Hello, musicians?

Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Hello, musicians?

Hello, musicians?

So, what instrument(s) do you play?  Do you sing?  Are you involved in a chorus or an orchestra, or both?  How long have you been doing your musical endeavors?  Do you have a musical family?  What songs are you playing?

I have played violin for going on four years.  I used to play recorder, lyre and wooden flute and I used to sing in a chorus.  Currently I am in two orchestras, a school one and another one composed of retirees and homeschoolers like myself.  The last one is about to have a concert.  We are playing Concerto Grosso in G major by Handel, Blue Tango and Syncopated Clock by Anderson, Heartsong and Last Spring by Grieg, and a composition by a lady in the group.  And my family isn't very musical, except my brother who plays guitar.  He used to play electric but now he just plays acoustic.  When he played electric our neighbor about four or five houses down the street could hear him!

So, I know you're out there musicians and singers so please post!

And musical Admins if you are interested!

Great thread, Amy! Thanks for including we Admin. I've played violin since I was 9 (too many years to count), was in orchestra and choirs all  through school and now play in our community orchestra. We have a concert on May 7. The program is Fanfare from La Péri, Finlandia, Bruch Violin Concerto, and Beethoven's 7th. My whole family is involved with music, many different kinds.

This is a great thread Amy!

I know this is pretty common, but I play the piano. I've been doing so since grade 1. (And I have to do my exam on the first day of camp!) For my school, you get to choose band or drama once your in grade 5 and start it in grade 6. I'm doing band and I'm asking for Alto Sax, or Flute *winks at Smile* or Clarinet. But there are rumours that the music teacher is mean so I might switch to Drama.

I got a ukulele! :) I can pretty much play any chord and can read most simple tabs.  It's quite easy.  Basically all my favorite musicians play the uke, so I've found a ton of songs that sound good on it (guitar songs sound pretty sweet on it too, though).  There's something about it that really makes me happy.

Ukeles are so cool!  I really love their unique sound.

I love ukes!!!  I would play mine, but the bridge broke and I'm really upset about that.  They are pretty easy to play, but they sound so good.  I used to play uke while my mom played the guitar and it was so fun.  Then my bridge broke :(  Oh well, at least I can get it fixed! :)

Aww, that's too bad. :( If it was a cheap ukulele, it might just be cheaper to buy a new one than to get it fixed.  Haha, mine's REALLY cheap.

You're very musical, Vida!  Are the bells hard to learn?  It might be a while before I see your answer because I am going away.  But to all musicians, keep practicing and you might find yourself heading in the direction of Carnegie Hall!  (Remember that old saying your teachers and parents tell you to get you to practice?)

Actully I play the bells on a keyboard!! It's not really that hard! All you have to do is listen really carefully and make sure the bells sound right! It's really easy!!! You should try it!!!

Thanks, Vida!

Keyboards are interesting.  I like how you can make them sound like anything you want.  I sometimes sing in the shower, when I know that nobody can hear me.  I write songs, but sometimes I make them into regular poems because I have trouble making a tune that is 'good enough' in my mind.  What kind of songs do you write?

I write what is on my mind!

Here are the lyrics to a few of my songs, hope you like!!

Have you ever been through something that changed your life

Have you ever been through somethin' than changed your life?

Have you ever been through somethin' that left a mark?

Have you ever been through somethin' that you won't forget?

Will you ever go back?

Can help to think what happened was so powerful?

Can you see how far you've come?

Will it help to see you came this far for something?

Have you ever been through somethin' than changed your life?

Have
you ever been through somethin' that left a mark?

Have you
ever been through somethin' that you won't forget?

Whoa Whoa yeah!!!

I hope you liked that one! What inspired me to write that was last year my mom was in rehab for a long time!!

My name is Rachel. I used to play the piano but I quit about a year ago because I kept forgetting to bring my books to my lessons. I want to learn how to play the penny whistle. Yes, I sing in my state choir, I sing in the junior choir at my church, and of course I sing when the Christmas concert comes along for my school. I played piano for a little below the 3 years mark. My dad sings a couple songs, my mom sings, my sister sings, and I sing. Also my mom played piano, my sister plays piano, and I used to play piano.
