Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Fiction is story. It’s a world. It’s a someone. It’s alive. It’s “something inventedby the imagination or feigned specifically : an invented story” according to Merriam-Websters.

I am the fictionalist, inventor of all untrue stories, writer of all books, producer and screenplayer of all movies and TV shows.

Most of all, I am imagination.

Rows of toys are laid out in front of you on a table, three men from your nation behind. They are searching for someone special. You reach for a toy --

You clutch your mother’s hand, scared. A woman is about to reach into a bowl, a paper drawn out of it in her stiff, pale hand. Your older sister stiffens and a name is read --

A magical castle looms over head. You look towards the sky with wonder, and it's sprawling, magnificent-- nervous new students in black robes whisper --

There is fear in your friend’s eyes as you are instructed to run, no time to explain, you do -- and spot the monster, whom you formerly had mistaken for just another mortal, chasing you --

And much, much more.

Warning: If you hate spoilers, this Ski Lodge is not for you. Yes, it is a Ski Lodge; a Ski Lodge filled with fictional characters. There will be spoilers, I will tell you that right now. However, I will try to remove some of the bigger spoilers and change details (and big things, too). I will also give a spoiler warning at the top of each part, including what books/seasons they are from, and if you really don’t want to read the part you can say so and why and I will attempt to rewrite it.

P.S. You may try to guess who I am and I will reveal myself pretty quickly -- I have already basically said who I am, so that shouldn’t be too hard. Also, sorry if this doesn’t make it very far -- I am really bad at committing to things.

There is a thin line between fiction and reality. Remember that.

Day 1, Chapter 1:

Spoilers: none

Fourteen people were standing in a semi circle next to a white brick wall. They didn’t know how they had gotten there, but they had, and the strangest part? They didn’t question it, at least not yet.

Dreamiing had been writing part of a poem that she never wanted to share.

Wreeboo  had been drawing.

Twilight had been immersing herself in a YA novel which she was getting really into.

But they brushed off those thoughts.
The wall was about 30 feet high, and, as Luna-Starr noticed, it was not in fact a wall. There were windows in it -- it was some sort of building.

“Where are we?” she wondered. “Last thing I remember I was brushing my teeth, and now we’re here . . .” The CBers looked around. Behind the group was a vast meadows, green and bright, like something from a fantasy world, with the occasional dandelion blooming. The sky was spotted with only a few clouds, but mostly clear and blue. The CBers noticed that they had (sometimes color-changing) backpacks and in a couple cases suitcases.

Three people were jogging towards the CBers. As they neared, their silhouettes started to become clearer and more distinct.

“Hello!” shouted Sammy, making some of the others turn. “Where are we?” The group of three strangers reached the CBers.

The stranger in front was a girl with reddish brown hair done in two braids, a few freckles, and abnormally large, pointy ears. She wore practical looking clothing and a backpack was slung over her shoulder.

“Hi.” She said, stopping about ten feet away from the CBers, panting a bit from her jog. Her face was serious, in contrast to the others, both of whom looked like they were trying much too hard to be serious.

“You are here at The Campus, where all fictional characters originate, and where they have now been brought into what you guys would perceive as reality.”

The Cbers murmured to each other, confused and not sure what was happening. Then Quill spoke up.

What do you mean, ‘what we perceive as reality?” they asked, their forehead creasing.

“I’m not sure,” she said, apparently loosening up slightly.

One of the boys next to her looked like he was trying ridiculously hard to keep his mouth shut. His hair was brown and spiky, even in length throughout. He squirmed as if the effort of keeping quiet was too much to bear.

“Yes, Max-Ernest?” the big-eared girl asked tiredly. Max-Ernest? That was a strange name.

“I tried to explain it earlier, but, you know, she didn’t really understand.” Said Max-Ernest. His voice was nasally and he spoke very quickly. “There are different perceived levels of reality -- much more philosophical than scientific, really, so it doesn’t make any sense and we don’t actually know if they exist, but The Fictionalist seems to know --” He continued speaking even though no one appeared to be listening.

“Anyways, I’m Cass,” said the first girl tiredly. “This is my friend --” she gestured over to the third member of the group, who nodded cooly.

“ Yo-Yoji.” Another strange name. Yo-Yoji’s dark hair was swept in front of his eyes, and his most noticeable feature was probably his bright, neon yellow sneakers. Dreamii couldn’t help but stare at them.

“I’m Max-Ernest!” Max-Ernest piped up. “We are supposedly “fictional characters,” except we’re not actually fictional, we were real all the time -- well, I suppose not all the time considering there was a time before any of us were born, although I suppose the atoms that make us up now still existed, but -- you get the point -- Or I think you do, I don’t actually know though, of course, since I’m not you, but yeah.” King of run-on sentences.

Cass shrugged. “Anyways, welcome to The Campus or whatever. I won’t make you give me your bags, of course.”

“You should loosen up, man,” said Yo-Yoji.

“What do you mean? I’m plenty loose! They probably just want their bags so that they are safe.”

“Safe? From what?” Silver Crystal piped up.

“Never mind,” said Cass with a sigh. “But, just so you guys know, something’s been up. I’m not sure if we are supposed to talk about it, but when we invited you here --”

“Invited?” asked Twilight. “I don’t remember being invited.”

Cass sighed. “That will be explained to you later. But anyways, just warning you, things aren’t quite as they are expected right now.”

“Yeah, “ added Max-Ernest, “Some of the characters or whatever you would call them even though they are actually real have been --”

“Max-Ernest!” Cass snapped. “I said we might not be supposed to tell them. Max-Ernest blushed.

“Oh. right, sorry about that.”

“Okay, well, follow me.” Suddenly, the words “The Campus” sprang up on the wall. Very informative of the wall after Cass had already said that.

“There was an entrance here,” said Cass explanatorily as the CBers walked with her, “But it was blocked, so we have to go around. There are four, but now three entrances -- this place is basically a big outdoor courtyard, surrounded by four wall-like building with a bit of space in between. For security purposes, which I do respect but also seem like a serious safety hazard, all doors are inconveniently places so that they must be accessed through the courtyard, a serious hazard, so we have to walk around for awhile now. Once we get there, I’ll take you in and we can find the Fictionalist.”

Kitty Cat jogged ahead. “Who is this “Fictionalist?” You keep mentioning?” They asked curiously.

“Creator of all fictional characters. But not just the characters. The stories or whatever.”

“So,” Kitty continued, “Do you only exist in another universe or something? Or did your story only exits in sort of ways? What story are you guys even from?”

Cass tightened her lips. “Oh, we exist in this universe, I can assure you that. I can’t tell you what story we’re from, though. It’s a secret.”

Eventually, the group reached the cpot of the wall-building thing which slowly curved, where it ended, and another, identical building started about 20 feet away. The wall-building was about 40 feet thick. The CBers came into the courtyard, and gasped at what they saw, but didn’t have much time to appreciate it. Cass, Max-Ernest, and Yo-Yoji led them to a door, which the CBers went through.

Day 1, Chapter 2:

Spoilers: The closest I can think of to a spoiler is an accessory change, so I’ll say none.

The CBers were awestruck by what they found inside the building:

Shifting colors coated the walls. No, not coated; that would imply that they were just a normal layer of paint, thin, flat. Instead, they seemed to take up off the walls, as if by magic, but at the same time, they weren’t there at all. Sometimes they were more blocky, like a hive or like gems, sometimes ombre-like. The floor was carpeted with swirling designs of dragons, people, magic, and story. Dreamiing made herself dizzy by starting at it for too long, while Sammy admired a part of the wall that was currently very similar in shade to her hair.

The three who had guided the CBers here decided to stand back and watch, letting them take their time, although Cass pointedly checked her watch.

Darkling decided to check out one of the small-ish square windows that covered the walls of the building. She remembered how they had thought it was a wall which she almost laughed at now. There were bigger windows too, to the outside, but, funnily enough, these smaller windows did not appear to lead to the outside.

Darkling, peering through, was filled with wonder at what she saw: a room, filled with tiny dragons (dragonets?) In colors ranging from pale orange to maroon. Their wings were tiny, and the room appeared to be a place for them to practice flying; they were jumping over each other, fluttering occasionally, and a few slightly-larger looing ones were at the top doing some sort of obstacle course. The floor was padded with a lush red carpet in case the dragonets fell.

Wreeboo shoved her out of the way, muttered some apologies, and stared through the windows. She squealed with delight at how cute she thought the baby dragons were, her deep brown eyes wide and fixed firmly on them.

“There’s lots more to see,” said Cass, looking slightly amused. While the CBers had been busying themselves Max-Ernest had joined them in admiring the place, while Yo-Yoji was purposefully acting nonchalant.

“We should get going,” Cass continued. Luna and Silver Crystal managed to pry Wreeboo off of the window together.

“But -- the -- dragons!” Wreeboo moaned.

The group of 17 rounded a corner in the hallway that they were in, and saw a shabby-looing man scurrying across the hallway. His name tag read “Remus Lupin.”

“No way. Is that --” Luna said, staring at Lupin, who walked off.

The CBers were led through a series of halls, doors, and rooms, each equally fascinating as the place where they had entered, filled with colors. Kitty Cat struck up a conversation about music with Yo-Yoji, learning that he had had a band called Alien Earache, thus the logo on his shirt, when he had lived in Japan for a year. All the while, Max-Earnest talked nonstop, sprinkling many “How ‘bout that?”s through his speech. Wreeboo’s cute animal “sensitivities” were activated again when the group past through a room with nothing but a glass cage with a bearded dragon.

“Aww,” said Wreeboo sympathetically. “He is so cute! Why is nobody here to take care of him?” She leaned closer to read the label on the habitat. “Stan.” Stan stood up on his hind legs and waved. This time, Quill was the one who had to pry Wreeboo away and to the next room, where something exciting was going on.

What is the most suspenseful, intense sport which takes the most focus and has the most people cheering behind you, plus the highest stakes if them all? Arm wrestling, obviously -- which was exactly what was happening in that fateful room.

Two people, facing off, with people cheering for them on both sides, and aliens too, apparently, in the case of one of them. He had white and black hair, an undercut, a square jaw, a scar across his nose, and a prosthetic robot arm. It didn’t connect to his shoulder like most prosthetic robot arms; instead, it made up only the forearm and the connection to the rest of his body was invisible, but nevertheless, that is what he was using.

The other was a woman about twice as big as him (and the first dude was tall). Okay, maybe that was an exaggeration. Still, she was big. She was probably seven feet tall, or maybe more like, eight, and maybe 2 or so feet wide. These were the CBer’s best estimates, at least. The giant woman wore silk robes which covered most of her except for her face and arm, (a normal, non robot-like but quite muscled one). They were in varying shaded of indigo, drooping over her in many layers of silk. She seemed to be wearing lots of jewelery, but she wore it . . . strangely, to say the least, as if she had mixed up what part of the body different pieces go on.

The CBers instantly took sides.

Morning, Darkling, and dreamii, decided to cheer for the silk-clad woman.

Bakerloo, Moonlight, and Silver Crystal, decided to root for the man with the prosthetic robot arm. Honeybee and Quill grabbed each other, the suspense being too much. Sammy, Luna, and a couple others decided to not root for anyone specifically but to just watch, either silently or cheering loudly. Kitty Cat seemed to always be rooting for whoever the underdog was.

“I was made for this,” said the robot-arm man. “Literally.”

“Yeah, well I made you, Shiro,” said the other. “You don’t stand a chance.”

Usually, arm wrestling matches aren’t too long -- see, they can feel that way due to so much suspense but they are generally less than a minute.

This match was an exception, and the CBers were forced to bite their nails for a full few minutes, until finally, victoriously, the scarred man prevailed, slamming his opponent’s fist against the table.

At least I didn’t end on a cliffhanger. Also, sorry that so far the pacing of the writing has been slow; hopeful it will speed up sooner. I am planning to post a part about once a week.

If you have not yet submitted your sheet, please do so! I beleive the people who have not yet are Bakerloo, Moonlight, Honeybee, and Morning, but I could be missing someone.
