Book cover illustrations!!!!!!!!!

What do you people think of them? I think that they're generally pretty inacurate. One of the editions of The Enchanted Forest Chronicles had TOTALLY HORRIBLE COVER ILLUSTRATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!! The illustrations for the USA editions of Harry Potter were quite ugly as well.  I tend to not judge a book by its cover, though I am drawn to hardcover books with mystereous designs and pictures of dragons and ancient seals.

I don't know anything about the Enchanted Forest Chronicles and I don't know what the US editions of HP looked like, but I also tend to be drawn to certain covers. :)

I like covers that, um, look sort of lomo-is? Like the cover for Cuckoo by Julia Crouch. I also like covers that have the main item and then a wide expanse of sky or wall or something like the cover for Pegasus by Robin Mckinley. And Matched (an awesome book by the way) by Ally Condie. Yeah...

I like book covers that show an illustration of a scene from the book. Like Choke, by Obert Skye, shows the scene where a dragon rips the steeple off the roof of a church. (Obert Skye is an AWESOME writer, by the way, for those of you who haven't heard of him.)

Another example of those covers is the book The Blade of Shattered Hope, one of the 13th Reality books, and it has an illustration of a scene where one of the main characters (AHH!!! I FORGOT HIS NAME!!) is being transported somewhere via magical lightning.

The Harry Potter 1-3 were UG-LY! Ugly Bird Uglee. The Fourth was a little better, and five through seven were good. Seven was the best.

Just about everybody judges a book by their cover. But that includes the front, the back, and the inside where you tell about the story. How else are you supposed to judge a book before you read it?

I agree w/ SC.

@Kim A: I saw some of Obert Skye's books before at the library and I think I know what you're talking about...is Choke the one with like a sea-green looking sky and the white dragon on the front?

The Canadian and/or Swedish covers of the HP books, on the other hand, are gorgeous. Especially the Canadian ones.

I love the cover art for the Discworld series. I'm more partial to the U.S., but the UK versions are so pretty and detailed too.

Some of the Redwall cover illustrations were pretty bad. I don't know, like the Pearls of Lutra one always made me wonder if I was looking at some sort of weird horse... -.-

Also the first Harry Potter book has a stupid-looking illustration. The one with him on a broomstick.

I like the covers for the Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel books. They are pretty.

They were pretty? They were gorgeous! That's how you spell it, right?

Michael Scott visited my school when I was in fifth or sixth grade, and I'm in eighth now, so that was when the Alchemyst and the Magician were in paperback and the Sorceress was in hardcover.

Gorgeous covers!

Spammy says dwnr. Downer? What's a downer? Have you not read the Immortal Secrets of Nicholas Flamel? Yeah, that is a downer.

Has anyone here ever seen/read The Missing Link trilogy? It's by Kate Thompson and the covers are super cool, both the U.S. and U.K. editions. Very mysterious looking.

I really like the cover of The Two Princesses of Bamarre.  The one with the drawing, not the photograph.

I've recently found Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater and love the cover. And the general feel of its paperback self. And the words inside it.

I am related to Maggie Stiefvater. I hope you guys can figure out what book my name is from. This is kind of a hint, but I LOVE The Secret Series by PB. I will be amazed if any of you know what book my name comes from. I am bored out of my mind. Any suggestions what I should do? Don't tell me to read, because I read through the sermon @ church and don't have anything to read.
