VTDear Diary,
"Why can't Damsel in Distressing be all about the theory of it" I moaned, showing Lea my test score.
"I know, it would be totally so much better if it was. Hey, at least you still got an A+, I only got A."
I'm a bit pleased with myself to hear that. Then I start giggling.
"Did you see that girl, with the axe?" Lea joins me in laughter.
"I thought Professor Rapunzel would die!"
"I bet she got like, D–"
We can't stop laughing. It was such a bold, hilarious move that neither of us could fully comprehend it. WHy would you even do such a thing? As much as I hate DiD, I wouldn't dacrifice my grade to lash back at it.

Young WriterParticipantAck! So sorry that I deserted you guys! Life, hating Common Core, tests, hating Common Core and me being an idiot.

"Sit." People will tell me to "sit", to "walk", to "run", and I can't do it. It's practically a vampire law that we have to hover. We can't touch the ground. So I can't sit. So I can't do the Damsels in Distressing.Which I really don't care about.
When it comes to be my turn, I just hover on the spot.
"Please sit down," Rapunzel says.
"Can't," I reply, "So shove off."
She raises her eyebrows but doesn't protest. "Start."
SO I scream.
Luckily I was the last person to come in; she falls down petrified on the spot. I shrug and leave the room. "I think that deserves an A," I remark to the unconcious teacher.
Grace~
That girl with the axe was so stupid, like what the heck! This tutoring is essential for our knowledge and protesting will just get you in trouble. It's much easier to just do it, especially because it's so fun."A++," Princess Rapunzel tells me as I leave.
Naturally.

My next class is Magic. I smile, knowing that I'll ace this one. I've been studdying for today's quiz for weeks. We're studying animal transformations. Isis and I walk in, and sit down at the desk we share. I notice that we have a subsitute teacher.
"Hello class," she croaks, "Princess Elsa is away on a conference, so I will be your teacher for today. We'll go right into our quiz."
She goes around, testing one person after another, giving out the usual A's and B's and C's for half froggs and badgers with the head of a tea kettle. Finally, it's my turn.
The substitute comes up to me leaning down so close that I can feel her breath on my face.
"Hello, Lea," she whispers, "i heard you were a straight A+ student. A++, even."
"Y-yes…" I reply, suddenly scared.
"Well, show us what you know. Turn invisible."
I pale. We haven't learned anything about invisibility yet. I try to remmember anything I know, but my mind draws a blank.
"Um, m'am? We haven't learned about that yet."
"Nonsense. Turn. Invisible. Noooow."
I try my best, whispering the first spell that comes to mind. Unfortunately nothing happens.
"Ha!" the lady gasps, stepping back so the whole class can hear. "It is time someone showed you what you're worth. F!"
"W-what?"
"F. Your grade is an F. Sit down."
The class gasps. No one has gotten an F in ages! I sit down, hipnotised. I don't notice anything going on around me. My head is throbbing. F. F. F.
Just then, the bell rings. "You are dissmissed," the substitute says curtly.
I jump up, and run to my dorm. I hear Isis calling after me, but I don't stop. My leg snaggs on something sharp, and I feel blood trickling down it, but I don't care. I throw myself on my bed, tears streaming down my face, my head throbbing. "Lea!" I hear Isis call from the door, but I don't react. All I can think about is the fact: I. Got. An. F.

In Magic, we have a sub. She goes around and has us turn a teakettle into a badger and conjour a frog. My frog looks translucent, but whatever. B is still an OK grade. When she gets to Lea, the perfect student, the Sub doesn't tell her anything about badgers or frogs.
"Well, show us what you know. Turn invisible."
"Um, m'am? We haven't learned about that yet."
"Nonsense. Turn. Invisible. Noooow."
Saraphina and I gasp. Lea looks frightened. She whispers something and squeazes her eyelids together, but….
Nothing happens.
"F!" Screeches the substitute.
We gasp again.
Lea runs out of the room, sobbing.
I catch Saraphina's eye. Our expressions say, 'Uh, oh'.
The teacher whips around to face us.
"Now", she says. "For extra credit, would anyone else like to turn invisible?"
Everybody looks around. Nobody speaks.
And then Atla stands up.
"I will."

Something looks familiar about the subsitute, something I can't quite place. She's strange in the way I'm strange: Her dress's collar covers the whole of her neck and it drapes down so it cascades on the floor. And her eyes…. I know those eyes. Violet. Violet eyes.
She tells Lea to turn invisible and gives her an F. Pays her right; she thinks she's so smart, always getting everything right. But then she asks if anyone else wants to try.
It seems Atla does.
"No," I say, surprising even myself. "I'll turn invisible for you."
Of course, I can't really turn invisible. I haven't learned it, and besides it isn't a vampire thing or anything. But I can turn into a bat.
Turn into a bat.
My body envelopes inside itsef, squeezing, pushing, shaping, forming, and then everything is dark. I shriek; my desk is above me. Good, no one can see me.
"Very well done!" the subsitute exclaims. "You can come visible now."
This time it's stretching, pulling, forming, mutating back into a human where I hover next to my desk.
My hood falls off.
And the subsitute faints.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"This isn't one of my trances," I whisper. My hood's back on now. "This is a shock faint."
The other princesses are gathering at a distance while I hover right next to her. Time to test my suspicion.
I open her mouth.
And there it is. The two fangs.
A vampire.
-
BrookeiraParticipantI go un-invisible. "Well, that explains how rude she was."
I summon a tiny bit of my magic to do a simple teleportation spell and retrieve garlic from the kitchen. I hold some out to everyone.
"Hello," I say, "if you are unaware of my identity, I am Atla Aquaria, a selkie. Grab one of these before she wakes up, and grab any sharp pieces of wood, or we'll all die."
"Hey, hey, hey, wait a minute," I choke. "I can't breathe! Get those things away from me!"My head is spinning and my throat is clogged so nothing can get to my lungs. Spots are appearing in front my eyes.
"If you want to stop her, do so outside," I gasp, "before you KILL me!"
Atla shootsmy classmates a questioning look."She's a half-vampire herself," says Grace, the princess I hate most of all. "So garlic affects her."
-
Daphne H.Participant♥Saraphina♥
Well this has been an EXTREMELY interesting day so far.
And not in a good way.
"Hello," Atla announces importantly while she passes out heads of garlic around the room. "If you are unaware of my identity"–who would be?–"I am Atla Aquaria, a selkie. Grab one of these before she wakes up, and grab any sharp pieces of wood, or we'll all die."
"Well, that's depressing news," Lilia remarks. She accepts two chunks of garlic and hands one over to me, then looks around. "Did everyone get one?"
Atla's eyes harden. "Excuse me," she says, "but I can take it from here." She eyes Lilia up and down. "I guess you could say I'm a little uh, more… experienced, with the situation."
Lilia's eyebrows furrow. I place my hand on her shoulder. "Sounds good, Atla," I say kindly with a warm smile. "Thanks for keeping everybody safe."
Atla doesn't smile back, but she doesn't frown either. I take that as a good sign and steer Lilia away from her. "Let's just focus on protecting ourselves," I suggest. "I know you're just trying to help, but,"
"Whatever," Lilia says. She breaks off a jagged piece of wood from the teachers desk and walks away. I do the same, still wondering why she's acting so weird. But I don't have time to obsess over this, we're in an emergency situation here. And I kinda wanna survive.
This school is turning out more interesting than I thought. Still, I'm not sure if you can call it a school…
We all stood around our fallen substitute. Alta started passing out bulbs of garlic. "Wait!" I called. Halfway through the rest of the students, she stopped. "Garlic and sharp sticks? That's really not the best idea."
She rolled her eyes. "Well then, what's a better idea, hmm?"
I ignored her sarcasm. "It's well known that though garlic is a good idea to get rid of vampires with, it's not the best." I looked at the group around me. "How many of you are wearing crosses?" About a third reached to their neck and pulled up chains of delicate silver and gold. "Good," I nodded "You're protected. Vampires hate any religious artifacts. The rest of you…" I trailed off. WHat should we do? Then, it struck me.
I pointed to one of the girls wearing a cross. "Go to Professor Anna's sewing room and get all the ribbon you can find."
"But, but…" She wimpered.
"Go!" I barked "You're perfectly safe".
She ran off.
I turned to the rest of the girls wearing crosses. "You all, form a circle around…that thing." I waved my hand toward the vampire. "That way, the rest of us will be okay till she gets back with ribbon"
They did, but not without asking "What's the ribbon for? To tie her up?"
I grinned. "No. Vampires will be compelled to unknot anything that's been knotted. We're going to turn all of Professor Anna's precious ribbon into a pile of knots."
We were all standing around when I realized we were missing someone, someone other than the girl I had sent off.
"Where's Lea?!?" I cried.
Over The RainbowParticipantSorry, I haven't been on in a while!
Lilia~
"Where's Lea?" cries Isis. Everybody looks around in fright. And then we hear a tapping from the window.
I suck in my breath. I'm not wearing any religious item. What if it's another vampire?
But hey, I'm Lilia von Panoberg. I go for everything. So I walk to the window and lift the purple velvet drape.
Lea's face appears.
She says something, but her voice is muffled through the glass.
"Oh." I push the window open. "What did you say?"
"I found an escape route for you guys", says Lea.
-
Booksy OlwyParticipantLea-
I spend some more time in my dorm, crying. But then suddenly, I feel something strange. I feel it distinctly… Isis is in trouble. F or no F. I can deal with grades later. I need to help my friend. I run outside and back to the classroom. Before I see anything, I get it. That sub… She was a vampire. I run outside, looking for an escape route from the class.
Alta and I haul Lea though the window. As soon as she's fully in, I hug her. "Hey!" she cries "I'm fine!"
"I was worried-" I start, then she buts in "About my safety? Aww, Isis, you needn't have."
I laugh and say, "Well, yes I was worried about your safety, but what about your grade? You seemed so distressed!"
Lea laughs. "I really don't think this class counts for much anymore. Let's talk later. Right now, we need to get out of here!"
She flings open the curtain. Dangling from the window I see a long rope. Well, at least it ought to be long: this classroom is in the highest tower of the school.
"Down that?" Lilia sqeauks. I'm feeling the same way. Lea's expecting us to shimmy down a rope? Oh dear.
-
KatydidParticipantI'm back! Can someone write a summary?
-
Over The RainbowParticipantUmm, Lilia is supposed to be the really daring one. I think she'd be really excited to escape down a 200-foot-high tower. But that's OK, I don't think you realized!
KatydidParticipantFelicity~
I enter campus, pulling my bag behind me. I just got back from my Grampa's funeral. I sigh and enter the building. I'd have to go straight to…magic? So i do. RIght after putting my stuff in my dorm i head to magic. I gasp at what i see. There is an older lady, she is untieing knots and sobbing. I stare at her, gaping. She looks at me with her red puffy eyes and i rush forward, stopping her. "Are you okay miss?"
"Yes…" She mutters. "I am the substitute for Elsa and those…not good enough to be called princesses caused such a mess!!"
I gasp. What? They would never do that? The substitute must have done something to anger them. Just then the smell of garlic hit my nose. I look toward the door and notice small peices of garlic. Vampire. I drop the garlic and step back, the vampire is grinning evily. "No…" I turn to run, but its too late. I feel a sharp pain in my side and let out a cry of agony. Shoot….what do i do??? I take another step but it hurts so much i fall to my knees. I put my hand to my side and find blood. Oh no… I put the hand that isn't on my wound on the ground. I hear the vampire cackling. And i do what comes to me. I take out the dagger and hit he with it. It richoches off of her, her only reaction a wince. How could I be so stupid? What do i do? The vampire is leaving…I can't stop her.. Then everything goes dark.
~~~~
Now you guys get to come save me!!! and stuff…
-
BrookeiraParticipantI am about to jump out the window when I hear talking, a whimper, and a cackle.
Oh, fae, no. It's Felicity.
I leap back into the room as my comrades yell at me to come down, and slam the vampire with light-imbued water. It is close to holy water and hurts vampires.
I lug Felicity's arm onto my shoulder. The vampire woman hisses and her eyes turn black.
"Welcome to your grave, water wielder," the vampire says, growing to be twenty feet tall. Oh no. Even I'm not trained for this…
I lunge for the window but she hurls a warddrobe in front of it and locks the door. I've entered a dangerous game of cat and mouse with the Vampire Queen herself.
I hear pounding on the wardrobe, and it wakes Felicity. "Wha…" she says, looking around. "It's okay. i'm better at magic than her," I lie.
I shove Felicity into the small gap between the wardrobe and the window and continue to fight.
A whip of darkness hit me in the chest. i moaned and stumbled back. A dark laugh, deep and primeval, reverberated through the room. I roared and tried to retaliate, but she grabbed me in a dark hold and through me twenty feet into a brick wall.
"Atla!" Felicity gasped, wriggling out from under the wardrobe. "Felicity! No!" I yell.
The Vampie Queen throws a dark flare at her and I do a spell that I pray won't kill me.
"ENOUGH"
My voice is deep and rich, much older sounding than I. Everything goes almost sepia in tone as the light from the room transfers into my eyes. The dark flare slows and freezes, and the Queen and Felicity move in slow motion before stopping.
I rush to Felicity and touch her. She moves in real time again, and flinches seeing my completely white eyes. "Go," I say, moving the bookcase with my mind.
I levitate out of the tower myself, other princesses gasping at my bizarre power display.
My power falters and I black out, pitching to the ground…
-
BrookeiraParticipantOops, toward the end I said bookcase instead of wardrobe. Teehee

"No!" l cry, dashing to Atla. She is crumpled at the base of the tower. "Atla, wake up!"
She is lying on her back. Her skin is white and cold. l feel her pulse. Faint and weak. Not good.
My mind goes blank. What are we going to do? Suddenly, l hear a horrible laughing from the tower. l look up to see a bolt of blackness shoot towards me. l raise my axe to defend myself, but l am to late.

VTDear Diary,
This has been an awful, awful day.
We all huddled around Alta. Valeria was crying over her.
There came a terrible, violent laugh from the tower. We all turned, Valeria and Lilia raising their weapons to defend themselves. But they were not enough.
A sweeping shadow descended upon us, knocking first Valeria, then three other girls to they ground. They fell like dominos: Silent, and with no emotion.
All I could think was, we need to leave this place. Now.
-
OtRParticipantLilia~
Valeria hits the ground next to Atla. Oh, no! Seraphina steps forward.
"I took a lesson in healing once…" We all lean forward. "…but I forgot most of the stuff they taught."
We all groan. Suddenly, we freeeze. We see a giant bat come out of the tower, plunging toward us, and we can't move.
-
KatydidParticipantFelicity~
I clutch my side and hurry to the classroom with all sorts of ribbons. I grab a long one and tie it in one knot, two, three, four, five… After about 50 knots the whole ribbon is kinda like a funky ball. I stick it in my pocket then flip over a desk. I kick the leg and it breaks off, getting me a wooden stake. I grab a pair of scissors, break them in half, and start sharpening the stake. I exit the classroom while still sharpening and hurry back to the other classroom. Drops of blood mark my path, but I ignore them. I enter the classroom and while looking out the window, pull off my cross necklace. I have one large strand of ribbon left in the knot and tie it to the half of scissors to wiegh it down. Then I lean out the window and shout "Hey! Vampire!!" She turns my way. "Untie this!!!" I throw it and she swoops to where it lands. There she changes into human form and starts to untie. I Grab the rope and slide down, severly burning my hands. I run to her and hit her with the stake, knocking her out. I hold the stake above her chest, trembling with exhaustion and pain.
"Get it over with!!" Atla cries.
I lift the stake up in preparation to kill her. Kill her? But..I've never killed. There is always a need…right? I am just about to bring it down when all my pain suddenly disappears, because of a greater pain in my abdomen. The vampire kicked me in the stomach and I'm flying back. I let out a cry as I hit something….someone? Then…darkness.
