any of you in shows right now? I'm in Shrek The Musical Jr as the Ugly Duckling.

And I have to go now. I'll write more later. TOP!!!

Ooohhh, Phantom of the Opera!

Do you have an ultimate favorite song from any of the musicals?  That's pretty neat that you're in Shrek!

I love all musicals! My favourites are Hamilton, Les Miserables and Matilda. I also love, Shrek, The Sound of Music, Wicked, Annie, Oliver, Singing in the Rain, High School Musical, Greece, Annie get your gun, Oklahoma, Fiddler on the roof, etc. Basically every musical in history. I'm currently auditioning for a part in Cinderella, and I recently played young Fiona in Shrek the musical.

@Elementgirl, it's so cool that your in Shrek, too. What's your favourite song?

I haven't seen many musicals, but I don't consider myself a huge fan. I should probably watch more. I did, however, listen to the Hamilton soundtrack, and it's pretty cool. And of course The Greatest Showman was definitely excellent.

I just always imagine if life was like a musical. Imagine if, at every emotional or important moment, everybody suddenly burst into choreographed song and dance. It would be both awesome and hilarious. XD

Having a horror movie soundtrack would be convienent though. "Hey, let's check out this section of the cave!" DUN DUN DUN. "Wait, let's not."

And I just went off on a tangent again. Anyway, can you people recommend me some musicals?

If you're looking for one that has been made into a movie that you can watch easily, Sound of Music is my favorite.  Most of the other really good musicals have been made into movies, too.  If you're looking for good soundtracks, Annie Get Your Gun with Bernadette Peters and Peter Pan with Mary Martin (It is not the Disney one) are my two favorites.  And if you want a longer list, there's South Pacific, My Fair Lady (with Julie Andrews), West Side Story, Anything Goes, The Lion King, The King and I, Singing in the Rain, Phatom of the Opera, Wicked, The Music Man, Mary Poppins, Newsies, and Annie, to name a few. If you liked Greatest Showman and Hamilton you'd probably like Wicked especially. (I don't really know, I'm just guessing >.<)

Since that's kind of a lot, what I honestly recommend doing is to just turn on Pandora with a showtunes station ;).  It's a good way to find your own tastes without buying or listening to one specific show that you might not end up liking anyway.

I agree with you about the horror movie bit.  And background music would be great for other things, for example you could tune someone out until the music either started to swell or went quiet.  Then you'd hear the important bits only XD.

I wouldn't entirely oppose spontaneous musical numbers, either...

Why has nobody mentioned Dear Evan Hansen yet? It's amazing!

Oof, my obsessions with Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen went... to the next level. I mean, it was scary. I’m currently doing the opening monologue from DEH in my acting class, and the two most likely musicals that my school is doing next year are Bring it On (which I recently saw at my friend’s school) and Newsie, both of which I would be incredibly excited to work on. This year we did Les Mis, which was amazing, and next year, because all of the seniors will have graduated, I’m hoping to score a part. My favorite musicals are Hamilton, DEH, In the Heights, Come From Away, Les Miserables, and Wicked, and I also like Newsies, Once On This Island, Be More Chill, Waitress, Rent, Matilda, Once, School of Rock, Bring It On, and probably more that I’m forgetting about. As you can see, I am a major theatre nerd.
