Barn Owl Rescue

Have you ever helped a wild or injured animal?

I loved Barn Owl Rescue! It's a great story.

And yes, I have helped a wild animal. Once when I was camping, I found a tiny wrentit chick on a trail, lying alone in the dirt, peeping softly. It didn't seem to be able to fly, and it didn't try to flee from me, which was worrying. My family and I were afraid that it had been abandoned. We lifted it up and took it back to the campsite, where it sat in a small box while we chewed up strawberries, oatmeal, and other food to feed to the bird with tweezers. Hours later, we had seen no adult wrentits nearby and our new charge did not seem to be healthier. We decided to try taking it to the nearest town and seeing if anyone knew what to do with an abandoned baby bird. As we put it in the car, however, the wrentit freaked out, peeped like crazy, and began trying to flap around. My brother scooped it up and it flew away, making the call of the adult wrentit rather than its signature "peep". My family likes to think that we gave the bird just the scare it needed to survive when we put it in the car.
