Soul Surfer!

Has anybody seen the trailers for this? It looks good, and it's based on a true story too!

I saw the trailers and it does look pretty good, but I might be scared at the part when she is attacked by the shark!

You can always close your eyes! I did that when I saw Jaws and also in several parts of The Godfather. I just ask the person I go with to let me know when the violence is over. Or you can tell by the music.

According to my mom and several others, they will not show the shark attack, probably because it's A.Too bloody and B. distracting from the point of the film, which is to document the story of a person who overcame loss of a body part!

I've read the book, I really want to see the movie! I don't think that they'll actually show the shark biting the arm, seeing that it's PG. I don't know, though. Like Admin said, you could always close your eyes.

I'm looking forward to this coming out--it does look good, and I like AnnaSophia Robb.

I read the book about two years ago, so I'm interested to see how closely the movie follows it. Bethany (the girl, I forgot her last name) was involved in making it, so hopefully it will be pretty accurate.

I really want to see this movie! I heard its going to be a great movie!
I wish I could go to NYC and meet Bethony Hamelton (the girl the story is based on), Carrie Underwood, and AnnaSophia Rob.

I first heard of this movie on the radio, K-LOVE...

I just heard about this movie yesterday when I read an interview in the paper with Carrie Underwood.  Why do all the singers go into acting and all the actors into singing? I hope it's not cheesy and all "Oooh, follow your dream!!!"-ish. I don't plan to see it, though.

Exactly what I was thinking, MJ.  I'll probably see it... just because my friend wants me to go with her, but I don't understand why this girl is getting so much hype.  Not that a shark attack isn't interesting, because it is, and it's rare, too. But, seriously, there are plenty of people who lose limbs in wars and stuff that don't get their own jewelery line, book, and movie.  (Yes, she had a jewelry/clothing line!) And Carrie Underwood probably got the part because she's blonde... haha, well, in the preview, there were only blonde girls!  So I'm guessing they needed to go with the blonde theme.

She wrote her own book because she wanted to; it's an autobiography. She actually didn't intend for it to be read by so many people, it was mostly just for her to get over it.

I think she also gets so much hype because she is a really amazing surfer, and would probably be famous by this point even without the shark attack.

And you're right about all the blonde...I hadn't really noticed!

@Brynne: Oh, I didn't know that is was an autobiography.  I'm sorry I accused her without knowing.  It makes sense-- especially if she's that good of a surfer.  Anyway, the people who lose limbs in wars probably wouldn't make a very good movie (only if you like the violence and blood!) :D

My school has been giving away tickets to this movie, and I think they're trying to get a hold of a theater in the nearest movie theater for our school on tonight (opening night).  I wanted to go, but of course, I just happen to have a violin performance today. :) But I can ask around on Monday and tell you what people at my school thought of the movie.

Spamboy says: boxn.  Yes, you by tickets at a box office.  Good job. :)  Or are you boxing (boxin')?  Don't hurt anybody!

I think that they won't show the shark attack.

I just saw a commercial, and it's PG. If it's PG it won't have any of that gore and stuff of the attack.

Admin, what do you think? Do you agree with me???

Yes, I think you're right. I would imagine there are reviews somewhere that would answer that question for you.

Boxen! CSL FTW!

I read the book Soul Surfer. It was okay, but I didn't like it enough to see the movie, especially since I'm not very into surfing.

I was very interested to see how they make it look like the gal's arm is actually cut off from right under the shoulder. I saw that they put neon green tape all around the arm, to substitute for green screen.

I've seen Soul Surfer and I really liked it. For those of you who are wondering, yes, they do show the shark attack. Unfortunately, I was conveniently hiding in the bathroom during that part because seeing people in pain / getting hurt, etc. makes me feel sick, but my mom told me it was very clean. She said you see underwater veiws of her board and then it shows her and there's a flash of the shark and it bites her arm, but she doesn't scream and there isn't really much blood at all, just on her shoulder. Then her friend starts yelling to call 911 and that they need help, while Bethany (AnnaSophia Robb) just starts paddling to land, very calmly. Her being calm is what ends up saving her, basically. Apparently, the part I came back to was worse than the actual attack. They drive to the hospital with fabric pressed into her shoulder that turns red from blood, but it's not like spurting blood everywhere, it's just a red cloth on her shoulder. She doesn't scream or anything. They handled it very well, and I'd say it's completely fine to see.

Also, if you dislike "religious" stuff, just know that it's a Christian film. (and a verrrry good one, too!!) I would definitely reccomend seeing it!
