MoonOk, here we go…
Name:
Jared Quint
Age:
13 (Barely)
Where they're from:
Chaotic Cardinal Valley
Species (if chaotic):
Shifter (A bit like a shapeshifter, but not. I'll explain in the backstory)
Rank/Occupation:
Is outcast a rank? Or occupation? Let's say yes.
Appearance:
Normally (I WILL explain. Promise!) shoulder-length black hair, usually tied back into a ponytail with a red silk ribbon he stole, loose tan shirt and dark pants, and tall boots. Bright green eyes, and a bit of a smirk.
Personality:
Jared is… Interesting. Very pessimistic (but usually very humorously pessimistic) and prickly around people, he immediately opens up around his little sis Ariana, and is really quite kind. He's has bad experiences though, so he's not very trusting.
Backstory:
Ok, explaining. So, a shifter is really a half-blood, part shapeshifter, part human. In this case, Jared's father (his identity is secret, so let's call him Joe) was a shapeshifter and his mother (let's call her Lily) was human. So, one day Joe and Lily met. They dated and *cough cough* y'know. Anyhoo, it ended up with a pregnant, unmarried Lily. Joe was killed because the people in the town found out he was a shapeshifter (they aren't exactly popular), and then we still have a pregnant, unmarried Lily. Then, when people found out that Joe was the father of Lily's unborn child, they chased her out of town, but they didn't kill her since she was still pregnant. After a while, a very, very pregnant Lily stumbled into another town, about ten miles away. She collapsed at the first door she came to, and immediately went into labor. The people who lived in the house found her, and got her to the midwife. A few hours later, tada! Little baby Jared. Anyway, the people who found Lily had a son, who was very interested in her (but in a nice way. I promise.) After a while, Lily and the son (let's call him Mike) got married. Lily told Mike all about Joe, and what that ment for Jared, but he didn't care. He loved them both. Then Lily and Mike *cough cough* y'know, and along come Ariana! But, let's get back to Jared, shall we?
So, because of his father, Jared can shift, just not indefinitely. His natural form is a human, but he can change his appearance (think Tonks.) He can also change form to say… A wolf, but it tires him.
Anyway, when Jared was 9 and Ariana was 5, a massive anti-shapeshifter movement hit all of Cardinal Valley. Of course, Jared isn't really a shapeshifter, but he was kicked out anyway. Mike and Lily were imprisoned for 'Harboring a shapeshifter,' and Ariana ran away to be with Jared. Nowadays, they wander around the Valley, trying to stay out of sight, but Jared usually is seen stealing some sort of supplies and they have to move.
Other:
Um… I think that's it. Wow. That is really long.

MoonOops, I forgot to say anything about Ariana. She looks just like her mother, with long blonde hair and blue eyes. She wears one of Jared's old pairs of pants and shirts, and both of them go barefoot. She doesn't know anything about Jared's father, or his abilities.

Darth KittyParticipantOut of townHi! I'd love to join, but I may be delayed with the start of the RP, because I am currently on vacation.

GallifrayWow! This sounds cool1 I'd love to play, if that's okay.
Name: Skye B.
Age: 14
Where they're from: Sleepy Cardinal Valley
Species: Human
Rank/Occupation: High School student
Appearence: Long, wavy black hair with a white streak down the left side. She was born with it and it has served her very well going as Anna for halloween. She always braids the white streak. Tan skin, gray eyes, lots of freckles. She's on the skinnier side, but not stick-thin.
Personality: Insecure, very mistrusting of people. She jumps at sudden noises when she's stressed. she doesn't have meny friends- a few, but none that are, like, BFFs since they were born or anything. She usually just stays out of problems and drama, on the sidelines waiting for people to calm down.
Backstory: She was adopted from China when she was six. Her parents left her on the doorstep of the orphanage. That's why she doesn't usually trust people, because she's worried that they'll leave her too.
Other: Uuuuuh. . . nothing else.

EverywhereOkay, THAT IS IT! This RP has started– no one else may join. If you posted after TARDISrider but before me, I apologize, you can't join.

There's a woods near my house I like going into.
It's almost fairy-tale perfect. The trees stretch upward, oaks and beeches, and a blanket of leaves covers the floor. There are birds everywhere; the sun shines between cracks in the branches. I go there almost every day, mostly to birdwatch. I have a pair of binoculars I use, even a journal, a reference book, and a favorite place to sit.
Today, though, there are no birds. The sun is shining with an intense heat, especially to me, wearing a (very) light sweater, long pants, and boots (poison ivy/oak protection). I'm soon sweating like mad and decide to call it a day.
I don't understand, though. Why are there no birds? There are absolutely no calls. No chica dee-dee-dee-dees, no drills from a woodpecker. They're gone.
I tell my parents; they laugh and say maybe the birds think it's too hot to be out. I didn't think they would take it seriously– I probably wouldn't, if someone told me all the birds had vanished. Instead, I decide to run.
Running is my second favorite thing behind birdwatching. The school even decided to make a track team, probably because I've badgered so many of my friends to go on runs with me and they noticed, and I'll be doing that next year. Even though they can't really afford to make an official track to run on, and we definitely won't be competing, I think it will be fun.
My family lives on the edge of town, and I run towards the center. Barely anyone is outside, and I don't blame them. I start to wish for a bottle of water.
I decide to take a break in front of the library. Then I notice the lights are on. Someone's moving about inside, probably about my age, with dark frizzy hair. Maybe an assistant librarian? That can mean only one thing: the library's reopening. Right now, all I can think is air conditioning. I shove open one of the glass doors and walk inside.

GallifraySkye~
I flip my black hair over my shoulder, running my white braid through my fingers. My grey eyes flicker over the page of my book. I wish that the characters would stop acting stupid and avoid the creepy house. Why are they going towards the house? They went into the house. Ugh, there goes Jacob.
I snap the book shut and glance up. It seems unusally quit today, even for Cardinal Valley. My parents are inside the house watching a football game. I decided to come out onto the porch swing and read. I shade my eyes and squint at the library. I can see it pretty well from our house. If it had been open, I would probably walk there all the time and spend my days reading. But no such luck. Somebody (too far away to see who) sprints up to the door. She leans against the wall, glances through a window and walks inside.
I stare. But. . . that thing's been closed for years! Decades, maybe. If it had reopened, surely there would've been something in our small town newspaper that I flick through every morning. Curious, Ipoke my head inside, tell my parents I'm going for a walk, and start off.
I push open the glass door. Deliciously cool AC washes over me, clearing any thought of summer days. The books neatly line the shelves as though they'd never been rotting for years in the same spot. I turn and see Amelis Williams gulping down water from the drinking fountain. She turns to see me and waves, smiling. I wave back hesitantly before turning and hurrying down one aisle.
Interesting titles, nothing I've really heard of. I stop and stare at a ruby red hardcover book with swoopy gold lettering adorning the spine: Cardinal Valley.
I frown. Is this a history of our town? Past mayors or something? Chronology? Our town doesn't seem very book-worthy, much less swoopy-gold-lettering worthy. I pull the book off the shelf and am about to open it when the door slams open again.

GaredParticipantKlyn-Ezra was dead. The falling battlement made sure of that. Wynnasill and her men had charged at the castle. They had hurled rocks and explosives from trebuchets, and the walls had crumpled as if they were cards. Avin-Avina was gone, and Selena had hurt her leg.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The woods were dark, and Elysia was angry. How dare those inquisitor mutts act like that. Her hands burned with a white and blue flame.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Captain Wynnesaill stabbed the WarBlade of the vampyre warrior into the table. The king backed up. Wynnesaill threw the front of Alexander’s chestplate on top of the ephemeral blade.
“You,” She growled. “King. I have lost good men. Good men will never see their families again. But it is done. I have killed the vampyres.”

I cradle my baby sister Clara in my arms, singing softly to her. Next to Petey, she is my favorite sibling, and I'm glad to be taking care of her. I think I'm her favorite sibling. At first, she stares up at me, but then her chocolatey brown eyes close and she's asleep. I gently set her down in her crib and run out to find Petey.
I search the library first, and he's there, reading a book in a corner like always. I sigh. I wish he played with me more. Why did he always have to be so… alone? I creep up to him, and shake his shoulder, "Petey! Can you play with me?"
He doesn't look up from his book, but shakes his head, "Go away, Anna," He grumbles.
"Please? Just for a bit?" I whine, making puppy dog eyes. It's really boring today, and it's too hot to play outside.
"Go away!"
I sigh, and walk out of the library, back to Clara's room, where she's sleeping. The castle feels so sleepy today, and quiet. Even the mischeivous twins, Jack and Jessie, aren't playing their usual pranks on us. I wish they would. That would be more fun than just watching Clara sleep.
~~~
Can later in the story Petey start to open up to Anna a bit more?
Darth KittyParticipantOut of TownAvery~
As suddenly as I have something to do this summer, I feel even lonlier than ever. Although I am not bored as an assistant librarian, I wish that I didn't have to be shelving musty books in a musty building that hasn't been opened in decades. There aren't even any other librarians except for the old lady at the desk. She was the one who thought that people might actually want to come to this library. I'm an assistant librarian because I think I'd be the only one. My mistake for the time being, these books are so dusty!
Just as soon as I've shelved the last book on one shelf, I see the girl with the white braid come in. I smile and wave, but she doesn't see me, and goes off to find a book in the fiction section. As per usual, nobody really notices me, and I'm ok with that. Usually I'm with Shaden and Max, the brothers who taught me how to play basketball.
As I'm starting another shelf, the girl with the white braid stands up to find another book. At the same time, another girl walks in, sweaty from running. I hear that the school in town is going to start up a Track & Field because of her and her friend's intent on running. I wish that there were more people who were interested in basketball, so that I could have the same privlilege that she has. Unfortunatley, the only people I know who have any interest in basketball at all are Shaden, Max, and I. Shaden and Max don't even go to school, they're homeschooled.
I am thrust from my thoughts when my mind tells me there is something to observe. Yes, I am like Harreit the Spy in ways. When bordem gets the best of me, and Shaden and Max are doing something else, I have taken to observe things. I know most people in this town, but next to none of them know me. I'm ok with that.
All I observe is that these two (the runner and the girl with the white braid) are friends, and that the girl with the white braid had dropped the book she was holding. When they left, I go to pick it up and put it back on the shelf. The cover is red, with gold printing titled 'Cardinal Valley'. Maybe a history of the town? I think to myself. I decide to read it later, and put it back on the shelf. Back to the lonely booksheves. I think again for the seventh time today.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, that was a bit slow-going, but I hope once people have started leaving into the book, I can get more ideas.
Cameron says mnye. Do you want mayonaise, Cameron?

InktailParticipantSallie~
I walked into the library around closing time, inhaling deeply. Unlike most people, I loved the smell of musty old books. When I was younger, I called it 'the scent of adventure.' Reflecting on that, I realized how true that was. Exhaling, I jogged to the fiction area. There was a girl, scowling in the aisle. I didn't expect her, and bumped into her.
"Oh! Sorry!" I whispered. I held out my hand and she stood up.
”It's fine." She said, slightly glumly. I nodded and watched her exit the aisle. There were lots of pretty books. I loved red, and tried to read all books with red covers. Odd, I know but it's me. But there was one on the shelf I didn't recognize. I took it off the shelf.
Cardinal Valley.
That seemed like a non-fiction book, so I brought it to the desk. The kindly old librarian looked scared when she saw the book, and hurriedly took it from me. I stared at my hand, stunned, but walked off. I'd be back the next day.
