Do you have a favorite Kate DiCamillo book?

Going by Moss instead of Kyra G., just to let you peeps know. Anywho... I think the Tale of Desperaux was my favorite! I read it in second grade, and back then I thought books with 300 pages or more were legendary or something. Now I read those types of books a lot. Back to The Tale of Desperaux: I loved Desperaux's big ears :) I think I should reread it, because I don't remember much from it. Still a great book!

Kate DiCamillo is one of my favorite authors. I would guess I would have to say that Desperaux is my favorite book but I have also read The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane and Because of Winn-Dixie. My class read Despereaux in second grade and it's stuck with me ever since. I'm constantly quoting some line or another ("Kill 'em, even if they're already dead" has become the battle cry for one of the weirdest campaigns I have ever been a part of) and I've named a Rattata and a Raticate (two rat-like Pokemon) Roscuro and Botticelli.

Kate DiCamillo is one of my favorite authors!!! I loved Winn-Dixie (I read that when I was seven and saw the movie, like...every week), then the Tale of Despereaux (it is still one of my favorite books--will get to it later) and Edward Tulane (both my mom and I read it together, because our friend who's a third-grace teacher recommended it.) I also read the Magician's Elephant, but thought it was a tad too short and a tad too disjointed.

The Tale of Despereaux remains my favorite, however, because the characters--despite being mice and rats--are quite human and real. In fact, I think Despereaux and Roscuro are almost more human than the Princess and Miggery Sow--who began to annoy me by the end. But the story was really well drawn and mythological.

The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane was also enjoyable, but it was a little grown-up for the intended audience--too tragic, if you will. But Kate writes everything well, and weaves a delightful story.

Question. Everyone talks about The Tale of Despereaux. I haven't read it, but I saw the movie. No offence, but I really didn't like it. It kind of bothered me. Is the book really different from the movie?

It has been a while since I have seen the movie, but I think the book is better.

Okay, thanks Teresa! I might read it then. If I can find the time!

I've read Because of Winn-Dixie, The Tiger Rising, The Magican's Elephant, and The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. I will coment on each book separately.

Because of Winn-Dixie, I've got to read again because I read it a really long time ago and hardly remember it.

The Tiger Rising I remember touched me deeply and I really liked it. It also made me cry.

The Magican's Elephant, I remember reading while alterantly laughing my head off and crying. It was probably my favorite out of the books I've read by her. it was magical and meaningful. Some parts were also hilarious, which I like.

The Tale of Despereaux I read just a few weeks ago. I loved it! It has such wonderful meanings in it. Darkness and Light, Good and Evil. A really good book. About a really cute mouse. With really cute, big ears. I liked the movie, but it just wasn't as good as the book.

I truly commend an author who can make her readers laugh and cry and laugh, which I did while reading all of Kate's books. I like books that make me cry, because it's usually because I've been touched so deeply by it. Books that make me laugh are wonderful too. They fill me with bubbles, if you know what I mean. Which you probably don't, but whatever.

@ BHR:

The Tale of Despereaux movie was waaaaay worse than the book, which was really, really quite good.
