Eating bananas before

Eating bananas before performing

One of the mighty admins suggested this and I did it yesterday (after eating two or three cookies) before a piano competition. However, I ate it at 3:00-ish and I performed probably at 4:00-ish. But it worked! I think. I was pretty nervous, my hands were shaking, but that might have been because the other two people before me had played the same piece.

Anyways, in the comment sheet thingy, the adjudicatior (sp.?) had said that I had sounded very confident which is not true because while my hands had stopped shaking, my pedalling foot had not. But I got one mark below the third place mark, an 84 and an 85 is apparently a good mark, so I'd just like to thank the admin who suggested eating-bananaisms!

Has eating bananas or some other pre-performance ritual helped anyone else?

It was me, Olive! You're welcome. I'm glad it helped you.

Thanks, Admin!

You're welcome again. By coincidence, I'm baking banana cupcakes right now.

My sister did this yesterday before her Calculus test! I've done it before auditions and it works every time. :)

I think it's more likely to be the placebo effect than anything about bananas specifically, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't work! I ate a banana before a spelling bee, and I didn't win, but I did well enough.

What I was told is that the potassium in the banana has a calming effect. Bananas are high in postassium.

I think potatoes have even more potassium than bananas. Though it might be more pleasant for most people to eat a banana than a potato when you're nervous. I just can't really stand bananas unless it's baked in something.

Peaceing out for now,

Really? I do piano competitions, and I pretty much freak out before I play.  Maybe next time I'll try eating bananas.  And no, I don't really have a pre-performance ritual except going to a practice room and practicing like nuts. :)

Well, I think we started posting about the same time, and I remember that for a while she was one of only a couple people on here my age.

I hope she did well on her test!

This is random, but today I had a mini banana in my lunch. Yes, mini!

A mini banana?! What do those look like? I've never seen one before. :)

It is about half the size of a regular banana. I don't know how to explain it...
