Wicked!!

Well, I just got back from San Francisco where I was there for a guide dog function (for those of you who don't know, I raise guide dogs for the visually impaired).  We flew home from the east coast getting home around midnight, then the next day drove up to the San Francisco area getting in about 1-1:30, then the next night *drum roll* saw Wicked!!  It was fantastic!!  When it was in LA (where I might have seen it), I wasn't too aware of it and so never saw it.  After hearing about it a lot on here, my friends have been telling me how amazing it is, so when my mom saw that there were tickets open for the performances up in SF, I jumped at the offer!  I had also just bought the soundtrack so I knew almost every song and was mouthing the words during the whole performance. :)

So the cast included Marcie Dodd as Elphaba, Alli Mauzey as Glinda, Cliffton Hall as Fiyero, Jody Gelb as Madame Morrible, Paul Slade Smith ad Doctor Dillamond, Tim Talman as the Wizard of Oz, Deedee Magno Hall as Nessa, Etai Benshlomo as Boq, etc.  Marcie Dodd was amazing with such a powerful voice and great acting and Alli Mauzey got the character of Glinda out there perfectly with a beautiful voice as well!

"Defying Gravity" was amazing and was a perfect spectacle of Marcie Dodd's talent.  I also found myself crying at the end with "For Good" and the "Finale" with the ending as it was.  I love "For Good" and that's the one song I believe is fully memorized while the other songs are somewhat to mostly memorized.  Anyway, it was all amazing and the set just blew me away!  During "One Short Day" the whole stage was full of flashing green lights and costumes and it was all so... green!  ;)  In the words of Elphaba and Glinda:

Glinda: It's all prim,

Elphaba: And it's all green!

Both: I think we've found the place that we belong!

I also loved Marcie Dodd's vocals in "No Good Deed" and the duet with her and Cliffton Hall in "As Long as Your Mine."  Of course, "Popular" was great and left the audience laughing.

So I want to thank those Chatterboxers that introduced me to Wicked, because it was a great experience!

Ooh!  I'm so glad you made a thread about this.  I also went to see Wicked in San Francisco in June, and of course, it was amazing.  I was obsessed with Wicked long before I saw it, though, so I already knew all the songs by heart.  Which I actually kind of regret, because being so used to the soundtrack's versions of the songs (especially with Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, who are AMAZING), I would notice when they changed a note or sang a rhythm a little differently.  But it was still absolutely incredible.  I loved everything about the show.  It's coming to Orlando in February (I think), so I'll get to see it again (hopefully, if my parents let me)!  Who else on Chatterbox has seen Wicked?

I saw Wicked in Chicago when I was in high school. I actually preferred the actress' voices to Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, but that was probably just me! -Admin

@Allison: Yes, same with me.  I noticed when maybe Marcie Dodd sang a note was slightly different than the way Idina Menzel sang it or the way Alli Mauzey said something in a slightly different way than Kristen Chenoweth.  And I agree, it was still incredible.

@Admin: Yes, I know this may come as a bit of a shock, but when I first heard Wicked, I liked it, but it took me awhile to get fully warmed up to it.  Like certain foods, the style is an acquired taste, and after listening to it for awhile, I began to fully appreciate it.  And yes, it's funny how everyone compares each person to the OBCR, but they all do it differently and each person can have a different preference! :) :)

@Leaf:  I agee with you about warming up to it.  For instance, I didn't like Defying Gravity all that much when I first heard it, but now it's my favorite song.  Wicked's songs are definitely unlike other musicals'.

@Allison: Oh yes, Wicked is such a unique musical, and that's why I like it.  The songs are so great, but they also are packed with so much deeper meaning.  (I just got back from a friend's where we talked and sang Wicked a lot. :D)  Now I'm listening to "As Long as You're Mine," which is so beautiful and has such a great rhythm.  I like songs with a good beat and the there are plenty of those in Wicked! :) :)

Definitely.  I don't think there's a song in Wicked I don't like (obviously I like some more than others, but I love them all).  There's also not a song I don't know by now, so my friends have become used to spontaneous outbusts of Wicked songs.  I'm one of those people who's always got a song stuck in my head, so my friends are actually used to spontaneous outbursts of any songs.
