Changes to the

Chatterbox: In This Month's Issue

Changes to the

Changes to the Chatterbox

1. First of all, threads 3+ months old should be automatically deleted so that the forums don't get too clogged up. I really don't need to scroll to the bottom of CaC and see that there are thirty pages of threads. After about page six the threads all were last replied to 6+ weeks ago. It will make the Cricket servers run a heckuva lot faster to get rid of threads that were last replied to 3 months ago or longer. If you want to keep a thread alive, you can just post on it and bring it back to the top.

2. Account-type sign in should be added. Right now, these posts can be Google searched and found. I really do not want someone in Russia reading what I wrote about birthday celebrations. We should be able to create accounts on here (one per person), log in, and THEN view posts. It would be an extra step, but it would be greatly increased privacy. We should also have multiple "screen names" (but a limited number) per account.

3. Following the next one, being able to edit your own posts, hide ones you don't want to see, restrict ones to certain users, and so forth.

4. More options for formatting posts and comments, e.g., strikethrough, underline, different fonts and font sizes, more emoticons Smile, and stuff like that.

5. Again, following number 2, be able to see posts we've read and posts we've not read and differentiate between them.

6. Be able to set a title for posts instead of being the first thirty characters of the post plus a ... after it.

If you have any more suggestions, please add them. And please tell me what you think of these ideas. I'm hoping at least a few of them will go through in real life. This will be posted across all forums minus Blab about Books.

Admins, please don't shorten this. I thought for a while about these changes.

1. No way!! I really like looking at old threads! Sometimes, conversations last months, and it's sometimes nice to look at something written a year ago and compare it to a thread now. And sometimes it's just nice to take an old, unused thread, and start using it again! Or, sometimes, there's a thread with a really good idea for something that I want to use, but I forget about it, and I find the thread 3 months later and use the idea! And what about stories and RPs? They often last a long time! And I think a lot of people would hate it if the 1st threads they ever made were deleted.

2. Again, no. Some people may not be allowed onto the CB if they have to make accounts. Besides, why shouldn't people from other countries be able to see our posts? What about Kendra and Kit Kat? And if you just mean that anyone could be reading this, there's a flaw in your theory. Couldn't someone just make an account, log in, read everything and never post? Besides, if you don't want people to see what you write, don't write it, or use a screen name so they don't know it's you - although, even people who know you might not really know, as I'm sure there's lots of Timothies in the world. And how do you know we aren't just anyone? We could all be a bunch of terrorists for all you really know - although I will promise you I'm not, and I seriously doubt anyone else here is. I just don't see any reason why we should make accounts.

3: Not if it means making accounts.

4: That would be nice. However, we already have underline. Just press Control U. And by the way, I'm not sure whether the font thing would work, as the font posts show up in differ between computers.

5: See 3.

6: That would be really useful.

My own suggestions:

1: Some sort of search engine. Posts often seem to disappear, and I'd like to be able to find them without going through every page.

2: No limits of length for the Name, Age, and (in BaB) Book Title Or Genre. There's no limit in Location, so why not those things? In Warriors RPs, in Tribes, names are often long. They don't usually fit in the blank. And does anyone remember Lena's post in BaB titled, 'AGBTANFNP/MSR?', because she couldn't fit in 'Any Good Books That Are Neither Fantasy Nor Pink/Middle School Related?' And sometimes a person just wants to say, '10 - 11 in a week' instead of, 'Almost 11' in the age section. I know I did when I was that age...

3: The BaB glitch. It always says that the person who made the thread made the last reply. I'd like to actually know who made the reply before it's posted, like in the other forums. A few people have actually thought someone was impersonating them because they'd never made threads in BaB, and when they did, it always said that they'd made the last reply when they really hadn't, so they assumed someone had posted as them.

None of these changes are necessary, of course, but I think it would be better if they were made...
