Ravenpaw-

the small black she-cat dropped into the hunter's crouch and began to stalk forward. But after a couple of steps, she fell over with a thud. "Oops! Sorry!"

Jaymist-

"That's okay. you were too low. It's like this." Jaymist crouched down,the weight on her back legs. and haunches s if ready to spring. She stalked forward slowly, then stopped, then pounced on a stick. She pretended to kill it. "Now you try, Ravenpaw."

Ravenpaw-

 She did exactly what her mentor did. "Can we try it for real now?"

Jaymist-

"Of course."

Ravenpaw-

The apprentice scented the air, then dropped into the hunter's crouch. She stalked silently forward, watching where she placed her paws. But she fell again, making too much noise and the vole she was hunting dove for cover."Aww, I missed it. I'm too clumsy. I'll never be a good hunter."

Jaymist-

"That's not true! You're new at this. Of course it's hard. I had the same problem. Now, can you tell me why you fell over?"

Ravenpaw-

"It was too much for me! Stalking, crouching, scenting, watching where I put my paws,making sure I was downwind was too hard for me to do at once!"

Jaymist-

"I understand. Then let's break it up- you can stalk and crouch well, so let's just do that while scenting the air. don't worry about anything else."

Ravenpaw-

She crouched, then crept forward with her mouth slightly open so she smell her prey. All the while, she was going upwind and crunching on leaves.

Jaymist-

"Good! Now just watch where you're putting your paws. Don't stalk, crouch or scent the air. 

 Ravenpaw-

She did just that perfectly.

Jaymist-

"Great! Now, put those two things together."

Ravenpaw-

She dropped into the hunter's crouch, then stalked forward with her mouth slightly open. She made sure her paws avoided leaves and sticks. But still a twig snapped under her paws.

Jaymist-

"Try again."

Ravenpaw-

She did the same thing again, except she was perfectly silent.

Jaymist-

"Great job! I think you're ready."

Ravenpaw-

She scented the air, then dropped into the hunter's crouch, crept silently forward with her mouth slightly open. She made sure her paws avoided twigs and dead leaves. She stopped just before her prey, then pounced and killed it with a swift bite to the neck.

Jaymist-

"Amazing! You can bring that to the camp fresh-kill pile. Tomorrpw you can go on your first hunting patrol!"

Ravenpaw's eyes gleamed with pride as they padded back to camp. She dropped the fat mouse on the fresh-kill pile, then went to the apprentice's den and curled up in her nest.
