Percy Jackson: Book,

Chatterbox: Pudding's Place

Percy Jackson: Book,

Percy Jackson: Book, or Movie? Lots of people tell me that the movie was AMAZING. I agree that it was good for a movie, but not good because they got hundreds of facts wrong, and I'm not exaggerating. So here you can say what you like or dislike about the book, or like and dislike about the movie. And remember: EVERYONE'S OPINION IS IMPORTANT! DON'T MAKE ANYONE FEEL BAD JUST 'CAUSE THEY THINK THAT LOGAN LERMAN IS A HORRIBLE ACTOR OR THAT RICK RIORDAN SHOULD GO TO WRITING 101!! (I COMPLETELY DISAGREE WITH BOTH BTW) SO BE KIND!!!!!!!

Good: Book

1. Wonderful writing skills, Rick explains everything so amazingly!

2. You could really picture where they are, what the situation is, and how the character is feeling.

3. Wonderful Characters, I love them <3

Bad: Book

1. CAN'T THINK OF ANYTHING BAD!!!! AND I NEVER WILL!!

Good: Movie

1. Good actors, <3 Logan <3

2. I love the way that Camp Half-Blood looks

Bad: Movie

1. Like I said before, a gajillion facts wrong:

    a. They don't have the scene where Clarisse get's drenched in toilet water.

    b. Honestly, Annabeth's hair isn't brown.

    c. Annabeth has gray eyes!!!

    d. Luke captures the flag, Percy has a patrol near the creek.

    e. They don't go directly searching for the pearls.

    f. Grover isn't as confident.

    g. The kids are middle schools. Not high schoolers.

    h. They didn't have the St. Louis Arch. That took up like 20 pages.

     i. They didn't have Ares' backpack.

     j. They didn't have Ares' scene at the diner in Denver.

    k. They didn't have 'The thrill ride of love' at Waterland, Denver.

     l. They didn't have the whole part when the were on the train.

    m. Percy didn't get the correct Oracle prophecy.

     n. Percy stayed longer at Camp before going on his quest.

     o. They didn't already know that he was the son of Poseidon.

     p. He got claimed during Capture the Flag.

     q. Capture the Flag is at night.

     r.  Grover can't drive.

     s. They use public transportation.

2. Really, you could have chosen a bunch better choices than the music that you chose.

I'll try to think of more stuff later.

While I will be the first to admit that the book has many flaws, it at least was (most of the time) accurate concerning the original myths. By which I mean: What on Earth was Persephone doing in the Underworld during summer in the movie? The reason we're supposed to have summer is because she's not in the Underworld then. *shakes head* Seriously, if you can't be true to the books at least be true to the myths the books are based on, ye ken?

Although if it comes to that, Athena in the books was shown as having kids, and she is supposed to be a virgin goddess. So I dunno.

Good point ZNZ, but Rick did explain that with the whole 'brain child' thing, though you're right, she is a virgin goddess.

My loooooong list of everything wrong with the movie (major and minor):

1. Percy, Grover, and Annabeth are in HIGH SCHOOL, not MIDDLE SCHOOL! Which makes it even weirder that....
2. ...all three of them somehow know how to drive?
3. Percy does not appear "troubled" at all. He's just like, "OMG, I have dyslexia. I have ADHD. Man, I hate my life."
4. Mrs. Dodds is supposed to be Percy's Algebra teacher, not English teacher!
5. Percy doesn't go to boarding school.
6. In the museum, everyone is supposed to have no idea what's going on.
Instead, Mr. Brunner says, "That was real. This is a weapon. Enjoy." (Or
something along those lines.)
7. There's no Nancy Bobofit.
8. Thalia's tree isn't mentioned!
9. Percy is supposed to slay Mrs. Dodds with the pen sword thingy.
10. Percy automatically finds out he is a son of Poseidon.
11. PERCY'S CABIN HAS NO WALLS.
12. There's no Clarisse. So instead....
13. ....they made Annabeth like Clarisse for the first part of the movie.
14. Grover is a ladies man.
15. Annabeth plays against Percy in Capture the Flag.
16. There's no Mr.D/Dionysus.
17. No pinochle scene!
18. Percy instantly believes that everything he is told is true.
19. The fight scenes are incredibly noisy because all the participants are yelling "HUH! HUH! HUH! HUH! YA!"
20. Percy walks into the water, and his wounds heal. THAT'S NOT HOW IT
WORKS! In the book, Percy walks in the water, the wounds heal, he walks
out, they come back.
21. Chiron says, "The first team to slash the other team's flag wins."
Percy picks up the other teams flag, BUT NEVER SLASHES IT WITH HIS
SWORD! (I might have misheard this one...)
22. Percy doesn't consult the Oracle.
23. Most of the movie consists of Percy yelling "What is this place? What am I doing here?"
24. Percy, Annabeth, and Grover don't ask Chiron's permission before leaving.
25. Instead of a hound invading the camp, Hades appears in a fire and spews fire at everyone.
26. Percy's eyes are messed up.
27. Annabeth's hair is messed up.
28. Nobody gets nervous because Percy is the son of Poseidon.
29. The entire quest is to save Percy's mother, and the lightning bolt just so happens to be along the way.
30. THE PEARLS! The entire movie is about finding the PEARLS. In the book, Percy got them from a naiad.
31. No bus explosion! No three Furies! (Random song break: The Furies on
the bus say: "Where is it? Where is it? Where is it?" The Furies on the
bus say "Where is it?" And then the bus explodes! Sing to the tune of
"The Wheels on the Bus.)
32. "Aunty Em" doesn't give Grover, Percy, and Annabeth milkshakes and burgers to make them sleepy.
33. There is a random woman at the garden gnome emporium.
34. Percy runs around stalking Medusa with a smartphone.
35. You don't have to say "Maia" for the flying shoes to work!
36. Grover never wears the flying shoes.
37. No scene with the Chimera at the St. Louis Arch. Instead, they go to the Parthenon in Nashville.
38. Annabeth appears to have no hard feelings towards her dad. In fact, Annabeth's mortal family is never mentioned.
39. There are Christmas lights up on a house in Nashville. During summer.
40. No Iris-Messaging; instead, Luke is contacted via webcam.
41. There is a Hydra. In this movie. There is a Hydra in this movie. There, I said it. That isn't even in the book!
42. Percy never meets with a naiad.
43. No Ares. Which means....
44. ....no water park scene (which would have been hilarious)....
45. ....and no Ares vs. Percy fight scene at the end of the movie.....
46. ....and no "Kindness International Humane Zoo Transport".....
47. ....and no backpacks full of drachmas and cookies and other things (including a helm of darkness and a master bolt).
48. NO PINK POODLE!
49. The entrance to the Underworld is in Hollywood, not Los Angeles.
50. No water bed shop scene.
51. Charon is not wearing an Italian suit.
52. Charon is not African-American or another dark-skinned race. (I
think the book mentioned something about Charon's "chestnut-colored
skin". Maybe I'm mixing things up.)
53. There is nobody else on the boat to the Underworld.
54. No scene with Cerberus. In fact, no Cerberus at all.
55. No scene by Asphodel Fields.
56. No scene by Tartarus.
57. It's the summer solstice....AND PERSEPHONE IS IN THE UNDERWORLD!!! That is NOT correct at all!
58. Hades has no skeleton guards.
59. The helm of darkness is not even part of the plot.
60. Grover stays in the Underworld instead of Percy's mother.
61. Luke has not been driven by Kronos to do his evil deeds. In fact,
Kronos isn't even mentioned in the movie, except at the museum.
62. Luke is gaming at Camp Half-Blood, which is illegal.
63. Luke dies at the end of the movie. (Yeah, and they're making a Sea of Monsters movie...)
64. Zeus is waaaaaay too generous.
65. There are more people in the room besides Zeus and Poseidon. (In the book, there were only two gods in the meeting room.)
66. Poseidon isn't wearing khakis.
67. Percy doesn't mail the head of Medusa to Olympus. So....
68. ....Percy's mother doesn't turn Gabe into a statue.
69. Percy doesn't face the decision to stay at camp.
70. Grover expresses no desire to go hunt for Pan.
71. Everyone is wearing long sleeves. In the summer.
72. After the long explanation about gods and goddesses not being able
to contact their children, Athena comes up to Annabeth..and the praises
flow.
73. Poseidon constantly talks to Percy in his mind.
74. Poseidon semi-stalks Percy on his field trip.
75. Percy's mother can't get in the camp. In the Sea of Monsters book, Annabeth allows a non-demigod in by saying certain words.
76. The Lotus Casino is full to bursting. In the book, it's pretty much
empty, and there's a water park, bungee jumping, and holographic
building, amongst other things. In the movie, it just looks like any old
gambling room.
77. At the beginning of the movie, Mrs. Dodds never really comes across as evil at all...almost neutral or nice.
78. No electronics can be used in the camp because they attract
monsters....and did you see Luke's cabin? (which was basically a
tent....)
79. ...WHERE WERE THE CABINS?!
80. When Percy was using the winged shoes for the first time, where the heck did Annabeth get a Mac? I mean really?
80. Where's the scorpion?
81. I think there's even more I'm forgetting!
