Chatterbox: In This Month's Issue

Hello artists, authors, musicians, bibliophiles, and bipedal jack-o-lanterns! This is Avara and AEs, “and” being a liberal term meaning that they will probably spend the whole time arguing. Oh well.

Hey y’all! I’m Cora, she/they. I’m super excited to host the MCU but I wish I was running it instead of Avara.

Hi. I’m Leotea, she/her. And a bit of advice, don’t listen to Cora. She…doesn’t have the best common sense.

And let’s get started! First I would like to thank Ella Starburst, founder of the MCUs, for adding such an important part to the CB! And I would also like to thank all the other MCU hosts for stepping up!
Last Month We Asked You (LMWAY): Halloween is at the end of this month, so what are you planning to dress up as? If you’re not dressing up, what’s your favorite thing about fall?

A shiba inu (Celine)
I looked those up - they’re so cute!

1920s flapper (pangolin)
That’s a cool idea. I would not have thought of that.

My fav thing about fall is the leaves and harvest festivals (Moon Wolf)
Nice.
Harvest festivals are so much fun!
Hm. I prefer the leaves.

Artemis (Hawkstar)
That would be a really fun costume!

A leprechaun (Hex)
Congrats on the soccer goals!

A witch (Tsuki)
They’re a good standard.
Advice Column: School is well on its way for most of us, so how do we balance friends, family, and hobbies with school and homework?

From pangolin: set boundaries! make schoolwork fun (or at least bearable) for yourself -- study with friends, give yourself a small reward each time you complete a worksheet, etc! and don't forget to set aside time to unwind and take care of yourself!
I’m copying and pasting these from the MCU questions thread.
That’s plagiarism!!!!!!
Well, I’m giving the CBers credit…but if it bothers you please let me know.

From Moon Wolf: I do school and hw first before moving on to everything else.
That’s good advice. Easier said than done, though.

From Amethyst: Get homework out of the way as soon as possible, though it is a tEmPtAtIoN to leave it; be careful to leave enough time for school in your schedule, but be free with your time other than that :)
Also good advice

From Tsuki: why, sleep deprivation, of course!
I wish we didn’t have to do it though.
Important Dates (if not labeled, they are from pangolin + AEs)

Thanks to Tsuki, Moon Wolf, pangolin, and pangolin’s AEs (Barnacle, Fir, ~Mirage~, and |Arum|)

Book of the Month (courtesy of Amethyst):

Magic or Not? by Edward Eager

All Laura and James are doing is going to their new house in the country. They never expected to meet a witch's granddaughter on the way there... or someone who claims she's a witch's granddaughter.

From there, Laura and James are sucked into the heart of an uncertain, erratic, strange magic. Laura knows the well in their garden is magical, even if everything seems to point against it and James is certain it isn't. With their new friends Lydia and Kip, the siblings discover unlikely friends, navigate the strange adventures that come their way, and above all, find magic waiting for them wherever they think it won't be. And in the end, they must decide for themselves if it is magic, or some equally powerful force, that's led to their strange, sunlit, wonderful summer. Edward Eager has managed to capture humour, magic, and the essence of friendship into a story with relatable, well-drawn characters, and written an unexpected fantasy.

CB quotes:

“people are always like "fall is so pretty!" and i'm just here loving it because it's eerie and everything's dying” -Blackfooted Bobcat, Down to Earth

“my life has been life-ing.” -Rainbow, Down to Earth

“I need mah Apple Cider donuts.....such goodness.” -Tsuki the Skywolf, Down to Earth

“At last, it seems that it is my time to take over the throne.” -Moon Wolf, Chirp at Cricket
Book quotes (courtesy of Celine):

A pun (without context sorry) cuz I couldn’t resist:

“Still, it was a relief to get away from that macabre sight. Gander considered that gnolls didn't look any better inside than out. He hated their guts.” -Equal Rites, Terry Pratchett

“Tiffany knew what the problem was immediately. She’d seen it before, at birthday parties. Her brother was suffering from tragic sweet deprivation. Yes, he was surrounded by sweets. But the moment he took any sweet at all, said his sugar-addled brain, that meant he was not taking all the rest. And there were so many sweets he’d never be able to eat them all. It was too much to cope with. The only solution was to burst into tears.” -The Wee Free Men, Terry Pratchett
“‘Authenticity is the scariest thing. But you know what? You’re good at it. You should lean into it more. Stop looking for the right answers and just give yours. They’re pretty special.’” -Julieta and the Romeos, Maria E Andreu

Inspirational Quotes (courtesy of Moon Wolf):

"Autumn colors remind us we are all one dancing in the wind." - Lorin Morgan Richards
I like that one. It’s very poetic.

"There is always light. If only we're brave enough to see it. If only we're brave enough to be it." - Amanda Gorman

"Be there for others, but never leave yourself behind." - Dodinsky

"If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else." - Booker T. Washington

"Some people look for a beautiful place. Others make a place beautiful." - Hazrat Inayat Khan
