Chatterbox: In This Month's Issue

Admins Question Thread

Admins Question Thread

Pretty self-explanatory, for when you have a question for the Admins.

I was looking through the Ultimate Guide to the CB, and it says people ask the admins questions "frequently related to blue moon ice cream."

What does that mean?

One of the older admins told a story about Blue Moon ice cream a while back and it became something of a meme: http://www.cricketmagkids.com/chatterbox/downtoearth/node/441247. --admin

Typically how long does it take for a new thread to show up? I made one a couple days ago, but I still haven't seen it.

A new thread should post as soon as Admins approve it. It's possible you thread has fallen back a few pages. It's also possible the Admins decided it wasn't appropriate for the CB. If you still can't find it, you can resubmit and we will review again. - Admin

Just wondering, how do I create a thread? I'm a little confused about how to do that. I'm thinking of creating a thread about different books. Laughing

When you're on, say, Blab About Books or something, there should be a purple box in the top left corner with a striped bug on a stack of books reading that says "Click here to talk about a new book". Click on that and it should bring you to a form that's kind of like the comment form.

Hi, I saw this and read the thing about blue moon ice cream. Once my family got ice cream called schtroumpf and we were really confused about all the consonants, until we googled it and it turned out it was smurf in french! (we were in a country that spoke mainly french on vacation). That's also another name for blue moon ice cream. Does anyone know what MCU stands for, or AE, or why the times things are posted are all weird? Does it have to do with time zones or is it when they're approved? I've seen comments from times that haven't happened yet.

MCU stands for Monthly Check-Up, a monthly thread with special dates, jokes, etc., all compiled by Chatterboxers.

AE is Alter Ego (Latin for Other I). On Chatterbox it's a character created to show another side of a person's personality.

Thanks for telling us that Blue Moon ice cream is making its way around the world!

Yeah, I was wondering that thing about time too. Like, woahh, a post... FROM THE FUTURE?!? @admins, do you know why that is? As anony-MOUSE said, time zones or the posting time? Or something else entirely, like a glitch or whatever? I kinda like it, though. It inspires a sense of awe and wonder and ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!! in me! @Flamie (I never responded sorry but yayy I can call you Flamie!!!), maybe the CB could be your time machine! You've gotta find a way to make it work the opposite way though...

I'm not sure why the times are a little off. It could be a combination of all three: time zones, time changes, and time machines... - Admin

@admins, why was Cicada magazine canceled?

I don't know specifics, but I'd guess it was likely a business decision—not enough subscribers to cover the cost of producing it.

Admins, how  come my copy of Cricket hasn't shown up yet this month?

The September issues mailed later than usual. At least one CBer has received theirs, so yours should be coming any day now. Note that the Cricket League contest theme is always available by the first of the month at cricketmagkids.com/contests. So even if your issue is late, you should have plenty of time to complete and submit an entry. In addition, we've move the deadline to the end of September.

Hey admins, do you make magazines in different languages? Just curious.

Cricket Media currently publishes a magazine called "Cricket World of Wonder" in Chinese. plus a Chinese version of CLICK magazine. Cricket Media also hosts language learning classes for children and adults on Cricket eLearning.

does everyone get an honorable mention when they enter cricket contests?

@admin, does everyone get an honorable mention when they enter cricket contests?

No, not by any means. We get many more entries than those deemed prizewinners or honorable mention.  Honorable mentions have made it to the third level of judging. It is truly an honor to be deemed Honorable Mention.

What do you mean, the third level? How does the judging work? (or is it classified...)

First, an editor reads all the entries and separates some into a group we call Betters.

Second, an editor reads all the Betters, selecting a smaller group called Possible Prizewinners.

Third, an editor awards first, second, and third prizes, and the rest of the Possible Prizewinners become Honorable Mentions.

@admins, how many entries are there usually?

It varies from contest to contest. Maybe a few hundred.

@admins, you are going really fast! I've posted things and they've been up as soon as my page reloaded. I was wondering, do you ever worry people will take other people's names or make up multiple CB names? Why isn't there an account or something?

We have had trouble in the past with people submittting comments under other people's names. That's confusing for everyone. We're grateful it hasn't happened for a long time. Chatterboxers are overwhelmingly honest and supportive to each other, and everyone can enjoy all the comments, writings, and artwork. So I don't worry about impersonators. We don't require accounts because we want to make participation as easy as possible while everyone remains anonymous to others.
